Triiiiiiing!!!!
Shocked awake by the alarm clock, Emilia immediately sits up and reaches for her gun that stays under her pillow as she vigilantly looks around the room. Only for her to realize that there is no gun under her pillow and no zombies anywhere in site. After a minute of recollecting herself and staring at the familiar yet unfamiliar bedroom, only then did Emilia come to realize that she was no longer living in the apocalypse.
"Right ha, I'm back." She says as she lets out a light chuckle. "At least I know my vigilance hasn't decreased."
she mutters under her breath as she gets out of bed and heads to open the curtains. Opening up the curtains and looking out Emilia sighs at the scene before her.
"It really is a depressing feeling knowing that there would be no sunrise in just a few year's time."
One sign that reminded you on a daily basis that you were living in the apocalypse was the heavy smog that blocked out the sun once the end times began. During those dark days the only presence of the sun that could be felt or seen was the small amount of light that passed through the dense fog as well as the heat that the sun brought about.
Remembering the sun also made it hard for her to forget the difficulties that came with the sun's disappearance. The sun's disappearance did not only make it hard for one tell the difference between night and day , it also made it harder for people to grow food. It is common knowledge to know that for plants to grow they need sunlight so without the sunlight plants could not grow. That added to the fact that most of the soil and water was contaminated with the virus did not make it any easier.
"Ha whatever, even without the sun this time with my experience it won't be too hard to survive." Emilia stated as she walked towards the the bathroom to begin getting ready for her first day at work after almost an entire 6 years of absence.
She wasn't just exaggerating by saying that she actually had a way to bypass the sun this time around. About half a year after the disappearance of the sun a group of scientist had publicised a way to grow all sorts of vegetables without the use of solar energy.
Though this study wasn't a new one, it wasn't so popular before the end of times, since more people were more focused on how good the food tasted and not how it was grown. But after the apocalypse everyone learnt how to grow plants using soilless cultivation and LED lights in replacement of the sun. This was the only choice since food was scarce back then and you couldn't get your hands on it even if you bad the money to buy it so growing your own food was more reliable.
After freshening up and getting ready Emilia walked across the hall to wake up Qin Lu before she moved down to make breakfast.
After quietly knocking Emilia walked towards the bed in the middle of the room to wake up little Qin.
While she was gazing at that small and delicate face of her son an image of a pale blue green Qin Lu oozing black blood from his stomach moved to the front of her mind. It was an image that had stayed with her for the rest of her days during the apocalypse.
"Don't worry baby," she whispered while softly stroking his hair "Mommy won't let anything happen to you this time around. NOTHING will happen to you!"
'aghh' groaned Qin Lu as he slowely opened his eyes. The first thing that came into view was his mom who was looking down at him .
" Morning baby Qin"
"Hmm morning mom."
"Come on you've gotta get up and get ready for school. I'm going to make breakfast so hurry on up, we don't want you getting sick from eating cold food."
Emilia gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before she left the room to go make breakfast.
After staring at the roof for another two minutes, Qin Lu got up and went to go get ready. Once he was done he slowly walked downstairs. Before even reaching the kitchen he could already smell the rich aroma of the food . Slowly advancing to the dining room he could already see his mom busting around in the kitchen. A warm and sour feeling spread through his heart.
"Oh Little Qin your done, wait just two minutes and I'll be right there with you" shouted Emilia from the kitchen once she spotted Qin Luke the dining room. After saying her piece she immediate got back to what she was doing .
Qin Lu moved towards the table and on it was a full spread of his favorite dishes . That itchy feeling from before came back
"Ok. Let's eat!" declared Emilia once she had carried the last two dishes on to the table. Sitting down opposite Qin Lu she immediately began eating.
After a minute she realised that Qin Lu hadn't begun eating yet. Looking at him puzzled she asked quizzically.
"What is the food not to your taste. Is mom's food not tasty."
Looking at his mom's wronged face Qin Lu immediately broke out of his daze and lifted up his chopsticks. After stuffing some food in his mouth he immediately responded " What no, mom's food is always the best, the most delicious!"
"Hmmf good you know!" Emilia responded. For a minute there she thought she had forgotten what Qin Lu's favorite food was, after all she hadn't cooked for him in almost 7 years.
Looking at his mom's slight pout and her tsundere attitude ,Qin Lu couldn't help but smile.
Once they had finished eating the bus had also just arrived.
"Ok baby you have a good day at school ,eat all your lunch and I'll see you after work ok." Emilia said after quickly grabbing Qin Lu's bad and stuffing lunch in there.
"Ohh and here take this and buy whatever you want." Emilia generously stated as she gave him R1000 . Emilia was feeling generous, plus it's not like money would still be of use in a years of time so she decided to let Qin Lu enjoy life as much as he could during this year so that there would be no regrets once the apocalypse starts.
"Bye Qin Qin" said Emilia
"Bye Mom."
Emilia watched as Qin Lu walked towards the door. Right as she was about to turn around to head back insside to get her bag so she can head out for work. She was caught by surprise when Qin Lu suddenly charged back inside and threw himself into her embrace.
Wrapping her arms bewildered around Qin Lu she asked "Whoa is everything ok little Qin"
"Ya everything's ok... Mom have I ever told you that I love you."
Emilia was immediately shocked into tears. Her eyes became moist but she held back her tears." NoI don't believe you have" she chocked out.
Because Qin Lu grew up too quickly he was usually quiet and had a cold temperate so it had been quite a while since she had heard those words. You could imagine how shocked and happy she was to hear those words.
"Well then I love you Mom!" Qin Lu said smiling brightly at his mom.
"Mmh . Mom loves you most." Emilia immediately responded. Right after she said that they heard the horn sound of the bus. "You should go let's not delay the others" Emilia smiled as she spoke slighty pushing him forward.
"Ok bye mom." Qin Lu shouted as he rushed towards the bus.
"Bye little Qin" Emilia responded. Once she saw him board the bus and it began to move she finally went back inside to grab her things and then headed towards work.
Back on the bus while staring at the disappearing view of the house, Qin Lu let out a bright smile as he lightly chuckled to himself.
"Mom I'm back!"
