Later that evening after dinner Ling Qin headed to his father's study to talk to him.
After his parents got married his father moved in with them. Probably because it was more convenient seeing how the house was close to both his school and his mom's work place . As for his dad , S City was a two hour drive from A City or he could take a plane there when he was needed which would make it half an hour . From his deduction his dad did not seem to be an ordinary soldier. It seemed like he did not need to go to work unless he had training or some mission . Other than that he was on break. I guess that's why he did not care much about location of the house since he did not have to travel to and from work on a daily basis.
Knock knock knock
"Come in!" came Ling Xiao right after the knocking. Taking in a breath Ling Qin opened the door before he went in. "Hey bud, can I help you with something." Ling Xiao asked little Qin when he saw him by the door. "Mhm" Ling Qin nodded his head. After that silence followed as Ling Xiao waited for Ling Qin to speak. Seeing as Ling Qin was not speaking Ling Xiao got up and moved towards the sofa from his desk.
"Come on sit here" Ling Xiao said pointing towards the couch across himself. "You can tell me whatever is on your mind and whatever is bothering you. Dad will listen to everything you have to say ok." Ling Xiao continued to try and gently coax Ling Qin to open up with him. During this time though he had been getting along very well with little Qin he always felt that there was still some distance between them, like a wall stuck in between their relationship and he wanted to resolve that . If resolving that wall could be done by listening to the kid, then he was all ears. Not only would he listen but he would also try to solve it to the best of his ability.
After Ling Qin sat down he took a breath and mentally gave himself a pat on the back for encouragement before he began "Dad I'm about to tell you something very important but before that you have to promise me to listen to me fully and objectively. Don't just shut down what I'm about to say. You...promise me that you will believe me. It's very important that you do." As Ling Xiao listened to Ling Qin speak so much like an adult he couldn't help but smile mentally. He would have done it physically but he was afraid that Ling Qin would regard that as him taking his words as a joke and that would discourage the boy. It might even increase the distance between them and he couldn't have that." Ok I promise you that I will listen to everything you have to say objectively and seriously and will not take your words as a joke."
Once he heard his father promise him, Ling Qin was finally reassured.
Breathing in he began " I know this will sound crazy but this is the truth. The world is going to come to an end in three weeks time and the apocalypse will start just a week after." After spitting those words out and seeing that his dad hadn't said anything Ling Qin began to panick as he thought that his dad didn't believe him " I swear that I'm telling the truth. There's going to be an alien attack in three weeks time and then after that the whole world will be covered in smog and then people are gonna get get sick and die and others will just get high fevers. Everyone will collapse on April 15 at midnight and once people wake up most of them will become zombies while others remain ordinary and others get powers."
At this moment Ling Xiao was in shock. He was able to understand every word that left his son's mouth but how was it that he wasn't able to understand it once it was all put together.
"You... How do you know all this? Ling Xiao finally asked
"I..I" Ling Qin hesitated for a bit before he finally decided to get it all out and lay the truth bare before his dad " I'm reborn"
"What"
"I know it's crazy but it's the truth. Look I can prove it to you." Right after Ling Qin had said that he placed his hand on the coffee table between them and took it into the space before he brought it out a few seconds later. All this done while looking nervously at his dad wanting to gouge his reaction.
"Your reborn..?"Ling Xiao said more to himself than Ling Qin but the boy did not realize that in his highly tense state.
Ling Qin nodded his head. Seeing that his father was not over reacting or treating him like some monster but instead seemed to have accepted it Ling Qin finally relaxed before he spoke about his past.
"Yep I am reborn. I came back close to a year ago, a year before the apocalypse and during that time things have been going the same way as my past life so I can say with confidence that the apocalypse will still arrive as scheduled." Being silent for a second Ling Qin realized that things were not exactly the same as his past life.
"Well except for you and grandma and them." He mumbled
Ling Xiao was a trained soldier so how could he probably miss that.
"What do you mean except for us?" He questioned.
"Well in my past life even until the apocalypse began I had never even met my mother's family or heard mom talk about them. They were a foreign concept to me. And as for you" Ling Qin paused as he looked straight into his dad's eyes.
"What impossible ! "Ling Xiao exclaimed "there is absolutely no way I would not have showed up in your life!"
Ling Xiao was very confident in himself when it concerned his values, he could garuentee that there was absolutely no way he would not have showed up in their lives if he knew about them and since Ling Qin had said he had been reborn in the past that means that by now the past him should also know about them and should have come to them so how was it possible for him not to appear.
"It's not that you didn't show up at all but I only met you about two and half years into the apocalypse only....only that mom had already passed on a few months back when that happened so you never got to meet." Ling Qin explained feeling a little depressed.
Silence lasted for a while before Ling Qin continued. "And that's why I came to you now, I want to save mom. I don't want her to die again and I... I can't do that on my own. I wanted to though but I realise that there are somethings I just can't do with my age so will you help me??" Ling Qin asked hopefully
"Mhm" Ling Xiao answered "I'll help you. It's my duty as a father and a husband to keep both of you safe so I won't just sit while I know that danger us approaching."
"Really thank you for believing me!" Ling Qin replied joyfully." Your the best!" he said throwing himself into his father's arms.
"Mhm" Ling Xiao hugged him back "but I can't help you now. Ling Xiao added.
"What!" Ling Qin quickly moved back "You!!! Do you want to go back on your word. You can't do that you just promised and you can't break a promise once made. It's not allowed. Or what is it that you don't believe me and you think that I'm just making up some story us that it." Ling Qin hissed completely riled up.
Ling Xiao looked at the little guy amused. The boy looked like a cat whose tail had been pulled.
" No that's not it. What I meant was we can continue this tomorrow. You have school tomorrow and it's already so late, I'm sure you don't want your mom to come in here and kill us first before the zombies right." He joked trying to calm the little kitten down
"Ohhh" Ling Qin deflated "hehe right of course mom and school. Well I should go sleep now" he said scratching his head and trying to divert the topic so that he would not have to answer about what had happened earlier.
"Right bye" Ling Qin said before he quickly made it for the door.
" Qin'er!" Ling Xiao called out
"Yes dad" Ling Qin flinched a little as he responded
"Have a goodnight and don't stress we will talk about this tomorrow."Ling Xiao finished looking at him
"Mhm goodnight Dad" Ling Qin replied shutting the door lightly after himself as he left .
After he made sure that the door had been closed and that Ling Qin had gone Ling Xiao relaxed his taunt body and sank into the couch trying to process all that he had learned from his son.
It had taken him a while but he had finally registered everything he had just heard. His son Ling Qin was reborn and not just reborn but he seems to be from a word or timeline different from his as some events seem to be different from his but the past being all the same . And if Ling Qin is reborn then does that mean that there is a possibility that Emilia is reborn as well.
Now that he thought about it more abnormalities in her behavior begun becoming apparent to him. His relationship with her seems to have proceeded to smoothly with little to no resistance and it should not be like that. Not that he wanted it to go another way but logically speaking which young women or women in general would agree so easily to marry a man that she had never met so easily with no resistance at all. Especially with Emilia's temper it just wasn't possible.
Thinking back it seemed that Emilia already knew him when they first met and she also acted very familiar with him like they had Known each other for years. She also seemed to strangely know all of his likes and dislikes.
At first he had just shrugged it off but thinking about it now it might not be a coincidence. Emilia had also sorted out the relationship between herself and her parents which she did not do in his past life and seemingly in Ling Qin . So she probably didn't do so as well in her past life and decided to complete it in this life so that she would not regret it again.
"Funny how I thought this was all a result of my charm and butterfly effects from my rebirth. Seems I'll have to look into this more before I jump to conclusions" But even if she is this will not change anything. Instead it will make it so much easier for us to proceed as she will also know about the coming apocalypse. Now he didn't have to struggle to come up with a explanation for all that he was doing and going to do in the near future.
"I just wonder, is Emilia reborn from my world or is it a completely different world altogether, just like Ling Qin, another parrallel world."
