"We're moving to S City!?"Ling Xiao asked her.
"Mhm" she hummed lowly as she looked at him for his reaction no longer as excited as before.
"Wow" Ling Xiao said as he exchanged looks with Ling Qin again.
"It's not going to be a problem right?" Emilia asked carefully. She knew that since he was now her husband that she should not make these Kind of decisions on her own but she wasn't able to afford a compromise on this matter though.
Even if he was to get mad at her now he should understand why she did it later on when the apocalypse started. At least she hoped he would.
As for now she would need to think of a way to placate him.
Ling Xiao just looked at her waiting for her to continue
"If we move over to s city it would be a great chance for all of us to develop. In S city not only will Ling Qin get access to some of the best education resources available in the country but you would also be closer to the base and won't have to drive for long distances every time you need to return. It would make it easier for you to react when there is an emergency. Plus Grandpa is in S city too right so us moving there would make it easier to visit and taking care of him. See everyone is able to benefit from this move not only myself. It a win-win situation for us all is it not." Emilia quickly said trying to convince Ling Xiao,though looking at his silent reaction Emilia's hope began to dwindle and her voice softening .
She just hoped it was good enough to convince him. "Plus.. Plus I'm not trying to override you here it's just that I've been preparing for this move for eight months now.Way before we met.Even the house has been prepared. I just didn't tell you anything because I wasn't sure whether the transfer would be approved or not that's all."Emilia pouted aggrieved.
"Ok ok I'm not mad"Ling Xiao sighed and said quickly when he saw she was misunderstanding him.
He wasn't against them moving at all since that was what Ling Qin and him had been discussing earlier. This transfer could be regarded as a pie falling from the sky. Now he didn't need to lie to her to get her to move to S City with him and abandon everything she has worked hard to build in the last six years.
This transfer solved all the problems. Timely rain indeed. At least it wasn't a transfer to somewhere else or that would really be a problem.
"Really?!" Emilia perked up and looked at him with stars in her eyes.
"Yes really" he said indulgently "moving to S City really is convenient."
"Great" Emilia was immediately rejuvenated and she clapped her hands"
' Great everything worked out.' She thought to herself.
Right as she was about to start eating she looked up and met Ling Qin's burning gaze. That's when she realised that she hadn't gotten Ling Qin's opinion yet. Silently putting down her utensils Emilia looked straight at him and asked him carefully.
"Little Qin do you want to move to S City or would you like to stay."
Ling Qin was already mad with joy earlier when he heard that they were moving to S City. He was happy that things worked out without him having to do anything at all. He didn't even care that the two of them just settled and discussed everything without asking him but the fact that his mom still asked him even though she didn't need to made him even more happy and satisfied.
It showed that his mom didn't treat him like a three year old anymore and actually asked him for what he wanted.
"I don't mind" Ling Qin replied "I don't have a problem with moving"
"Really but what about your friends? Aren't you unhappy that you won't see them again." Emilia asked him
'Why would he be sad. He already didn't see most of them for close to six years so he didn't really care much about them. The only one that he cared about , Blake would be heading to the capital this weekend to visit his Grandparents and would stay there for a week. Once the lockdown started Blake was already in a safe place since his his grandparents lived in a military compound so when all hell broke loose he was in a relatively safe place ensuring his survival. As a matter of fact Ling Qin had met Blake again four years after the apocalypse when he went to the capital base with his father and he seemed to be doing well.
"Of course I would" he paused before he continued "but I could always talk to them on the phone. Plus S City is just an hour drive from here so I could always come to visit them if he I miss them. Mom don't worry."
"Ok come on let's eat before the food gets cold." Ling Xiao said interrupting
"We can talk about this tomorrow."
"Mhm let's eat" Emilia hummed. "Here have some" Emilia said placing some chicken into Ling Xiao's bowl and some pork into Ling Qin's bowl.
"Thanks mom" Ling Qin said digging in.
Ling Xiao: "Thank you"
Once they were done eating Ling Xiao went to wash the dishes and Ling Qin helped Emilia clean up.
Once done the family gathered in the living room to discuss the next step.
"So when are you expected to report in at S City" Ling Xiao asked his wife.
"Um ... On Monday"Emilia responded a little hesitantly.
"Monday!! That's three days from now. We don't even have a place to live, or is that covered by the company as well."Ling Xiao exclaimed
"No it's not"Emilia responded
"We don't? Can't we just live in your house. You know the one you lived in before you moved here." Ling Qin asked his dad
"No I lived in a bachelor pad before and it's way too small to fit all of us and our things." Ling Xiao said
Ling Qin : "Ohhh"
"But I guess we can stay there for a while before I sort it out. I should be able to get a house fast enough if I talk to my contacts."Ling Xiao said right after, exchanging looks with Ling Qin, obviously thinking the same thing.
They could just go to his bachelor pad and stay there for a while while he arranges for them to move into the safe house he has been preparing as their new home. That way not only will they leave this city but they would also be moving directly to the safe house and would not have to work on fixing up the new places security and it will make it easier for him to explain why the safe house is so fortified since he could just say that it was a military house that he got through his contacts.
"Oh that's perfect then" Ling Qin immediately agreed.
"Uh actually you guys don't need to stress so much about the house actually. It's already been prepared." Emilia said to the two who had already begun their moving plans on their own.
"Ahh what now" Ling Xiao asked his wife
"The house has already been prepared so you guys don't need to stress about it."Emilia repeated herself
"I thought you said that the company is not going to offer housing ?" Ling Qin asked his Mon bewildered.
"Of course it's not" Emilia said taking hold of the pillow and hugging it. Seeing the two similar faces staring at her waiting for an explanation Emilia grinned and explained.
"Well when I applied for the transfer to S City I went ahead and bought a house. I figured that once I got transferred there we could stay in our own house that side unlike having to just rent some dingy apartment so I bought a house and furnished it. And even if I didn't get the transfer I was already on the hunt for jobs in S City. So we were goner relocate there sooner or later so buying the house was a fixed issue."
"Seriously?!" Ling Qin asked
"Yep" she replied
"Wait when did you do all this?" Ling Xiao asked her
"Um I actually came from inspecting the finished house four months ago. The day before you came to us." Emilia responded to Ling Xiao. "If you had come even a week later you wouldn't have found us as we would have already moved away by then. But moving has just been delayed that's all."
"This..."Ling Xiao didn't know what to say.
Ling Xiao and Ling Qin were both silent for a while not knowing what to say. At first they thought that they had the house all figured out but now things were complicated again. What if the house she arranged was in a busy area or the city centre. Those were high risk areas which they could not afford to go to right now. There was only about a few more days left before the apocalypse and they didn't have time to fortify the new house at all. Did they really have to come out to her about the truth
"Um mom this new house that you bought where is it exactly?" Ling Qin asked his mom a little anxiously.
"Oh the house. It's in this relatively new villa district in S City. The place is a little far from the city centre but close enough to a number of shops. There is a school not to far from it about fifteen minute drive. Oh and it's relatively close to S City's military base. So that's convenient right." Emilia began pratling on.
"Just look at this"Emilia said quickly opening her laptop and showing them the website of the villa area. "Isn't this a great place for raising a family. She looked at them eagerly waiting for praise."
Ling Xiao and Ling Qin were speechless. Emilia had been taking them on a rollercoaster ride. When they thought their plans were ruined, her decisions coincidental completed their plan for them. The two didn't know what to feel at this moment.
"What you guys dont like the place" Emilia asked the boys once she realised that they were being awfully quite.
"No its great!" Ling Xiao said
"Yeah lovely!"Ling win followed.
"That good I thought you two wouldn't like it. Either way we can just move in there Sunday and if you guys don't really like the place then we can talk about moving next month. For now we will just have to make do since its all we have ." Emilia dispiritadley said though in her mind she was laughing gleefully. The apocalypse was about to begin ahh. They wouldn't make it next month. 'She is such a genius' she laughed to herself.
Ling Xiao and Ling Qins lips twitched as they looked at the gleeful woman who was trying to act pitiful. Even an idiot could see she wasn't sad at all. But even if they knew she was faking they couldn't do anything about it at all but still had to coax her.
"Well since everything's already in place over there then we can use tomorrow to sort out the things here and then we'll move over on Saturday." Ling Xiao said
"Alright then Saturday it is!" Emilia responded cheerfully.
"Ok then since that's sorted out its time for Qiqi to go to bed now. Growing boys need lots of sleep if they want to be tall." Emilia gestured for Ling Qin to get up and go to sleep after she caught a quick glimpse of the time.
"Right it is time for bed. We've got a busy day tomorrow so it's best if we get some good sleep." Ling Xiao follow after agreeing with Emilia but also reminding Ling Qin to get enough sleep so that his mind won't be too strained when they collected the rest of the items into the space the next day.
"Mhm Goodnight"Ling Qin said as he stood up and headed upstairs.
Ling Xiao and Emilia : "Night"
Ling Xiao : "We should also go to sleep as well now" he said looking at Emilia
"Mhm alright let's go" she yawned and stood up following after Ling Qin.
Ling Xiao switched off the lights and followed after her. The house plunging into darkness as the inhibitans all went to sleep waiting for the sun to rise again.
