Upon waking, Senani said farewell to Fred and ventured back to the cave with Bear and Wolf. The trio began making their way towards Fred's farm. As they were still in the woods, they maintained a cautious pace on the way. Once they arrived close enough to see the farm Senani received a new notification.
Quest Received. Eliminate the pack of wolves and enter a Covenant with the pack leader. Reward: 5 acres of Land Grant. 0/10 wolves remaining. Pack Leader Covenant not yet in place.
Senani relayed the information for the quest to Bear and Wolf. They then crept closer to the farm, looking for wolves along the path. Senani readied his crossbow. His eyes darting across the land in anticipation of the battle that was yet to come. As the trio got closer to the farm, they began to hear the roars of a bull and the sounds of battle. The trio continued to move closer and closer.
When they were 30 feet away, they could clearly see the battle. There were 4 wolves standing over a black bull with white spots. The massive bull was on the ground and Senani could not tell if it were alive or dead. Another wolf lay near the bull. It was breathing but shallowly. He lowered his crossbow and took aim. He fired at the closest wolf. Hitting it directly between the eyes. 1/10 wolves killed.
When the wolf fell, the rest of the pack charged at the trio. Bear intercepted one, ripping out its throat. 2/10 Wolves killed. "Congratulations, you have reached level 2. You have received the skill System Stone Alignment Change. System Stone Alignment Change: Change the alignment of a selected system stone in your inventory. The stone cannot be in use by a being." Wolf jumped between Senani and the other two wolves, swiping them with its strong massive paws. In one swipe he managed to break the neck of both. 3/10 killed. 4/10 killed. Senani reloaded his crossbow and placed it on his back. He pulled out his hunting knife and moved to the remaining wolf. He then slit its throat and put it out of its misery. 5/10 killed. In a matter of a minute, half the wolf pack was slain.
Senani then placed his hand on the bull to see if it was alive. He received a notification. "Do you wish to activate a Death Bed Covenant with the unknown Bull?" Yes or No.
Senani chose Yes and the bull stood up ready for another battle. It spoke to Senani telepathically. "I do not know how you managed to save me, but I appreciate it. I am called Kaz. If you allow me to live and do not turn me into steak, I will stand by your side and protect you until the day I die. It will be my honor to defend you. I only ask that you allow me to get revenge on the remaining wolves."
Senani replied, "It is good to meet you Kaz. I am called Senani. You will be allowed to kill any but the pack leader. The pack leader you may critically injure. Do you know where the remaining wolves are?"
Kaz said, "I heard the sheep bellowing before I was attacked. That would be a good place to start."
Senani touched each of the wolf's bodies and sent them to his Land Grant. He then continued to the area Kaz had described. When Senani got within view of the sheep lot he could see many corpses of the sheep. None were left alive. The wolves were moving toward the house. Senani could see a much larger wolf in the front leading them. This had to be the pack leader.
Senani ordered his minions telepathically. Bear was to go to the left, Kaz to the right, and Wolf would go down the center. Senani then lowered his crossbow and took aim at the Pack Leader. He shot it in the spine before the rest of the wolves could even turn around to address the animals running toward them. All three hit the wolves at the same time. Bear ripped out the throat of the wolf on the left. 6/10 wolves killed. Kaz speared the one of them right through the head with his horns. 7/10 wolves killed. Wolf swiped at the remaining two wolves with his paws. He connected with one breaking its neck. 8/10 wolves killed. The other attempted to run away. It was suddenly stopped by Kaz and Bear. All exits were blocked. Kaz speared it through the back hip with his horns. Bear bit down on his front legs, and Wolf swiped it in the head breaking its neck. 9/10 wolves killed.
Once the wolves were dealt with, Senani moved to the pack leader. It tried to move but it could not. The crossbow bolt had broken its spine and paralyzed it. Senani touched it. "Do you wish to activate a Death Bed Covenant with the unnamed Wolf Pack Leader?" Yes or No.
Senani chose Yes and completed his mission. The Wolf Pack Leader accepted and Senani received another notification. "Do you wish to place the Wolf Pack Leader under the authority of Bear?" Yes or No. Senani of course chose Yes. That is one less minion he would have to worry about. He then transferred all the dead animals to his Land Grant.
"Quest Completed, Reward Granted."
"Congratulations, you have unlocked the secret skill Animal Evolution."
Animal Evolution: This skill allows all animals that have signed a Covenant to evolve over time. This will increase intelligence and may change the physical characteristics or even the race of the animals.
Rikki-Tiki then spoke to Senani. "The Wolf Pack Leader you have just placed under Bear has its own system. It can invite other wolves it encounters to its pack. It can also challenge and defeat other Wolf Pack Leaders to absorb the wolves into its pack once the rival leaders are defeated. You have also made Bear an Alpha wolf and the pack will follow her without question. This also means that Bear can challenge other Alpha wolves to claim their packs. This should greatly increase her strength and that of the army you seem to be building."
Bear then spoke to her new Wolf Pack Leader. "What is your name?"
The Wolf Pack Leader responded, "My name is Maverick. The den of the pack I belonged to lives to the east of this farm. The Alpha is incredibly strong. If you were able to defeat him, I am sure the others would join you."
Bear told Senani about the pack. Senani found this extremely interesting. After all, he could use an army to help him level and claim a place in the real world.
For now, though, Senani chose to walk to the farmhouse and touch the side of the building. As Fred had signed a Covenant with Senani, Senani received a prompt, "Do you wish to move the items, buildings, and creatures on the property Fred owns to your land grant?" Yes or No."
Senani chose yes and moved the entire farm next to his own. He then closed his eyes and pictured his Land Grant. He and all his creatures then teleported to the Land Grant.
Upon arriving, Fred was shocked to see a new wolf and one of his bulls following Senani.
Senani said, "Fred move into your farmhouse. Then choose an acre of land and pile up the bodies of the dead things that I teleport into here. Separate them by type and take anything that could be used from the bodies and leave the rest."
Fred Responded, "I will do as you ask. Thank you for your generosity. I will need help to take care of all the land that you have. 7 acres is too much for one person to manage alone."
Senani said, "I will look for more people to help you on the farm. For now, we can catch up the work together. I will stay for a month so that we can get the farm in order before I travel again."
The following month was pleasant for everyone. The animals enjoyed the food and freedom to travel the land in the Land Grant. Fred enjoyed having the extra help and Senani enjoyed the familiar work. After a month, Senani and the animals he had contracted prepared to leave. Senani closed his eyes and the group left to where Fred's farm had previously been.
