I took a deep breath as I stared at Frieda's beautiful appearance at this grand vanity table I had in my chamber. This is it, I will be able to know if this was the novel that I used to read or some kind of fluke.
"Milady, are you nervous? This isn't like you at all." Maria told me as she fixed my hair, I smiled at her as I swung my head. "That's not it. I'm fine Maria, You don't have to worry about it." I said.
Few moments after Maria finished my hair, someone knocked on my door. "Third Lady, this is Devoine." Uh, the Head Butler of this estate. "What is it, Mr Devoine?" I asked as I wear the famous smile of the queen of high society. "His Royal Highnesses has arrived." I almost forgot the fourth prince will be accompanying me towards the venue.
"I see, I will be there in a moment," I answered. I stood up as Maria helped me, she also placed my cape on my shoulders before we left my room to see the two princes in the receiving room.
In the hallway, I met Seilah with her lady-in-waiting. "Second Sister, you're so beautiful," I told her, as I smiled. I noticed her lady-in-waiting frowning at the side but I ignored her. After all, I'm just telling her what I'm seeing.
"You too." She said briefly and resumed walking.
We arrived at the receiving hall and saw two dashing young men standing, waiting for us. They are standing with our parents and siblings.
Both of them have green hair and magenta eyes. They are both so gorgeous, although in a different category. One was giving off an angelic aura, handsome in every way possible. Well, that must be the Third Prince, Kaiser Beleriadcrest, the Perfect Prince, and Seilah's fiancé.
The other one has longer hair than the first, he tied it on a ponytail and it was evident that he doesn't want to be here at all. I think that's my fiancé, Jaeger Beleriadcrest. He looked edgy and was the complete opposite of the other guy beside him.
"Our young ladies, are finally here." I heard the Madame announced as she welcomed us when we finally arrived.
"Your fiancés have arrived as well. You better leave now. Your brother and I will be there in a few hours." Father said as he smiled.
I glanced at Jaeger in front of me, he forced a smile as he offered his hand. "May I escort you, Milady?" He asked, I smiled as I did a curtsy. "I would love to, Your Highness," I said as I took his hands and we started walking towards the front door where the royal carriage that the brought was waiting.
Throughout the journey to the palace, the carriage was quiet. I have nothing to tell him, Jaeger on the other hand doesn't even want to be here in the first place. And he's not even solicitous enough to not make her fiancée feel that way. What an absolute rascal!
Finally, the spine chilling journey to the palace has come to an end. The carriage stopped and the coachman opened the door for us. Jaeger jumped out first and helped me to get out after him, although it was obvious that it was against his will.
"His Highness, Fourth Prince Jaeger and Third Lady Frieda Landerborne ha arrived!" Our arrival was promptly announced as soon as the door was opened by the knights assigned to it.
It felt as if everyone were judging by the way they stared at us. The truth that he was cheating on me openly must have gotten to their ears already. They are terrifying! I wonder how Freida was able to manage them all.
"His Highness, Third Prince Kaiser and Second Lady Seilah Landerborne has entered!" I glimpsed behind us as the two marched with ease. The prince was all beaming while his partner was barely even heeding the attention of the people.
"Look at the difference between the Third and Fourth prince. I can't believe that the royal palace raised such a vulgar man!" And there goes the comparison of the two princes. And as always, Jaeger was the underdog.
"The Third Prince and Third Lady Landerborne should have been a more suitable match. Both of them are graceful and kind. On the other hand, The second lady was very unrefined. Holding swords and all that." Woah, If it was me, I would rather live a peaceful life with no connection with any of the royals! They only induce death flags for me!
"I'm leaving my lady," Jaeger muttered at me as we reached the corner. He kissed my hands before blending in with the crowd. I just have to tail Seilah until later. I have to know if this was the novel.
I was hoping that it was not but... Argh! I just have to wait and see!
But first off, I can't let Seilah disappeared from my sight even once!
"Third Lady Landerborne, I'm glad that you recovered. I heard that you were sick these past two weeks." Suddenly, a horde of young ladies appeared before me, I can no longer see Seilah anywhere. No!
"I'm feeling better, Thank you for your concern, Lady Harriette." I was astounded at Frieda for being able to memorized hundreds of names. She might even be a genius.
"Your dress looked wonderful on you, did the Stellar Boutique made it?" Another lady asked, there are lots of follow-up questions that followed and I have to answer all of them.
Jeez, it sucks to be the queen of the elite circle. I'm so amused that Frieda can do all of it.
"I heard that His Highness was caught with Lady Hildegard, last time at the church. Is that true, Lady Landerborne? I even overheard that she tried to impersonate you." Another noble lady spoke to me. But unlike the others who were showering me with praises, it seemed like she's trying to embarrass me in front of this huge crowd.
"I guess it was true that the Third Lady had no control over her fiancé. Was she that powerless?"
"How pathetic."
The other ladies started chattering about it, if I was right, she was Lady Adaline Berg, I think I remembered a character with a similar name as her in the novel. She was a distinguished daughter of a ducal house who always opposed Third Lady Landerborne, mainly because she believes that Frieda was not chaste at all and her angelic appearance was nothing but a mere façade.
She will also become Seilah's ally in the middle section of the story.
But I can not let her get on my nerves that easily, I have a reputation, I was preserving.
"Branding a royalty with a groundless allegation indicates an insult to his Royal Majesty. That's was what the Royal Decree No. 14 section 4, series of 785, year of the 13th year of the King Gawain." I stated as I enacted a law I remembered from my studies at home.
"Or perhaps, are you familiar with the term Lèse-majesté, Lady Berg?"
I noticed her jaw dropped. The others started gossiping again. "That's... That's not what I meant, Third Lady, I--" She can't utter a word because she knew she was wrong.
"Trying to humiliate Third Lady Landerborne? How dare she?"
"How shameless."
Look at these people. At one point, they were talking twaddle about me and the next moment they are already on my side? How brazen.
There were ample holes in my argument but of course, they have no time to discern it because they were confounded by the royal decree that I cited. Many people tend to overlook errors when someone uttered something intellectual.
So I see, even in this world, this approach still works.
I supposed it won't be that difficult for me to live my life here.
