Chapter 38 - I’ll do One Better

Faust concentrated and gathered earth attributes mana to gather around him before he conjured an earth wall that encased both Angra and the boss who was just thrown to the other side of the room. After the earth wall is set and didn't need any more earth attribute mana to maintain, Faust then fused his death attribute mana to the earth wall, causing the entire part of the wall is now layered with death mana that eats all the other mana attributes beside itself and harms any living being that touched it.

The boss looked at the scene around him and saw that now, he is trapped inside some kind of wall with the fusion kid. He wondered why bother making another layer of wall even though they are already trapped in the basement and there's only one exit available, 'Isn't the flame wall already suffice for blocking the exit?' he thought.

'And this kind of earth wall can't do anything to hold me back.' he thought as he looked at the earth wall near him and tried to get near it.

"I advise you to not touch or go near that wall at all," Angra said nonchalantly.

"I don't know what kind of job your friend has that he is confident to confine me in such flimsy walls, but I'll show you not to underestimate me so much." The boss said as he prepared to punch down the wall and just make sure he succeeded in destroying the wall, he used the light version of shield break by manually gathering mana to focus on his right hand. He needed to be wary even though the wall looked like an ordinary earth wall, the other kid is able to use complicated earth and fire spells.

The wall might have traps or something that he didn't know, so he also used earth fusion to further strengthen his body if something like spikes came out from the wall.

Looking at the man in front of him who didn't believe his words, he just stayed still and waited for the man to realize his actions were foolish and useless.

After the boss finishes his preparations, he thrust his right fist with all his might to the earth wall behind him. He is 90 percent sure that he will be able to break something that is only made of earth because his advanced monk job has given him a skin and body toughness that can rival steel. But the rest 10 percent is what makes him use earth fusion as well, although it is harder to keep up both earth fusion on all over his body and concentrating mana only on his right hand, the boss is still a person who's on his third job and the task is still doable.

When his fist was about to hit the wall, he suddenly felt that the mana that was gathered on his right fist was being drained away, before finally he felt that his body was starting to feel weaker. After he realized that something was wrong, the boss hurriedly pulled back his fist and took a few steps back away from the wall.

'What was that?!?' he looked at Angra's reaction and he didn't show any care whatsoever. 'What kind of thing can sap away mana and weaken the body?' The boss thinks hard about what thing can possibly enable this kind of thing to happen. To disperse the mana from somebody's influence they needed to have a stronger influence, although it is hard to do and it is a very complicated process, it's not impossible to do. But to weaken someone's vitality will usually require the combination of chemicals that weakens the body and magic to hasten the process. But the boss didn't see the kids using any kind of chemicals, and if it is really chemicals, it should have spread across the area, and weaken their bodies even if they are away from the wall.

He tried to think of other ways but he couldn't think of other methods to make that feat possible. 'It is impossible unless…'

'No, there is no way…' he glanced at the kid in front of him with a watchful gaze. 'The only possible answer is…'

"You done speculating? And if you want to ask, yes that wall is covered in death mana. If there's nothing else, let's start our fight."

Hearing the fact spelled out to him, didn't help him to be calm but instead terrified him even more. People who are able to use death attribute mana are either killed or controlled by the kingdom for the reason that they are dangerous. A person who is only on his first job is capable of defeating people that are on their third, because the nature of death mana is to eat other attributes and elements and also eat on a living being's life force.

If his opponents right now are able to use death mana freely and with control, that means that they have trained in using it. And no ordinary people should be able to do this.

'Are they from the capital? Or are there other organizations that want me to be dealt with?' All sorts of questions are popping up in the boss' head. If he is really targeted by the large organizations or important factions in the capital city, then there is nothing that he can do about it. He needs to abandon his organization and focus on surviving himself.

"I'm attacking first if you don't want to start." Angra said while dashing to the boss' direction.

The boss finally regained his focus and concentrated on dealing with the problem in front of him right now, rather than the ones in the future.

Like before, they trade attacks blow by blow, punches and kicks are thrown and blocked every second. Angra saw that the fight was still going nowhere so he decided to try something else. He gathered fire mana on both of his hands, and formed the solid flame hand-blade.

He slashed the blade aiming at the boss' chest but it was blocked by one of the boss' arms. Because of the steel skin passive, and Angra's magic is not dense enough, the flame hand-blade failed to cut off the boss' arm completely, but it was enough to leave a cut wound about 2cm deep and the sheer heat of the blade scorched the part where it had passed through.

Seeing that even his steel skin can't completely block the hand-blade and his attacks are not going through Angra's defense, the boss knew if he played the long game, his defeat would be 100 percent guaranteed.

So he decided to gamble and used his shield break skill that were proven earlier to succeed in dealing some kind of damage to Angra. Although the preparation will be longer when he gathered the mana while moving, it is the only option he had since standing still right now will definitely earn him a slash from the masked kid's fire hand-blade.

Since simultaneously fighting and gathering mana on his hand is an arduous task, he focused more on dodging and parrying Angra's attack.

With his mana sense, Angra sure noticed the gathering of attributeless mana on the boss's right hand, and he knew that the attack from before that launched him onto the wall and also causing an overload of mana in his body was coming again when the boss finished his preparation.

"Using the same trick again? How about this, I'll do one better for you."

Angra then discharged his hand-blade and started gathering fire attribute mana on his right fist.

'Is he trying to copy the shield break skill? It might be possible, but the result will be greatly weaker than the one that is assisted by the skill.' How the skill work is, he only needs to gather a lot of mana in his fist until he felt that he can't hold it any longer then the skill (the system) will assist the user to overload the mana in his fist and to deliver all the mana inside his fist into the object that the fist made contact with. And doing all that without the skill (the system's) help is very difficult even for a third-job.

Because Angra also stopped his attacks to imitate the shield break skill, it also gives the boss time to fully prepare the skill to its strongest potential. The boss looked at Angra's direction and saw a faint red glow coming from Angra's hand.

'Is he gathering specific attribute mana? His body won't be able to hold out against the mana imbalance from the overload of certain attribute mana in his body.' The reason that the shield break skill didn't have an element infused in it was because the attributeless mana is the easiest type of mana to control and the overflow of attributeless mana is more bearable since it is the element that keeps the other element from clashing with each other and balancing them out.

When both of them were ready, they bolted into each other's direction with their fist winded up from behind gathering as much momentum as possible before the moment of impact. The boss is sure that the masked kid's fist will explode the moment it tries to release the mana contained inside it. The moment that the fist collided…
