Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The gift of Life.

Uriel stretched forward his hand with his palm facing upward as he summoned the system that was to be Vade's ally and weapon. A golden Metatron cube suddenly appeared before Vade's eyes and hovered above Uriel's palm. It was a complicated structure. Vade noticed some distinct features in the cube. It was a pentagram encased in a hexagon. The cube had thirteen circles, six at the edges of the hexagon, six within the structure, and one right in the middle of it all. The centers of all thirteen circles were connected with straight lines.

'I have seen that before, in a book. That is a Metatron cube,' Vade said.

'So that's what you see,' Uriel said with a smile. 'Well, it is understandable that your human mind would see what it can comprehend. This isn't a Metatron cube. This is Metatron himself. The greatest of all creatures of Gad, second only to him.'

'Really? And you happen to be carrying him around like a mere tool.'

'Yes, because he is. He is powerful but Gad is a jealous being as your mother might have told you. One day, a human-like yourself was allowed into the throne room of Gad. The foolish human saw Metatron and Gad and stupidly thought there were two authorities in heaven. He foolishly believed that Metatron was equal to Gad. Gad didn't take this insolence lightly and Metatron was whipped sixty times with a flaming baton. A humiliating punishment for an angel as great as him. But this punishment wasn't enough in Gad's eyes. Gad encased him in this form. Turning him into a weapon. The strongest angel of all time now became the strongest weapon of all time.'

'That's tragic.'

'Perhaps. But the good thing is that it is to our benefit. I will install Metatron in you now.'

'Install,' Vade said with a snicker. 'What am I a machine?'

'To me, you kind of are,' Uriel said. In one swift move, he slammed the cube into Vade's chest and the angel possessed the boy. Vade's concentration broke and his portal shattered into particles before vanishing into thin air. His world spun as Metatron began to unfurl in his mind, while the poisonous air of Plato flooded his lungs.

His mind was falling apart while his lungs burnt with a lack of oxygen and poison. Vade staggered in malady as suffocation squeezed his lungs dry. His eyes widened to their extreme with every gasp that bought no form of relief. He couldn't concentrate enough to create a portal mask once again. All he could do was resort to his brute solution of bursting open a large portal that went straight to his room.

Stretching his hand forward, he tore open the space before him and staggered into it, hoping that Uriel wouldn't try to stop him as he blacked out and fell through. As he took in his next breath and felt relief, he opened his eyes to find himself in his room. Uriel had let him make the trip. However, while the attack on his breath was over, the chaos in his mind was only getting worse.

Grabbing his head tightly in his hand, he screamed out loud as golden numbers flashed before his eyes, and an immense pressure pushed against the inside of his skull. Next came ramblings in different languages at once. The angel was speaking in tongues, struggling to make sense of his new state.

The torture went on for minutes that felt like eons until one coherent statement rang through Vade's head.

'Where am I,' Metatron said.

Vade had no answer but was happy to feel the pressure subside as the angel slowly began to stabilize.

'The mind of a human? Who did this? Lucifer? Speak human.'

'Not Lucifer,' Vade confessed. 'Uriel.'

'Uriel?' Metatron asked in confusion. 'That… That can't be.'

'Hello Metatron,' Uriel said with a smile.

'Is that Uriel's voice I hear? I must see what your eyes see. Gaining access to all sense organs,' the system announced. Vade felt a slight sparkle of gold flash through his eyes and he knew that Metatron was now seeing through his eyes.

'Uriel!' Metatron exclaimed. 'What malady is this? What have you done to me?'

'I have made you useful again my friend. I have saved you from a fate of idleness and gathering dust in the abyss of obscurity. I have given you thee gift of Life.'

'What are you talking about? This is madness. I want to see Gad. I want to see him now.'

'When last did you see him? '

'What?'

'Gad. When last did you see him?'

'I… I… Wh… What does it matter?'

'It doesn't. A lot has changed since you have been gone.'

'Gone?'

'Humans now have powers and I want you to train the boy who you now possess. Help him to track his health and faith. Advise him on things he can do and things he can't. You are a system now Metatron. I want you to serve as a guidance system for Vade.'

'I… I don't understand. This all seems like a bad crazy joke.'

'You don't need to understand everything. All you need to know is that I need you to serve the boy and improve him.'

'And if I refuse?'

'Then I will draw you out of him and kill you.'

'Metatron chuckled. You can't. Not in a million years.'

'I brought you into this world and put you in a human child. Do you really think I can't take you out of existence?'

Uriel's threat was replied with a long silence as Metatron considered the words of his brother.

'Fine. I will shut him down for now. I need to familiarize myself with the inner workings of this… this thing.'

'Suit yourself. But remember Metatron, if he dies, you die. If he fails you die. Gad can't save you from me. Nobody can.'

Metatron gave Uriel no response. Instead, he shut Vade down. Vade's sight suddenly went blank and he collapsed to the floor, falling into a deep sleep on his rich red rug.

Uriel watched as the boy slept and the golden lines of Metatron spread through his veins, infecting and mapping him. As the rebel watched Metatron work, he realized that he was now firmly in uncharted territories. All he was doing now had never been done before and would never be done again. There was no one to guide him or give him any clues on how to proceed, no mentor or consigliere. But suddenly his thoughts went to his predecessor, the leader of the first rebellion. He always hated the failure of the first insurgent and looked down upon him with disdain. But as he sat and watched his weapon and its guidance system, Uriel wondered if there was something to learn from the beast. At the very least, he could learn the things he should avoid.
