I've never really thought about dying. But I never thought it would be at the hands of people who wanted to eat my heart. "You have got to be kidding me," Hulio said in a near growl.
"We spent years as Dragons without any sign of danger." Hulio began furiously.
"Any danger that we can remember," I said, interrupting what would've been a rather loud rant from my twin who glared at my interruption.
"My point is how did we not know or been attacked by these mercenaries before?" Hulio asked. I narrowed my eyes. I was wondering the same thing.
"The witch's spell sealed you into Dragon form. You were both cursed to guard the two gates to the garden of the Mortal Bloom's. The curse must've had a failsafe." Iris said, glancing at me before turning her attention to Hulio.
"To HELL WITH THIS. How are we supposed to believe the word of a warlock that we just spent the better half of two days fighting off?" Hulio said.
"We could always ask them," Raena said glancing at Iris who went pale.
"Who is them?" I asked alarmed, Iris was one of the bravest people I knew, if she was scared then I knew there was reason to worry. "The Witches Brewery."
"The Witches what?" I repeated blinking twice. "The witches Brewery are a coven of witches that are basically the cause of more than half the atrocities that the world at large faces," Thaddeus said darkly.
Katherine growled. "The Witches Brewery are a clan of witches that have the gift of foresight. The gift of the future." She said glaring at Thaddeus. "The future is no gift, little one. It's a curse." Thaddeus said.
"In any case, there is one among them that doles out prophecies," Katherine said.
"More like portents of doom," Thaddeus said darkly. I looked over at Iris and Raena who were both whispering between themselves.
"What do you think, Iris?" I asked my voice cutting through the bickering of the witches. Iris glanced at me, surprised to have been addressed she met my eyes across the room and I immediately knew I wasn't going to like what she was about to say.
"The witches can help. But I'm forbidden to go there." She said calmly. "And where is there?" Hulio asked crossing his arms.
"Shanghai. The city is full of light and awesome Chinese food." Raena said.
"While the two of you and Raena go talk to the witches, I'll escort Katherine to the school," Iris said.
"I am not going back to New Orleans," Katherine said angrily.
"Oh yes, you are. I never not complete missions." Iris said darkly. "Whatever. Beef you have in the school, I suggest you get ready to face it." Iris said making a circular motion with her fingers making silver bracelets appear around Katherine's wrists.
"You're shackling me?" she said furiously.
"Smart move. She's a feisty one." Thaddeus said dryly.
Iris scowled at Thaddeus. "Do I even want to know why you were after Katherine? Or why you gave us so much trouble?" Iris asked.
"Because she stole from me," Thaddeus said.
"I didn't steal from you, it belonged to my mother and therefore it belongs to me," Katherine said furiously.
Thaddeus rolled his eyes. "I wasn't about to let her walk off with it," Thaddeus said.
"Off with what?" Hulio asked glancing from Thaddeus to Katherine. Thaddeus walked straight up to Katherine and yanked a silver chain that she had around her necklace. Her eyes burned with fury that matched the violet stone Thaddeus now held in his hand.
"All this for a sparkling rock?" Hulio asked.
"That's no rock," I said looking at the sparkling stone. "It's a witch's totem," Raena said watching the stone.
"Faerie made by the looks of it," Raena said.
"It belonged to my mother. She was part of an ancient clan of pureblood witches. When she became pregnant with me she ran knowing that her child would be taken from her. I know this because she wrote a letter that was delivered on my sixteenth birthday. It's why I left." Katherine said glaring hatefully at Thaddeus. "She sold that stone so she could live with me. It's the only thing she had that was truly hers. It belongs to me now." Katherine spat out.
Thaddeus stared at her for a long while before he tied the chain back on her neck. Katherine flinched at his gentleness with surprise. "Instead of sneaking around, you should've just said that," Thaddeus said. He backed away glaring at the rest of us. "Get out of my castle." He said before walking off.
I rolled my eyes at the dramatics and turned to Iris. "I'd rather go with you," I said to her making her flush. "I'd prefer if you came with us, actually," Raena said. I turned to her surprised to hear that. I didn't have much in common with my brother's soulmate, in fact, we bumped heads more often than not.
"Why would you want me?" I asked narrowing my eyes slightly at her.
"The Witches prophecies will work better if you are both there." Iris said glancing at Katherine who nodded.
"Why are you forbidden to go to Shanghai?" Katherine asked giving Iris a side glance. "The last time I was there I blew up part of Taikang road."
