Chapter 16 - Perfect (Red Hood x Female Reader)

Prompt: Songfiction "Perfect" by Selena Gomez

"Different inflection when you say my name

Kiss me, but your kiss don't taste the same

Is it real or am I going out of my mind?"

As the months went by you saw it more and more. The fire that once burned in his eyes whenever he looked at you somehow vanished in smoke. The stolen kisses shared before he'd depart to protect the innocent grew void of passion. The way his arms wrapped around you when you slept started to feel like a straight jacket; Tight and uncomfortable. You just decided to ignore it. After all, he wouldn't leave you...would he?

"I can taste her lipstick and see her laying across your chest

I can feel the distance every time you remember her fingertips

Maybe I should be more like her

Maybe I should be more like her

I can taste her lipstick, it's like I'm kissing her, too

And she's perfect

And she's perfect"

When Jason came home from patrol one night, you greeted him how you always did; A gentle embrace. He responded, but he seemed so unusually distant.

...That's when you smelled it; Perfume. The strong scent of lavender and honey flooded your nose. You knew it wasn't yours.

Still, like a fool in love you just brushed it aside. Your lips met his, and for a single moment, you thought everything would be alright.

But then you tasted it. The revolting flavor of wax, followed by a hint of black cherry. Lipstick. Again, it wasn't yours.

Jason continued to kiss you, and something inside you shattered. It felt like you were kissing her. In the back of your mind, you secretly imagined "She must be perfect if she can take him away..."

"How does she touch you? Can I try it, too?

I know you're twisted, but baby, I'm twisted, too

I wanna know how she could make a man lose his mind"

You remember that terrible fight. All the truths revealed and tears spilled.

You decided to confront him. You knew it was a terrible idea, considering he was exhausted from the night's work. But you knew that the game had to end. You were tired of being lied to. Tired of feeling like the barrier between him and this extraordinary woman.

What crushed you is that he didn't try to deny it. When you told him all you knew, his face fell in shame but he shook his head, indicating to you he did do it.

You screamed at the top of your lungs, begging to know why you weren't good enough. He didn't have an answer. When you told him that you wished you could've been more like her, it finished him. Tears fell from his own eyes. He knew he had wronged you and broken your trust. There was nothing more to be said.

That night you slept at your friend's house. She held you as you cried the night away. When dawn arrived, you cursed his name. He was most likely with her. Holding her like he once held you. Loving her like he once loved you.

One day though, if you meet again, he'll see you with someone you love more than life itself. You'll be the perfect one then. He'll have to lay awake every night thinking about how the truly perfect woman is the one he lost...
