Myrina's gaze moved quickly to her mother's chest and her heart trembled when she was unable to notice any signs of breathing, even from this distance... Little Myrina knew her mother was dead.

____________

"Let my father go!" Myrina screamed as tears streamed down her face, all eyes turned to Myrina, it seemed like the people in the hall had only just noticed her presence.

Myrina's father's steely gaze changed to one of horror as the gaze of the man choking him slowly moved to settle on Myrina.

The moment that cold gaze landed on her, Myrina felt her whole body freeze up in fear...no,

What Myrina felt the second that gaze landed on her was beyond fear, it was terror.

The look in the man's soulless black orbs was extremely terrifying, so much so that Myrina was too scared to even let out a breath.

The man's gaze seemed to change slightly once he saw Myrina but his attention was quickly drawn back to Lord Torsten who delivered a firm kick to the man's chest.

The man loosened his choke hold in surprise and Lord Torsten delivered another powerful kick, successfully escaping the man's hold.

"Ah... this king thought all the fight had left you after the stubborn female died, children are quite the motivation, I see..." The terrifying man commended in an amused tone.

In his distraction, Myrina took the opportunity to dash for her mother's body, with trembling hands, Myrina checked for a pulse...no vibrations, no heart beat, no movement whatsoever... nothing.

Confirming her earlier suspicions that Lady Tora had indeed passed, Myrina broke down sobbing.

"Rina.... leave now!" Lord Torsten ordered his daughter firmly as he once again faced off against the intruder who had murdered his wife.

Myrina shook her head frantically, unwilling to obey such an order, she held her mother's body tighter, pulling the cold body closer to her chest as her throat was clogged with grief.

"Rina.... it's dangerous, listen to your father and leave now!" Lord Torsten yelled this time as he attacked the man,

Their swords met with an earth shaking impact but much to Myrina's dismay, her father's movements seemed slow and unlike him.

Myrina shifted her gaze to her father's facial pallor and immediately understood that her honored father had been poisoned,

The poison had probably already spread seeing as it slowly weakened him and the realization that her father would die whether he successfully defeated this man or not utterly terrified Myrina.

Myrina swallowed down her terror, the way her father had taught her to.

'Leaders were not permitted to show weakness no matter the dire situation'

Myrina's father had always said.

Myrina rose to her feet, furiously wiping her tears as she picked up her mother's sword.

"Mother and father are here.... where would I go?" Myrina said darkly before lunging towards the men advancing on her father from behind and blocking them with her sword.

Myrina knew her father was already weak, she would not permit anyone else to interfere with his last fight.

Myrina's sword clashed against that of one of the masked intruders and the force of the clash shook Myrina's whole being, despite her great skill, Myrina was still a child, seven summers of age.

Myrina gritted her teeth against the pain and lowered herself into a split, causing the masked intruder to loose his balance at the sudden change in her height.

Myrina swiftly pulled out a dagger from her belt and slashed the intruder's knees deeply.

The intruder let out a pained scream, probably not expecting Myrina's attack or perhaps underestimating her due to her young age, the intruder stumbled back in shock and Myrina swiftly jumped to her feet, leaping into the air with her sword at the ready.

Myrina infused her spiritual energy into the weapon in her hand and slammed it down, the after images the weapon produced due to the speed of it's descent was blinding.

Myrina's attack happened in the blink of an eye and the intruder was helpless to counter it, the intruder's head rolled off his shoulders, landing to the floor with a quiet thud.

Myrina stumbled back as the headless body staggered around for a bit before finally collapsing.

Myrina's little hands shook in terror as she realized she had actually killed someone, she had killed a living person, she had killed a man.

It was the first time Myrina had ever taken a life and contrary to what she had thought, it was scary...yes,

But Myrina did not feel dirty, he had deserved to die, they all did and Myrina swore to herself that she would kill them all.

"Rina! Behind you!" Kare's voice yelled from the door, Myrina swung a fist out as she spun around.

The fist was infused with enough spiritual energy that it created a loud boom on impact,

Myrina heard the sound of cracking bones as the chest cavity area of the warrior she hit was completely shattered, killing him instantly.

Kare sighed in relief, staggering towards his charge, it seemed Kare was injured.

Kare quickly pushed Myrina behind him, shielding her with his own body to protect her from the remaining masked men that were now rushing towards them.

Myrina moved out from the covering of her protector's body, a solemn look on her face, devastation rage and grief flashing through her mismatched orbs.

"Not today Kare...." Myrina said quietly.

Kare spared a glance at Lady Tora's body and then the battle Lord Torsten was engaged in and the fifteen year old warrior's heart was filled with pain as he nodded in understanding of his charge's intentions.

Today he could no longer shield his charge from the terrors of the world, today he could not protect his charge from danger like he used to, today his charge was no longer a child but a warrior in a life or death situation, today everyone would have to fight for their lives...

Kare's gaze hardened as he stepped back to stand at his charge's side, the intentions of this fifteen year old warrior was simple...

'This incapable protector will fight by young miss' side... this incapable protector will die by young miss' side....' Kare thought to himself as he prepared himself to meet their attackers.
