"I don't like this," Katherine muttered. I couldn't help but agree. The Queen of Light and the King of the dark fighting did not seem to bode well. "Isn't there anything we can do?" Katherine asked.
"I don't think so," Irina said. There was a groan behind them, and they turned in surprise to see Damien behind them. He sat up looking, dazed.
"How?" He said, looking at Katherine and Irina, then he looked around. "How did I get here?" Damien asked.
"What's the last thing you remember?" I asked.
"I was fighting the Dark King and then suddenly we were attacked by fire. By Zira. I was thrown and then when I woke up I was here." Damien said, his temper flaring.
"What is going on Irina?" He asked darkly.
Katherine turned to me, her eyes wide. "Doorway." She uttered. I looked back at the window. The lake shimmered and my fingers tensed. I wished to be there. To fight. Marcus would say that was always my biggest issue. Wanting to fight at any moment. I looked back at Katherine and Damien, who both looked pale and worried. "There's potent magic flying all over a door between here and there must've been formed," I said.
"Is there any way to help?" Katherine asked.
"No, I wouldn't even if I could," I said.
"Why?" Damien asked, the irritation clear on his face. "Doors like that are unstable. There's no way to help them unless we're willing to collapse the pathway." Irina said.
"All we have is the hope that they will make it out."

All that could be heard in his office was the clicking of the clock and the scrape of his pen against paper. It took all he had not to throw everything around his office. To throw a tantrum like a five-year-old child. First Katherine runs off in the dark of the night and then the fiery Zira was taken amid a school dance by the Dark King of the fae. Marcus was having a pretty dreadful week. He hadn't been surprised the night after the dance when he had gone to check on Davenna that Hunter sat in her unslept bed, his head in his hands.
"I think I would've preferred boys to her running off in the middle of the night for some god-forsaken quest." He said, his words slurred.
"Have you even slept?" I had asked, knowing the answer, when he looked up at me with anger in his eyes.
"My baby is gone. Excuse me if I can't sleep." Hunter had said. I looked again at my clock, tempted to make its ticking end forever. I didn't mind Hunter's anger. He had instantly loved Davenna from the moment we had found her in our alleyway. I put my pen down and leaned back in my chair.
I had refused to take Lucifer's office. He had worked in the topmost tower of the building. Technically, he was high in a tower of sorts. But he had also chosen an office with windows all around. People may think that was to make people feel at ease to visit him, but it also allowed him to see everyone currently in the library see who was studying and who was working at causing trouble.
I knew every sound in my office so when I suddenly heard the whoosh of magic and the flapping of paper wings. I opened my eyes and watching the golden bird fly around my office before landing on my discarded pen. The bird flapped his wings once more. The entire bird unfolded itself until it was a yellowed square piece of paper. The Spidery writing carved into the paper as if an invisible writer wrote the words. I leaned forward knowing the words come from Irina in the only way she could have come from Irina, in the only way she could have made this was by Katherine's and hers combined with magic. Which brought a whole set of dark thoughts. He looked down at the letter, reading the spidery words.
'I am bound by the laws of the solstice by the Queen of the forest fae to keep my silence. So I cannot speak to you or go to you in your time of need. You and I have fought long enough to know that if I had been able to, I would be at your side or hers. But I'm also an extremely selfish human. Even with my added lifetime as a witch. I was there when we found Zira and I have loved her more and more with every passing day. I am ashamed to know that Davenna was in my grasp and I let her go to what may be her doom, to save the girl I have loved as a daughter. Davenna isn't alone. She has ventured far and wide, gathering allies of all kinds. An ally of hers has joined me to both craft this letter and to watch over your daughter. The Queen of light and the Dark King are currently locked in battle. I know very well that this might very well be the end of everything, but I have faith in your daughter. You and Hunter have trained her hard and well. I think she'll surprise you with how she proves herself.
All my love,
Irina
Marcus watched the paper disintegrate into ash. "Well. Hunter's going to be even more pissed now."
