Third POV
Lucien and Elijah reached the dining room only to find out that their parents had gone out for the night and will be home late. Both were not surprised at all as they were used to such disappearances and sat down. "At the least, they can stop bothering me about Kain joining the company in a high position". Saying that, Elijah slumped on the chair with a sigh of relief. Lucien frowned upon hearing what Elijah said. "Do they often pester you about it, Eli ? " Lucien asked as the food was being served.
" You could say that it does happen most of the time, however, I don't plan on letting Kain in as he does not have the acumen required". Eli stabbed his fork into the food harshly to show his frustration at the constant pestering. Lucien could tell how much it bothered Elijah.
They ate their meal in a comfortable silence that Lucien missed. "I heard from Denver that you wished to pursue a new career path ." Lucien was stunned that Elijah was intrested in what he was up to. In his previous life, they had a civil relationship as he thought that Elijah had hated him but now he could tell that it was not the case. Seeing Lucien's reaction, Elijah couldn't help but say "Don't tell me, you thought that I hate you and not interested in what you do ?".
Lucien looked away in shame as soon as Elijah finished that statement.
Elijah was stunned. He couldn't help but feel sad that his precious brother felt that way. "Why did you think I hated you Lucien ?" Lucien flinched at the question. He fiddled with his fork before putting it down and looked at Elijah in the eyes and answered.
"I thought you hated me because I was a nuisance and never did anything worthwhile particularly when it came to the store. It didn't help that we didn't spend a lot of time together due to our parents who preferred you over me. It also didn't help that Kain kept saying that you never liked me but tolerated me" .
Silence reigned. Lucien was scared of Elijah's reaction to what he said. He kept his head down afraid of looking at him. "It seems that they don't wish to live at all". Lucien's head whipped up in shock at the murderous tone Elijah was speaking in. He could tell that Elijah was pissed.
Elijah got up and walked over to Lucien. He pulled him out of the chair and embraced him tightly. Lucien was stunned. Elijah was a never touchy feely guy but he felt an indescribable warmth flood his body from this show of affection.
"I always and forever will love you and cherish you no matter what happens as you are most precious person. Ignore what our parents said about your usefulness. I will never judge you on those basis at all for as long as I live. Kain is wrong. I love you. You are more important to me more than anyone else in this world ". He emphasized his words by hugging him tightly once again.
Lucien buried his face into Elijah's shoulder and cried. Elijah held him as he cried out his heart. His mind went over what was said.
Strange things were amok in the dark. He would protect Lucien with every breath and inch of his life and would find out what the hell is going on.
