COMBAT PRACTICE
I walked into the gym that looked more like a training ground than an actual school gym. There were people fighting with sticks, people doing fancy somersaults, and some witches practicing defensive and offensive magic.
"Well, if isn't Katherina come back from the dead. I was rather hoping you would've stayed away longer." I turned around at the voice, my eyes narrowing on the redhead, who was glaring at me hatefully.
"Hello, Zira. I heard you got kidnapped." I said, grinning widely as Zira's face dropped before she started glaring at me before smiling sweetly at me.
"I heard you got dragged back here by the charming duo," Zira said smiling. I blinked at her once before punching her straight in the face. She staggered back before she snarled and launched herself at me. We exchanged blows back and forth, punches and kicks that pushed and pulled us across the room, slamming us towards the east wall.
"YOU BITCH." Zira said snarling not unlike a wolf. "You'd know wouldn't you," I said grimacing pushing her away from me, my hands clenching as purple fire sparked in my palms with my fury.
Zira smiled ferociously at the sight of my palms. "Look who can call upon her powers now?" She said smirking.
"What horrible tragedy must've occurred for that to happen?" Zira said cruelly. I screamed and sent a blast of pure white power straight at her stupid smug face. She raised up her palm a wall of fire sprouting across her face.
She wagged a finger at me, "Naughty, Naughty. What would your parents say?" Zira said sending a streak of fire my way, which I deftly dodged. I sent a thunderbolt her way that she also dodged, which made it land straight on the gym wall making a crater.
"NOT THE WALLS." Coach Jains barked. I rolled my eyes then fell backward as a ball of fire flew into my chest.
"Argh!" I said rolling to douse the flames and sent a blast of ice-cold water her way. She put out her hands and the water stopped midair, making a rolling motion with her hands the water turned into a sphere-like shape that started to boil as she rimmed the ball with a stream of white-hot fire. I braced myself ready to grab the sphere as she threw but never got the chance as the ball was shot with an arrow in midflight. Breaking the ball and making the water splash on the floor.
"THAT IS ENOUGH." I turned to look at a furious Davenna looking right at me before she turned and glared straight at Zira.
"Zira what the hell?" she turned and looked back at me.
"Katherine it's so good to see you. But did you really have to start a fight your first day back?" Davenna asked exasperated.
"I didn't start anything," I said annoyed but not surprised that Davenna was taking Zira's side.
"I heard Daniel had to take Oliver to the infirmary. And that he was limping as he did." Davenna said raising her eyebrow.
"I was provoked," I said.
"Provoked or not. The headmaster has asked you to come to the office. We turned surprised to see the history professor watching us sternly. She turned sharply her red hair flying like a revolutionary flag behind her. I sighed as I followed her. She made a stop just before the door.
"You too Iris." She said. I turned surprised to see Iris in the combat room. I hadn't realized we shared class. She threw the training stick she was using back in the bin and shoved her hands in the pockets of her hoodie as she followed us.
"What's all this about, Cassie?" Iris asked as we left the room.
"Professor Cassandra Darke. Is there no respect left?" Cassie asked scowling. "You'll always be Cassie to me," Iris said winking at me as she did.
Cassie rolled her eyes as she made a turn for the many, many steps that led to the Headmaster's office. "The rest of your group came back with Irina," Cassie said.
"They told me to fetch the two of you." I glanced over at Iris who looked tense. "Is it bad or good that they are back already?" I asked, I was unsure as to why I was even being called in.
"Unclear. I'd be more worried on why they called you for debrief." Iris said narrowing her eyes at me. I shrugged. I had no idea why I was being called in, just that I was.
Headmaster's Office (Again!)
"So to summarize, the Dragons are dead meat, literally because these people want to eat them for dinner," Iris said.
I glanced at her, despite her words that were laced with sarcasm there was a huge amount of tension that seemed to run along her body. She was worried. I frowned turning to look at Marcus who was gazing at Iris with concern. "Why am I here?" I asked, watching as Marcus turned his gaze to me raising his eyebrow.
"You are here, Katherine because within the span of a day you have managed to send two of my honor roll students to the infirmary not to mention wrecking the gym. You seem to have some pent-up aggression that would be better served on someone who is more durable." Marcus said.
"And who exactly might that be?" I asked crossing my arms.
"Her name is Rina. She's an old friend."
