Chapter 19 - Daddy's Girl (Jason Todd x Female Reader)

Prompt: You and Jason have a happy, beautiful baby girl. When you leave for work, what do the two of them get up to when you're not home?

Key: (Y/N) = Your Name, (D/N) = Daughter's name

You emerge from the steaming bathroom with a crimson towel wrapped snugly around your waist. You tip-toe into the adjoining master bedroom, expecting to see your husband Jason sleeping soundly. Surprisingly, the bed is empty.

Suddenly, you hear the closing of cupboard doors followed by a shrill giggle. You smile warmly and laugh to yourself. "I guess the little princess is awake too."

After changing into a collared sweater, black skinny jeans, and black flats, you skip into the kitchen. Jason is leaning against the island with a coffee mug in hand. Dark circles hang under his eyes and he appears irritable.

"What's the matter, babe?" you ask sympathetically.

Jason groans in response. "I could be out riding dirtbikes with Roy right now, but no. I'm stuck here playing daddy daycare." He motions with his head to the little body sitting in the red highchair a few feet away.

Your 4-month-old daughter, (D/N), stares happily at the pair of you. You smile back as you admire your beautiful baby girl. She's the spitting image of Jason, with forest green eyes and wavy black hair. She may be too young to choose a favorite parent, but she is her daddy's girl through and through.

"Right," you reply sarcastically. "Now you understand how Roy felt when he had to stay home with Lian and you were out doing fun things."

"Ya...karma's a bi-"

"Jason! Not in front of (D/N)!"

(D/N) merely giggles and bangs her chubby fist on the table. You walk over and tickle her chin. "Yeah, you tell him, princess! Say, "No cursing, Daddy! One day, I might start repeating!'"

Jason rolls his eyes. "Don't you have to go to work?"

"Yes, I'm going! Stay out of trouble," you say, giving him a quick peck on the lips.

"Not possible," he replies with a wink.

After kissing your daughter's head, you grab your bag and head out the door. Jason peeks around the wall, watching you leave. When you're finally gone, he springs up from the counter and looks mischievously at (D/N).

"When the cat's away, the mice will play...isn't that right, princess?"

(D/N) gurgles and smiles at Jason.

...

When you arrive at work, you're immediately overwhelmed by your over-controlling boss.

"(Y/N)! You're late! These papers needed to be sent to the tech lab fifteen minutes ago!"

"Mr. Herman, I'm twenty minutes ear--."

You're interrupted by Mr. Herman pushing a large stack of paper into your arms. "Does it look like I care?! Get moving!"

"Yes, sir!" you reply, frantically entering the elevator. You fumble as you reach for the first-floor button and the stack of paper slips from your arms and spills all over the floor. You groan in frustration and stamp your foot.

"Could this day start any worse?!" you ask aloud, attempting to clean up the papers. To your absolute dismay, they were numbered and sorted by date.

"Should've worked at Wayne Enterprises..." you mumble.

...

After bathing his daughter and dressing her in a lady-bug onesie, Jason carries (D/N) into the living room and places her securely in her bouncy chair. She giggles and swings her little feet in the air, narrowly missing Jason's face.

"Whoa! Someone's practicing their kicks! Are you gonna grow up and be a vigilante just like daddy?" Jason asks in his baby-voice. "No, you're never gonna grow up...Daddy won't let you. You're gonna stay his little peanut forever! And if any boy in the world thinks he can take my little peanut away, I'm gonna shoot him the face and throw his body in the harbor...yes I am..."

Jason is interrupted by the high-pitched ring of the phone. (D/N)'s eyes widen in shock before her face scrunches and her lip folds under.

"No no no!" Jason says, trying frantically to calm his daughter but to no avail. Tears run down her chubby cheeks and she lets out an ear-piercing cry.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Jason curses. He gets up and forcefully rips the phone from the machine. "What?!"

"Relax, it's just me," Roy Harper says from the other end of the phone. "I hear crying in the background...everything okay over there?"

"Well, it was until you had to pick up the f**king phone! Now I'll never get her to calm down!"

"Oh...you're watching (D/N) today! I guess that means dirt biking is off..."

"You think?!" Jason sneers.

"You know Jay, I would feel bad for you, but this is kind of payback. All those times you went out and I had to watch Lian... now you're the one staying home playing papa bear."

"You know, (Y/N) was just saying that this morning..." Jason says thoughtfully.

"Funny how things work out, isn't it?"

"Yeah, what goes around comes around. Now, can I please ask what the hell you want?"

"I've been waiting at the track for an hour! I thought you were coming out. I guess my question got answered."

"Sorry, man. We'll have to do it this weekend or something."

"That's okay. See ya, Jay. Have fun with...whatever is happening in your world."

"Thanks, Harper."

Jason hangs up the phone and rushes back over to his daughter, who is still bawling.

"Come on, don't do this to me! Daddy doesn't like it when you cry!"

She only responds with more tears. Jason sighs and briefly contemplates a solution. As his eyes travel around the room, he sees his red helmet peeking out of his equipment bag.

"Bingo," he says as he races to grab it. He slips it over his head and sits down in front of (D/N).

"Hey, (D/N)! Look at Daddy! Where'd Daddy go?!" He presses the button on the side of his hood and the mask springs open. "Peek-a-boo!"

(D/N)'s cries cease, her eyes go wide, and she bursts with laughter.

"Yes!" Jason says with delight. "Red Hood never fail me!"

8 hours later...

You lazily make your way down the hall of your apartment lobby to your front door. Today like many days at the office was exhausting. Your boss had you performing the twelve labors of Hercules, you had mountains of paperwork to sort through and, on top of it all, they were serving (insert least favorite food) in the cafeteria. You can only hope that Jason managed to keep the house in order and keep (D/N) alive. He usually manages, but not without complaint.

You enter the apartment expecting to see the place in utter chaos, yet you find it spotless. All of (D/N)'s toys are put back in the bins and you see (D/N) is sleeping peacefully in her crib through the baby monitor camera. You peer into the kitchen and see Jason pulling dinner out of the oven.

"Hey...how's my little housewife?" you ask cheerfully.

Jason smiles. "Haha, very funny."

"You love it, though," you say playfully hitting his arm. "You cooked dinner too?"

"I figured I might as well do something since Giggles is asleep."

"You did good, babe. Maybe I can... give you a little reward later," you say, toying with the hem of his t-shirt. He kisses you sweetly on the lips.

"By reward, do you mean you'll let me go dirt biking with Roy this weekend?"

You shake your head and sigh. "Yeah, Jay...that's exactly what I meant."
