Chris was leaning on the outside wall when she saw Zeven fly past her. "I'm right here." She called out to him, her voice was dry, unfeeling.
He stopped in his tracks, he had truly expected her to be halfway gone by now. He was still furious, but not so much at Chris. He took a deep breath and calmed himself as best he could, before taking a step in her direction.
Zeven slowly started to close the distance between the two of them, he held his hands up in a gesture that showed he meant no harm "Would you believe that-" "Don't. There is nothing you can say." Chris made no effort to run, instead she just looked up at him with cold eyes.
He knew that she had figured out that her father had all but abandoned her, at the same time, he figured that if the roles were reversed he would want to know the details as well. He exhaled loudly, there was no point in diverting the conversation, nor prolonging it any further. "I sent out a ransom letter, and your father has refused my offer. In addition, the fact that you are here has been withheld from your people as well. I assume that they believe you to be in the palace recovering from battle… I do not know what else to say…" He trailed off. Using his words to comfort people was not something that he was used to doing. "I'm sure that my father wouldn't have come for me either."
"It's fine, I'll get out of this on my own. Only princesses get rescued from their towers. Princes have to find their own way down. " "That's bullshit, and you know it. Parents should come for their kids." Zeven's quiet voice was honest, and gentle. He looked over to Chris who was staring out at the horizon.
She kept her gaze away from his face and kept her face out to the trees. A heavy hand clamped onto her shoulder, it was intended to be a comforting gesture. It gave her enough strength to try and talk, "So we both have pretty shitty fathers, huh?" It was meant to come out with humor but the joke fell flat and she felt the hand on her shoulder squeeze her tighter. "Don't worry about it too much, you'll find a solution or... I may just have to marry you." She scrunched her nose, letting him know how she felt about that idea. If she needed someone else to help her forget her father's cruelty than Zeven was more than willing to oblige. He reached out and tousled her hair before standing up. Chris stayed seated as he took his time popping his neck and stretching, when he realized she didn't intend to follow him he looked back down at her. "Come on, let's get back inside."
"If I promise not to run, can I stay out here a little longer?"
"Do what you need to do. I'll see you in a bit."
