Kare's gaze hardened as he stepped back to stand at his charge's side, the intentions of this fifteen year old warrior was simple...
'this incapable protector will fight by young miss' side... this incapable protector will die by young miss' side....' Kare thought as he prepared himself to face their attackers.
____________
Myrina and Kare clashed swords with five of the masked warriors,
The strikes of the masked warriors were calculated and their spiritual energy was impressive, Myrina could tell they were skilled martial practitioners.
This fact did not deter either of the two young fighters as they met the attack of the masked warriors with a ferocity that stunned even the masked warriors themselves.
Her mother's sword in hand, Myrina struck fiercely at the masked assassins, putting her all into each and every move,
She released her destructive spiritual energy without reserve, making sure to kill every masked warrior she faced in the most gruesome manner possible.
Myrina was distracted from her fight by the sound of a body hitting the wall, Myrina turned sharply to see her father crumpled against the wall.
Lord Torsten Arden had lost the fight, it actually seemed the leader of the masked men had been toying with him earlier, only now releasing his full strength to end the battle.
"Father!" Myrina screamed in horror, rushing to her father's aid and crumbling to her knees at his side.
Lord Torsten Arden lifted his tired gaze up to his daughter's face, a bloody hand reaching for her,
Myrina quickly grabbed her father's hand, holding on to it like her life depended on it as tears poured down her face in uncontrollable waves.
"Rina, f..forgive this incapable f..ather, I have failed t..to protect you." Lord Torsten spoke in between pained gasps, his mouth was filled with blood that dripped out as he spoke,
Myrina's heart clenched in unbearable terror at the sight.
"Please... Please.... Please.." Myrina chanted pitifully.
Myrina was not completely certain what exactly she was pleading for.
Perhaps she was requesting her father not to die, for him to tell the king of hell that it could not be today.
Lord Torsten had never once denied his daughter of anything, as long as Myrina wanted it, it did not matter how lord Torsten had to procure it, he definitely would do it for his beloved daughter without hesitation,
But somehow Myrina knew this was not a request her doting father could fulfill.
Lady Tora Arden was gone, Myrina knew a part of her father's soul had already left with her mother, holding on this long was already more than Myrina could ask for,
Holding on long enough for Myrina to hear his final words was the last favor Lord Torsten Arden could do for his daughter.
Myrina knew this and yet the pain in her heart was so all consuming that the world seemed to dissolve around her and Myrina could feel herself loosing her grip on her consciousness.
"Look at me Rina...Look at me!" Lord Torsten commanded his gasping daughter in his dominant tone, a tone he had never used on her before.
Myrina felt her father's hand which was holding her own hand tighten painfully, with an urgency that told Myrina that her father knew he would not last much longer.
Myrina lifted her terrified gaze up to her father and Lord Torsten gave his beloved daughter a sad smile.
"Silly girl, h...aven't I told y..you repeatedly? A true A..arden ne...ver shows f..fear." Lord Torsten admonished tenderly, his words were stuttered as he stared sadly at his daughter's shivering form.
A choked sob escaped Myrina's lips at her father's words and the fond tone with which he spoke to her.
"R..rina, you must live, you mu..st live Rina! p..promise me...!" Lord Torsten pleaded urgently, his eyes beginning to loose focus,
Myrina shook her head frantically, clinging onto her father desperately.
"No! No father, not without you, not without mother! I.. I cannot do what you ask of me! I cannot! How am I supposed to live henceforth?! How should I live with this pain?!" Myrina screamed,
begging her father to retract his words, begging him not to condemn her to a life without them.
Lord Torsten Arden stared sadly at his beloved daughter, his shaky hands reaching for the ring on his finger, the rare firestone glowed a fiery red as Lord Torsten pulled it off his finger and placed it in Myrina's hands, closing her palm over it.
"You wil...l find a way, Why? Because you are an Ar...den and we al...lways fin...nd a way." Lord Torsten assured his daughter weakly but with conviction and firm believe that Myrina could live a good life even without him and her mother Lady Tora.
Myrina whimpered in pain, knowing she could not defy her father's final request.
Myrina nodded slowly and Lord Torsten gave his daughter a pained smile, his eyes slowly becoming unfocused.
Myrina laid her head down on her honored father's chest and felt it as he took his last breath, the faint glow of his power markings beneath his clothing dimming before completely dying out, his last words whispered to Myrina...
"I.. love you, my pre...cious daughter...you must live, live and protect Va..allarta." Lord Torsten had said, before his chest stopped moving entirely.
Myrina's heart wrenching scream echoed throughout the hall, much louder than the fight going on around her.
The pain in Myrina's heart was all consuming, the pain of loosing the two most important people in her life.
"Leave her...let her grieve." A dark, terrifying voice sounded, preventing the masked intruders from attacking a distracted Myrina.
This time however, the voice did not terrify Myrina, rather than terror, Myrina was consumed with the need for vengeance.
A rage that consumed her very being filled little Myrina, a rage that destroyed all rational thoughts, all Myrina saw was red and the only thing chanted over and over in her mind was one word.
'KILL!'
