Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Metatron

Uriel walked out of the library and made his way to the armory. Technically, there were no strict rules in heaven. Angels were designed to toe the line and do nothing more than what they had been created to do. Therefore, security around the armory wasn't tight, and as Uriel walked through the guards didn't challenge him.

He was an archangel, one of Gad's favorites. Incurring his wrath or the wrath of Gad was basically suicide. Although angels were immortal they knew that there were fates worse than death and pushed to their limits even angels could fall under the spell of the grim reaper. An angel's sun can be extinguished and essence erased.

Uriel walked into the armory and searched for the system that Raziel had described. He found the angel that had been converted to a system at the topmost level of the armory shining like a bright light and stored in a glass casing. The glass was made out of celestial energy and Uriel knew that only beings as mighty as him could interact with the angel in its current state.

In a lot of ways, the system was like Raziel. And Uriel could feel the familiar aura flowing out of the entrapped angel. Uriel opened the glass with his left hand and immediately an alarm went out. In a nanosecond, Michael was before him with his sword drawn out.

'What is this Uriel? What are you doing with Metatron in your hand?'

'So that's its name,' Uriel said calmly. He was prepared to meet Michael for he knew that the chances of Michael finding out about the theft was too high for it not to be considered a threat.

'You don't even know what lies in your hand.'

'I do. It is a system,' Uriel shot back.

'And who told you that?' Michael said. 'I assure you brother it is much more than that.'

Uriel took a few seconds to consider what Michael was talking about. He knew Raziel to only answer questions that he was asked and nothing more than that. Therefore, there was a possibility that Michael knew more about the weapon, as he was in charge of the armory.

'What is it then? I am certain that your lips are burning to tell.'

'That is Metratron.'

'You have said that. It is an angel a system of a peculiar kind.'

'That is more than an angel Uriel. Please, I implore you, kindly put it back.'

'I am only borrowing it as is my right.'

'That is a very dangerous being. Please, hear my plea. Place it back under the glass and leave.'

'No. I need this. I have the right to use it as I please.'

'I would ask Gad about this. I can't let you take it without permission from him.'

'Then you would be betraying our pact. For you would be leading Gad to uncover my plans.'

'Don't be absurd. I agreed to not tell Gad about your schemes. That was the covenant, and nothing more. I didn't promise to let you run amuck and do as you please. Yes, I can ignore your fiddling with the human but this I just can't. You are in heaven. I can't look away and let you be.'

'I am afraid that you must Michael. Your oath compels you.'

'No, it does not.'

'Think Michael. Think deeply. If you take news of this to Gad, he would surely ask you what I intend to use it for. And what are you going to do then?'

'My promise to you doesn't entail covering your tracks or being a co-conspirator in any way or form.'

'Well, I'm sorry that your sensibilities are hurt. I truly am.'

'I never thought I had see the day.'

'Which day?'

'The day that you would steal and lie within an hour. You aren't sorry that my soul is torn and my heart broken.'

'I actually am. Believe me or not, it doesn't matter. But the point remains that your oath compels you. You said that you would only rise against me when Gad finds out and then you would attack me with relentless furry. You can't reveal my secret until Gad finds out himself. Not revealing my secret also entails not hinting at it.'

'That is open to interpretation,' Michael said. 'But telling Gad is hardly the point here. Put the being back Uriel.'

'I'm sorry I can't do that. I need it for important business and given my rank that is explanation enough. If you must report me to Gad then do as you wish. But when he asks you what I plan to use it for, tell him that I said that I am using it on important business.'

'What do you really want to use it for?'

'Important business that it is none of yours.'

'Gad wouldn't hear that you took Metatron and simply be satisfied with an explanation as shallow as you taking it on important business.'

'Well, that is a "you problem", Michael. I have helped you as much as I can by telling you what to say if you must tell the most high or if he asks. But the rest is up to you. Now excuse me. By law, I have the right to leave with this.'

'With my permission,' Michael shot back.

'We are going in circles Michael and I am growing irritated. Stop me if you must, draw your weapon if you dare. But by Gad with this weapon, I am walking out of here,' Uriel said as he held the system in his left hand and walked towards Michael. As he walked past the powerful angel, he set his right hand ready to summon his flaming sword at a moment's notice, ready to battle against Michael and defend what he had taken.

Fortunately, Michael let Uriel leave. And outside the armory, Uriel could finally breathe. He decided to get out of heaven immediately before he ran into any more trouble. Being in paradise meant courting the risk of running into Gad himself and Uriel wasn't ready to face the most high while treason lingered in his heart.

And so it was that Uriel flew out of heaven and returned to earth, his base of operation, and the epicenter of his rebellion.
