"And both of my Grammys taught me how to cook, plus I watch the Food Network for ideas and recipes and also I read the packages of food in the store too" I was impressed by her. I helped her set the table up and Tey took Grammy her plate and drink, I told him to ask her if she can go with me to get the rental van. We sat down to eat and her brothers looked like they were going to ask me a billion questions, but quickly closed their mouths when Keya gave them a look that said 'Don't you fuckin start today' and they didn't! Be it help with homework, a bath, a meal or an ass whupping, she handles it no problem! And I allow her full reign too." "I see now why they listen to her so well, she's like their mom almost." "She can cook real good too, Grammy did you teach her that?" "Oh Keya can cook her ass off, I taught her a bunch and so did her other grandma. But she would watch the Food Network with me, and she's so smart that after seeing it once, she'll know how to cook it! Ain't that something?!" she said chuckling. "Yeah, she is quite amazing, I love her and I know she will make a great wife!" She smiled, "Yes she will! But yeah she's had to grow up pretty fast, because my daughter ain't really take care of them. Keya is the reason they are still alive, she's told me about some of the situations that they were in while living with Katrina." she looked really sad.
"I don't wanna talk about it anymore, it makes me sad, knowing the shit, my daughter put her children through." I needed to change the subject fast... "What type of things do she like, Grammy?" "Keya is a very simple, down to earth, old fashioned country girl. She loves gardening, drawing, cooking, pets, things like that. She wish that she can live like our ancestors did, in log cabins and raising animals and growing her own food, can you believe that!" she said chuckling. Really?! Keya wanted to live that way? "I grew up like that in Puerto Rico Grammy, and real talk I miss that life, I wish I could go back to when things were simpler. I know how to hunt and fish and butcher, the whole nine yards! And to know that she wants to live like that too, I know that she's mine and that we met for a reason!" I was elated to hear that she wants to live like me, that just gives me more clarification that she was made for me... Thank You Heavenly Father!
We get the van and I drive it, we also stop at the store to get the remainder of the items we need for today. When we get to Grammys place, four of her kids were there with their children. And when they heard that we were going to North Avenue Beach, they wanted to come along too. The more the merrier, I always say. So we packed everything into the vehicles and went to the beach! North Ave beach... its been awhile, the sun is out, a few clouds in the blue sky and a light wind blowing.. just beautiful! We found a great spot near the water and started unloading our things. I set the grill up, so it could be ready to use as soon as possible. Then we set up our screened canopy and put the tables and chairs under it, so the food will be protected from the bugs and birds. I also put the cooler in and filled it with ice, water bottles, CapriSun juices and a few Heinekens for me plus some wine coolers for Grammy and Keya.
Three of Keya's aunts and one of her uncles came with us to the beach with their children. Keya came over and introduced us, "Manny, this is my favorite aunt Shenita, and her 4 kids, Don, Monte, Kisha & Mya" I greeted them. "Auntie this is my boyfriend, Manny!" she said happily. Her aunt looked suspicious and shocked, "What the hell you talking about, Keya? YOUR BOYFRIEND?" "Grammy already knows and approved it, you can go ask her if you don't believe me." she explained to her. And her aunt left to confirm what she told her. I didn't care what anyone said about me, but Keya is mine and No One is going to tell me any different! "My uncle Eddie and his 2 daughters, Tia & Quita. My aunts Katrice, Patrice and her son, James!" we all greeted each other and they were asking where we met, and how old I was, etc. Keya answered them and they were suspicious but went about setting up their towels and blankets and umbrellas.
I finished setting up our gear and go rent the cabana nearest to us. So Grammy and Keya and her siblings could have, a nice place to get out of the sun without being down in the hot sand. Keya helped me bring the food and supplies into the canopy and I started grilling the ribs and chicken first because it would take the longest. We also have some rib eye steaks, steak burgers, Vienna beef hot dog and polishes, she didn't really eat pork, I wondered why.. and some corn on the cob. I told her to pass me a 'cold one', and she gave me a beer, then took a wine cooler for herself, we drank them, then... "I'm finna go swimming, I know my brothers are ready to go in too.." she said walking away from me. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her into my arms and planted a big, long kiss on her, knowing that her family was watching, to let them and everyone else around us know that she is MINE! He said, "I'll come get in the water with y'all after some of this food is done okay, Mami?" "Okay, Papi!" he looked a little surprised at me. I turned to leave and he smacked me on my butt! And I was holding my butt, while walking backwards away from him, he laughed and looked like he wanted to come get me, but he didn't, thank God!
I turned to see my brothers and sister making sand castles with the toys, Manny had bought them. I was about to ask them if they were ready to go get in the water when..'SCOOP'.. "Come here you!" Manny had scooped me up and was tickling my stomach with his mouth! "MAN..HAHAHAHA..MANNY! HAHAHA!" I was tryna stop him but he was so strong and he had my stomach smashed up against his mouth. Blowing raspberries into my tummy! "Pfffft, pffft...." My legs were flailing all everywhere and I was pushing his face with my hands, but it wasn't working, and I was laughing so hard, I started cry-laughing! He finally stopped when I told him, "Ok! Ok I gotta pee, Manny! Hahaha please, I don't wanna pee on you!" He put me down and I caught my breath and when I did, I started hitting him in his chest.. "What are you crazy, hahaha, you know how ticklish I am, next time it's your turn!" I warned, laughing. He went back to grilling.
But I really did have to pee though, I asked if any of them had to go also, Phat, Qwan and Tez did. So we went to the bathroom, it was a long line as usual because the beach was packed full of people. That's why we put on our swimsuits before we arrived, that way we can just go get in the water right away. We used the bathroom and upon coming out we ran into... "MOM?!" Phat & Tez called out and ran to her. Ugh! Why's she here?! I thought irritated. She could ruin such a pretty day just by being around. Qwan was still holding my hand, he hadn't trusted her since his 'accident' that got us taken away from her in the first place. "Hey Keya, Qwan come give me a hug!" Qwan squeezed my hand tighter and shook his head. I looked down at him smiling, "Its ok you don't have to" I told him. Then I looked at her and said, "We good, no thanks!" I looked at her up and down, frowning, I rolled my eyes, ugh, I can't stand her!
"Oh okay,... where y'all set up at?" she asked. "Why?" I asked rudely. "So I can hang out with ya'll" she said. OH HELL NAW! THAT AIN'T FINNA HAPPEN! "You are NOT invited, Trina! We don't want or need you here, just like you don't want or need us in your life!" I shouted at her, ughh the NERVE of this Bitch!! "I want to see her Keya", Phat said looking sad and Tez nodded. I sighed, they still wanted to be around their mom, smh.. "Fine, let's go." I picked Qwan up and went back to the cabana. Everyone was surprised when we returned,.. Grammy.. "Katrina where the hell you been?!" Trell.. "Momma I missed you!" he gave her a hug, Tey.. "Hey mommy, where you been?" Shenita.. "Bitch, don't you owe me some money? Come here let me holla at you right quick!" my cousins.. "Auntie, auntie!" Eddie.. "Well, look what the cat dragged in.." laughing. Katrice and Patrice were looking at her and whispering.
I walked over to Manny and said "That's my mom, watch her she's a fuckin thief! And will take anything that she can sell to get drugs", I was pissed she was here! I wanted to go get in the water but, with her here I was a really reluctant. I knew that if we went in the water and no one was watching her, that she would start rummaging through our stuff. But if she was in the water with them, she wouldn't really watch them and they might drown or get lost. I hated this... I'm sad, and today was supposed to be fun. Manny came and said, "What's wrong, sweetie? If you don't want her here, I'll make her leave." Really!? Would he? But as much as I would love that.. "It's okay, Manny, they want to see her" Qwan was still holding onto me pretty tight, I rubbed his back and kissed his head, "Well most of them do, but not Qwan, right Qwan?" he shook his little head. Manny said, "Go have some fun baby, that's why we're here, okay? Don't let her ruin this and I'll watch our stuff okay?" I was still unsure but I trusted Manny and before I decided to go to the water Trina came over and said, "And who is this fine ass man here, Keya?!" she asked looking lusty at Manny. I frowned at her, "Trina this is Manny my.."
"I'm Keya's man! Nice to meet you, Trina" I spoke with much authority. I can see how upset My Keya was with her mom being here so I gave her a hug and kiss she blushed and smiled, looking more confident. Trina was shocked and said, "Ohhh you have a man now huh, you think you grown now!?" She was obviously trying to cause problems and I was not up for it, but before I could say anything Grammy shouted "Katrina, leave her alone! I said that they can be together and my decision is final! They ain't with you anymore, they're with me and what I say GOES!" That shut her mom up quick, maybe because she knows that Grammy will slap the shit out of her if she kept on. I can hold it down here and watch her, but I wanted My Keya to enjoy herself so, "Mami go get in the water and have some fun okay, I'll handle this over here" she looked a little unsure but then they went and got in the water. This'll give me some time to observe her mom without her siblings in the way. I kept a close eye on her the entire time she was here...
I asked them if they were ready to get in the water. Qwan nodded his head, looking excited and they all said, "Yeah!" we got some toys & pool noodles and went to the water. Manny had let me choose lots of toys to bring with us, super soakers, which are really big water guns that held up to a gallon of water at a time, I brought one for each of us so they wouldn't be fighting over them. Pool noodles, inflatable tubes and rafts, a beach ball, kites and much more. I told them, "We are gonna connect our noodles together in a circle and stay inside of the circle okay? If you have to leave the circle for something, please just let me know first ok? If you leave without telling me you will get a whupping! Okay?" they all nodded. "Lots make our circle nice and big okay, and remember only play with us that are inside the circle. Don't be squirting water on people outside of the circle ok, I'm serious, and don't let anyone in here that you don't know okay? Let's have some fun!!" Uncle Eddie and aunt Shenita came over to be inside the circle with us. We made the circle pretty big, it was big enough so that we didn't bump into one another and no one came inside it that we didn't know, or left without letting someone else know first, it was sooo much fun despite my mom being there. I seen her over near Grammy talking or arguing, I'm not sure, as long as she didn't mess with my shit, I'm good.
Qwan, 4, Tez, 5 and Tey, 7 were really small so I kept a close eye on them the whole time we were in the water. I had put inflatables on their arms and chest, Phat had her some barbies playing in the water, I played with them with her. Trell had some X-men and WCW action figures and I played with him and his toys too. Then my little cousins came over and we played with the super soakers together. My aunts came and was talking to me about Manny. Shenita asks "Keya how long have you been with him and how old is he?" I seen this coming, I took a deep breath, "We met at the Puerto Rican parade on Saturday and he asked me to be his girlfriend, he's 23" I replied. "Girl he older than me, I don't like this Keya" Shenita said, shaking her head. I was concerned about what she didn't like.. "What don't you like about him auntie?" "He is too old for you and he may try to take advantage of you neicey poo, you know that I love you and I'm always looking out for you." she said, palming my cheek, I know she really cared about me, but she didn't know Manny. She didn't see how much of a real gentleman he was to me and he really loves me, he tells me and shows me all the time.
My aunt Katrice wanted to know if he had a brother, "Yeah, 2 of them, but they are married with kids already" I said. "Damn, what about an uncle or something?" Patrice asked, "Yup, married too, sorry ya'll." They both were upset about that but it was the truth only Manny and his cousins were not married I told them. "Fuck! Gurl he is fine as hell, how you end up with him?!" Katrice asked. And I told them how we met at his uncle's restaurant and then again at the parade and I told them about his nice house, his car and how he took me shopping and gave me money, "Have y'all juiced yet?!" Shenita asks me. I had heard this term before, it's like sex but not sex, kinda what we did last night.. "Yeah, we did last night.." I was a bit embarrassed thinking about it. "OMG! KEYA FOR REAL!" my aunts were so surprised by this but they did the same thing at my age. Shenita had her first son, Don at 13! "What's wrong, y'all did the same thing when you were my age!" I said. "Yeah but with someone our age not with a grown ass man, gurl!" Shenita said. "And what's the difference?" I asked a bit worried, "He reminds me of a young sugar daddy!" Katrice says. "Well for one he's enormous, I can see his big ass dick! Gurl he gonna break you in half with that thing!" Patrice said. Goodness gracious, I wish she hadn't said that, I'm already terrified of having sex with him and that made it worse! I know its not gonna happen for awhile but still... Trina came over then, and said, "So this 'Manny' guy wants to marry you huh?" she was looking skeptical at me. "Yes he does! What's wrong with that? I've always wanted to get married!" I told her confidently, it's true! I've always wanted to be the opposite of her, a mom there for her kids, I don't smoke or do drugs, I don't drink to get drunk and I don't sleep with a man just because I can! "Well momma told me that he is rich and he has a home and car already, all he wants now is you, is that true?" she asked curiously. "Yes, we're gonna get married when I'm 17!" I said even more confidently. "Well, I hope y'all the best, Keya and thank you for taking care of my kids for me, when I was too fucked up to do it myself, okay, I mean that from the bottom of my heart." she looked grateful, I appreciated the gesture, but still kept up my guard. She was a sneaky snake and I have trusted her so many times in the past and she has just done me wrong. I don't trust her anymore.
"You're welcome, Trina. Are you here with anyone?" I knew she always had a man she was stuck to. "Yeah his name is Ricky, uh and he's over there!" she pointed at some really dark-skinned tall, man. Although he wasn't as tall as Manny, who was 6'5" and weighed 270lbs of pure muscle, whew just thinking about him made it hot, I splashed some water on myself. Trina was light-skinned like Grammy and was 28 yrs old, she was a 'Can't get right', that's what Grammy called her anyhow. No matter what we tried she just didn't want to do anything positive with her life, ever since she was a kid, she just always wanted to do her own thing. All of the grilled meat & the corn was in one big aluminum pan on the table. The side dishes were already there and we bought 3 cakes for dessert. All of the kids ate first and sat at the tables, then Grammy, me and Manny and then everyone else, even that Ricky guy that my mom was with, he ate last. And we swam together, he was so much fun, I've always wanted to swim with someone before but never had the chance. My siblings either don't know how to swim or can't swim for as long as I can.
