Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

Prince Conrad's POV

"Alpha, several rogues crossed the border in the east." Odin, my Beta, said through the mind link. I opened my eyes and looked straight at the wall clock. It's just four in the morning, and this bad news greeted him. I sighed and looked at my wife, who is sleeping so soundly. How could she sleep like this every fcking night beside me? Life is unfair. She has no idea how she affects me. I don't know how I got to restrain myself every fcking night. Damn it! "Alpha?" I heard Odin called my attention again because I was not responding. I kissed my wife on her forehead and smelled her addicting smell before getting up.

"I'll be there in fifteen." I answered him. It's been two weeks since we came back from her home. Every fcking day I woke so early in the morning while my wife is still asleep then I got home so fcking late when my wife is already sleeping. All of this mess was because of rogues who are crossing the borders and attack our pack land. The same scenario was happening as well to the neighboring packs.

We, Alphas of our respective packs, decided to strengthen our defense against these rogues. Odin, Leo, and I train our pack warriors at daylight, and we patrol the whole kingdom every night. I'm busy, and my wolf keeps on nagging me to see our mate. I'd love to do that, but I have to make sure she, our family and our pack members are always safe. I have to endure this feeling of wanting her by my side every fcking second.

"Woke up on the wrong side of the bed?" Odin teased me when we met at the east border.

"Fck you! I can't even sleep!" I growled at him. Leo was laughing beside him.

"Claim her already!" Leo shouted. Since my wolf was annoyed and irritated these past few weeks, he snapped. He took control and shifted into a wolf, and he pinned down Leo as he growled at him loudly. Leo's joke got my wolf's nerve. I don't even have the strength to restrain him because that's what I am doing since I met my wife. "A-Alpha…" Leo called out.

"Alpha, please calm down. He was just teasing you." I heard Odin's voice. I let go of Leo, and I faced him. I growled at him furiously as well before I shifted back into human form. "Please accept our apology, Alpha, your highness." Odin said, begging in his knees.

I sighed, and I walked towards the border. I sensed that they followed me. "Let's get this over with. I need a two-day break from this mess. Odin, take over starting tomorrow. Leo, supervise the training of the pack warriors." I ordered them.

"Yes, Alpha." They both answered.

We found our pack warriors on fight with the rogues not more than twenty. It is a large number of rogues for this daylight attack. Something suspicious is going on. Maybe someone is ordering them to do this. I mind link Odin and Leo to shift and finish the fight as soon as possible. I still have paper works to do at the office.

When we're in wolf form already, we attacked the remaining wolves. I howled at full volume that made my prey stopped and looked at me. As they laid their eyes on me, they started to walk backward to escape. As they stepped backward, I stepped closer to them. How brave are they to try to attack our kingdom? My wolf grins deadly at rogue wolves that made them shiver in fear. I took a quick leap and pinned them one by one as I ripped their throat out. I took another deadly quick leap to another and killed it without mercy.

I looked around and saw Odin, Leo, and my pack warriors do their tasks. A few minutes later, all of the rogue wolves were dead. "Clean up this mess!" I told them through the mind link. "Odin, send a message to all the Alphas that we were under attack today with the details of their numbers." I ordered him.

"I will, Alpha." He answered. I walked over the rogues' dead body, not even dumping a single glance.

After running from the east border to our pack land, I got a quick shower before heading to my office inside my packhouse. I need to get this over with as quickly as possible, so I could go home to my wife. I don't like the idea that Connor and Colten got to spend more time with her than me, her husband. The thought gave us frustration, and my wolf growled at me. I cannot help it. The mate pull is getting stronger as time passes by.

Connor told me that my wife spends her time at the library reading about the werewolf. She's really interested to know our kind. However, I know she thinks that werewolf is fiction like what I told her. I don't know what gotten into me to tell her that werewolf is not real, but the truth is I want her to know our kind, her husband's kind. I need to tell her the truth as soon as possible. Those rogues might take advantage of her being a human and attack her.

After few hours of working, I was disturbed by a sudden knock on the door. "Come in." I said while my eyes were still fixated on the documents I was reviewing.

"Here's your juice, Alpha." That voice made me looked at her for a second.

"I did not ask for juice, Thalia. Get out and don't disturb me." I said without looking at her.

"Sorry to disturb you, but at least drink this juice that I made for you." She said. "Your wife must be very busy, so I am here to take care of you." Her words made me stopped from what I am doing. I massage my temple as I got a sudden headache by just hearing her voice. I regret claiming her as my mate. That was the biggest mistake I have made so far.

"You don't have the right to talk about my wife and to take care of me, Thalia. You are just one of my pack members; always remember that." I said as I growled at her. She stepped back as she sensed fear.

"What are you saying, Alpha? What about our secret relationship?" She said nervously while smiling. My eyes widen in disbelief.

"What did you just say? Are you insane?!" I yelled furiously at her.

"I'm not! We talked about it the last time we had sex!" She shouted as I looked at him angrily. "You had sex with me on your wedding anniversary, remember?" She asked as her lips formed into a crooked smile. Her words slowly sinking into my head. "I agreed to share you with your wife." She added.

That night, I woke up beside her, but I don't remember how I ended up having sex with her. When I got dressed, I ran home to apologize to my wife, but I found her unconscious. Connor said that she felt pain all over her body while waiting for me to return home and celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Guilt welled up inside me.

"No!" I yelled at her angrily. "You're not my mistress, and I don't fcking want you! That will never happen to us again, do you understand?! I love my wife, and I won't dare cheat on her! Get lost!" I snapped at her. I ran out of the packhouse and ran straight to the castle.

My mind was a mess, and my wolf keeps on barking, howling, and growling in my head. He's furious as hell. He wants to return to our packhouse and kill Thalia. I stopped him, and the desire to hug my wife is stronger than to waste my time on her.
