'Where do you think you are going?' Vade's father asked.
Vade turned swiftly to face his father.
'And who the hell is this in your room?' His father continued.
'I am Uriel, an angel. It's a pleasure to meet you,' Uriel said, stretching forth his hand for a shake as was the custom among humans.
Vade's father stared at Uriel's hand like it was molded shit and looked up to his face in disgust.
'I am Vladimir Wagner. The king of the castle which you are currently trespassing on and whose son you are trying to abduct.'
'Abduct Vade?' Uriel said with a chuckle. 'Never. Adopt him on the other hand, now that sounds more like it. In fact, I am somewhat in the business of doing that right now.'
'What is he talking about Vade?' Vladimir asked looking at his son with anger and confusion dancing across his face. Vladimir was dressed in a black pair of pants, loafers, and a red dinner robe. He had clearly gotten out of bed haphazardly as his hair was rough and the dinner robe he had hastily slipped had a loosely tied belt.
'Uriel is my friend,' Vade said. 'He is the angel that I used to tell you about when I was young?'
At this, Vladimir tore his attention away from Vade and fixed his eyes on Uriel.
'You bastard. So you are the vile monster that has been feeding my son's mind with lies. Telling him you are an angel and pumping his head full of theories that are blasphemous and vile. I have barely managed to set him right and now you want to damage the work I have done.'
'First of all, Uriel said, closing his portal and stepping forward to face Vladimir squarely. Don't you dare call me a bastard?'
'Are you…'
Uriel raised up his hand, gesturing for Vladimir to keep shut. Vladimir was so shocked by the gesture that he couldn't even find the words to express his anger. Uriel took the opportunity presented by his astonishment to continue.
'Second of all, I am an angel. And more importantly, I am an archangel. Now, as for me feeding your child's mind with lies, I must say that I am quite disappointed in you. Vade praised you as the more rational and objective parent. I expected that at the very least you would understand that the very nature of a child is the most important factor when it comes to what he becomes. I couldn't turn him to what he is today if the raw materials weren't already available within him.'
'So you do admit that you turned him into what he is today,' Vladimir said.
'I can't but take some credit.'
'Then there are no words to be said. You shall die by my hands,' Vladimir said as he opened a hand-sized portal and drew out a powerful broad sword forged out of Damascus steel. He whispered a spell and the blade of the weapon set ablaze.
'This is ridiculous. I am the first wielder of a sword of fire. What you are doing is a mere mockery of my power,' Uriel commented but had hardly finished his sentence when Vladimir unleashed his first strike.
Uriel transformed into his angelic manifestation and unfurled his wings which deflected Vladimir's attack as they spread violently. Vladimir spun with the force of the counter and unleashed yet another strike in one swift motion. Once again, Uriel deflected the attack like it was nothing. He was about to grab Vladimir's hand to break it and disarm him when Vladimir whispered a spell and roared.
Fire rushed out of his mouth with the force of a tsunami, blowing the wall of Vade's room into smithereens. Uriel, covered his body with his wings, taking on the point-blank blast like a tank. He didn't think that Vladimir's flames could burn him but he preferred to be cautious. Despite his defensive stance, the force of Vladimir's roar pushed him out of Vade's room and into the field of the massive compound.
Vladimir's men saw Uriel and immediately opened fire with their machine guns.
'Puny humans,' Uriel muttered as a metal sword materialized in his hand and he flew down at the guards. Descending upon them with the speed of Lucifer's fall, slicing the powerless and unblessed humans into pieces of meat and bone, Uriel fought like an angered god. Only one of the guards had a bit of magic at his fingertips, and he had enough sense to know when he was absolutely outclassed. Whispering a spell, he tried to open a portal to escape into the comfort of his home or anywhere other than the range of Uriel's massacre. However, Uriel was furious and his rage had twisted into bloodthirst. The portal opened and the guard managed to jump in but it didn't matter. He was fighting against an angel who had a far greater grasp of time and space.
Uriel dug his hand into the portal behind him, holding the portal steady with his own power and pulling the foolish guard out. The guard looked around and found himself back in Vladimir's compound. He looked up to see Uriel looking down at him.
'Pl…pl… please.'
'Requiescat in Pace,' Uriel whispered as he slashed down with his weapon. However, rather than the satisfying sound of meat slicing and bone-breaking, Uriel's ears were assaulted by the clang of metal striking metal. Standing between him and the guard was Vladimir, his face a mask of unholy fury.
'You are no angel,' Vladimir said. 'You are a demon,' he added as he pushed Uriel back and unleashed an offensive strike. Uriel deflected the attack with his sword and dodged the other attacks that followed. Vladimir was relentless, unleashing strike after strike as Uriel dodged, and deflected, toying with the puny human that was fighting a futile battle. However, the joy of seeing Vladimir struggle soon vanished as Uriel grew bored.
He let out a sigh of exasperation and in one swift move, kicked Vladimir back, forcing his body to fly through the air for many meters before slamming into his gate and coming to a forced halt. His body was suspended in the large dent in the gate that the impact created before falling to the ground with a sad thud. Uriel jumped and landed right in front of Vladimir.
Vladimir didn't look good. He was exhausted and badly wounded. Sweat flowed out of his pores while blood gushed out of his wounds. He tried to get to his feet and even managed to stand half straight before crumbling back into a sitting position.
'You are dying. The smart thing to do is to be still.'
Vladimir kept quiet but from the wicked look on his face, it was clear that he was still determined to make Uriel pay.
'Tell me,' Uriel said, summoning a throne to appear behind him. 'What made you do something as stupid as attacking me, given the vast difference in our power,' Uriel said as he took his seat. 'I mean I can understand that when I looked human you could have fallen under the impression that you could take me on. But after I took on my angelic form and massacred your men, why didn't you stand down or flee. Why did you still decide to…'
Uriel's words were interrupted by a voice that slammed into his thoughts. At first, his eyes widened with shock as he feared that it was the voice of Gad. But the very next second he relaxed as he realized that Gad wasn't talking to him. It was Michael who had taken it upon himself to interrupt his fun.
'What have you done Uriel?' Michael asked his voice thick with worry and sorrow.
'I killed a few heretics who blasphemed against God. If God asks you that's what you will tell him.'
'I wouldn't lie to him on your behalf.'
'I don't care,' Uriel said. 'Get out of my head or stay and enjoy the show.'
Uriel refocused his attention on what was before him and was surprised to see Vade standing in his face rather than the idiotic father of the insolent brat.
'Where is your father? I had plans for him.'
'I took him away,' Vade said.
'Where did you take him to? Uriel asked, getting to his feet.
'None of your business.'
'I will be the judge of that.'
'He is my father,' Vade said. 'I can't let you kill him. I took him to a hospital. The odds of surviving are in his favor although rather slim. I wouldn't let you tilt the scales of his continued existence any further.'
'Let me? Know your place boy.'
'He is not your business, I am. Now tell me, Uriel. What is more rational, the pursuit of your business or chasing after a mere pet?'
Uriel stared at the boy for a few seconds and finally, his senses returned and with it a bit of retrospect. The boy was right. Killing Vladimir was pointless, stupid in fact, almost as stupid as taking joy in killing pointless humans. Vladimir had called him a demon and as he looked around at the unnecessary destruction he had caused, he couldn't help but wonder if he was right? Was he slowly becoming a demon because of being away from God's presence and allowing his evil idea to grow and fester? Those were the two causes of the infection that captured Lucifer's heart. Taking joy in destroying humanity was the first symptom that demons experienced and it seemed he was now exhibiting said symptoms. He couldn't help but wonder if he was on the path to falling.
However, rather than ruminate over the things going on in his mind, Uriel decided to forge ahead for it was too late to turn back.
'You are not just my business Vade, you are my magnum opus,' he said, as he opened a portal. Vade walked into the portal and Uriel followed in silence.
