Rebecca looked in the direction Freya was looking. She was blown away by the man's good looks. She furtively looked at his gorgeous face before she said to Freya, "No problem. Then again, your boyfriend sure is handsome. He even visited your grandmother with you. He certainly treats you well."
Freya looked at Rebecca's besotted expression and laughed in her heart.
Gideon was far from good to her.
...
When Freya brought Gideon over to see her grandmother, the old lady was sitting in her wheelchair listening to traditional opera on the radio.
Freya walked into the room and turned off the radio. Then, she squatted beside the wheelchair to raise her head to look up at her grandma and smiled at the old lady. "Granny, I am here to see you."
"Freya, you are here."
Grandma Keller smiled kindly and turned to look up at the door. "Who is he?"
Before Freya was able to explain, the man's voice came from by the door. "Granny, I am Gideon Carter, Freya's husband."
Freya was completely astounded on hearing what Gideon said. Disbelief was written all over her face.
Did Gideon just call her Freya?
Did he just say he was her husband?
After encountering so many problems recently, this felt like an incredible gift to Freya.
Grandma Keller nodded happily as she looked at Gideon. She even reached her hand out towards him.
Freya looked at her grandmother's outstretched hand and instantly felt uneasy. She was afraid Gideon would not hold her grandmother's hand.
However, she promptly realized her fears were uncalled for. Gideon had already walked over from the door to place his hand in her grandmother's.
Grandma Keller placed Freya's hand in Gideon's.
She instinctively pulled back and wanted to run when she sensed the warmth radiating from the man's large hands.
However, Gideon held her hand tightly, rather unexpectedly. His eyes were inexplicably deep and profound.
The woman could not help blushing.
"Gideon, Freya has always had a hard life. Although my son adopted her, her stepmother had a bad temper and always took it out on her. It was honestly not easy for her when she was growing up. Now that she has married you, you have to be good to her from now on."
Freya rolled her eyes when she heard what her grandmother said. "Granny, don't be dramatic. I am perfectly fine now. Also, I have grown up to be very pretty. There is nothing for you to worry about."
Gideon did not respond to Grandma Keller.
Freya naturally had no expectation for any response from him either.
She pulled her hand from him and held her grandmother's hands. "Granny, how are you feeling recently?"
Grandma Keller instantly detected something amiss when Freya held her hand.
She held up her right hand and scrutinized it for a long time and asked, "Freya, you are already married. Why aren't you wearing your wedding ring?"
Gideon glanced at Freya calmly.
Freya hesitated for a long time before she finally lied and said, "Erm… Granny, I took off the ring and left it on the sink when I washed my face this morning and forgot to put it back on. I will remember to show it to you the next time I visit. The ring is beautiful and it has a huge diamond."
Gideon looked at Freya as she blatantly lied to the old lady without saying a word.
Grandma Keller glanced at Gideon but the man had already placed his hands behind his back. She suddenly sighed.
Gideon looked at them and cleared his throat. "Why don't you go ahead and chat. I am heading out for a minute."
Freya looked at him. "Uh huh."
After he had left, Grandma Keller held Freya's hand tightly. "Freya, you are still young and you have a long life ahead of you. Don't let your marriage end up like your adopted parents. Do you understand?"
