Sheila and Cesar were stunned that they stopped their mad dash. They could not believe that the young Alterer was capable of defeating a stage 2 Wind Wolf just like that.
It was only a month when they met Yeshua and if they remembered correctly he was still at Stage one of Level one at that time.
The other Wind Wolves also stopped. They suddenly felt the danger coming from Yeshua. They growled at Yeshua as they walked slowly surrounding him.
Yeshua was confident. Though there were two Level 1 Stage 3 Wind Wolves in the wolf pack, he felt that he could still manage with his elite rank strength. Despite being only at Stage 3, his strength almost reached Level 1 Stage 5.
These Wind Wolves had a great flaw and that was their poor defense. They could contest with Yeshua with their speed but Yeshua could tear them apart easily.
Even though there were still four blue Wind Wolves trying to surround him, Yeshua was sure that he could deal with the Level 1 Stage 3 wolves let alone the Stage 2 Wind Wolves.
"Heh, I don't want to meddle with your hunt but I know these hunters. If I could help, then I would try to help." Yeshua murmured like he was trying to convince himself.
Yeshua's personality would not let himself be put to risk. But remembering the help of the hunters to him as well as his capability to help them, Yeshua decided to help.
Yeshua then attacked the other Stage 2 wolf. The blue wolves sensed his intent to attack, so they also pounced at him. Yeshua and the four wolves clashed.
After several flashes of light and explosions of the air, a wolf head flew away separating from its body. Blood fountain showered the place as the four wolves became three. Though he was not free from injuries, Yeshua killed another Stage 2 wolf.
By this time, Sheila and Cesar recovered from their shock. But instead of being thoroughly glad, worry still clouded their face.
"Sheila, I will help this boy defeat these wolves. We have to deal with them faster or else..." Cesar was worried about something and Sheila knew it, so she just nodded her head while tending to Jason. She needed to calm Jason down and heal his injuries. They could just leave Yeshua but it appeared that these Alterers still had a conscience.
Yeshua clashed with the wolves again. They were chasing each other while also dodging one vicious attack after another using their high speed.
Yeshua then felt something on the ground. The Wind Wolves also felt it, so they tried to dodge but Yeshua used this chance to finish one of them.
Yeshua quickly flashed beside the last Stage 2 Wind Wolf. The spirit beast was not able to react since Yeshua was faster than it.
Yeshua grabbed the blue wolf and threw it in a specific direction. Before the blue wolf slammed to the ground, a thick pointy wood burst out of the earth and impaled it. The wolf whimpered for a while but died eventually.
Yeshua looked back at Cesar. That Wood Spike was one of the abilities of Cesar's Alter Beast. The lecherous grin was absent from Cesar's face as he talked to Yeshua.
"Ai, we really implicated you this time. I hope that you will not hate Sheila because of this, boy. Anyway, there's no time to talk. I'll help you. Let's finish them quickly." A sense of urgency filled Cesar's voice.
Yeshua felt that something was bothering Cesar but before he could ask Cesar about it the two Stage 3 wolves pounced on him.
Yeshua was facing the two wolves as Cesar supported him. Cesar was a Level 1 Stage 3 Alterer and Yeshua remembered that Cesar's Alter Beast was called Lumber Goat after seeing it.
Lumber Goats relied on their long-range abilities to fight since they had weak attributes. Cesar was using his Wood Spike and Vine Whip to help Yeshua. Though Cesar was Stage 3, he was also injured and exhausted. So Cesar could only give Yeshua a little help.
Then after a few clashes with the wolves, Yeshua smacked one of them and blasted it away. It crashed violently to the ground and growled painfully as it raised its body.
But before it completely stood up, the ground where the wolf was standing suddenly burst as tendrils of wood enveloped and trapped the wolf. It was bound and could not move properly.
This was the special ability of Cesar called Root Trap. This was a silent trap that needed time to set up and Cesar waited for a good chance to activate it. After seeing the wolf fell into the ground where the trap was, Cesar did not wait anymore and activated it.
Yeshua saw this as a good chance to finish off one of the Stage 3 wolves. So he gathered the wind and compressed it in his maw.
Tornado Blast!
Yeshua released a blast of razor wind from his maw. It quickly reached the Stage 3 Wind Wolf and fiercely slammed to it. The swirling blades of wind lacerated the blue wolf bound by the root trap. The wind carried its blood and flesh as its tortured howls accompanied the swishing wind.
After a while, a mangled wolf was the only one left after the violent wind stopped completely. The wolf was already dying as it laboriously breathed. It was already incapable of fighting and it would be a matter of time before it would die.
"That's a very strong attack, boy! How did you become this strong? Are you really a new Alterer? You look like you're stronger than me!" The goat Cesar was astonished by the strength that Yeshua showcased.
"Heh, Lady Luck just really likes my handsomeness, old goat," Yeshua answered with obvious smugness. Being in Alter form would sometimes make Alterers exhibit their subdued emotions. Yeshua would not normally answer like that to someone he barely knew.
"Damn, brat. You're strong but don't call me an old goat! I have a proper and respectable name, bastard!" Cesar annoyingly said as he seemed particularly sensitive with his name.
The wolf Yeshua looked scornfully at the goat Cesar. "If a lecher like you is respectable, then I'm a saint!"
After an exchange of banter, the two Alterers looked at the last Level 1 Stage 3 Wind Wolf. The blue wolf was looking at them and was baring its fangs. It was furious because of the loss of its companions.
Suddenly, the Wind Wolf howled mournfully. Its howl echoed in the quiet still forest. Then, after a couple of seconds, the eerie silence was filled with the raging howl of an alpha beast.
"That's…" Cesar's goat eyes suddenly widened as what he feared really happened. Sheila, who was tending to Jason's injuries, also trembled uncontrollably. She was horrified as she was reminded of the last scene she saw before the three of them ran madly.
Yeshua noticed their reaction but before he could ask, Yeshua sensed a creature approaching them. Then, he saw from afar a two meter long wolf covered with blue fur with violent wind cloaking it. Using its four legs, it was dashing madly leaving afterimages and dust trail.
After seeing it and feeling its strength, Yeshua blurted. "The heck! It seems like Lady Luck doesn't like my handsomeness anymore. It seems my luck already run out!"
After being a bully and acting smugly, it looked like this time Yeshua was hit by fast karma. Bullying, ahem, fighting the other Wind Wolves was manageable by Yeshua. However, the strength of the approaching alpha Wind Wolf would make this battle difficult.
Yeshua already understood that since he was facing a pack of wolf there should be an alpha leading them. He just thought that one of the Level 1 Stage 3 Wind Wolf was the alpha but he was shocked to know that there was a true alpha approaching them.
The alpha Wind Wolf was dashing madly and eventually reached Yeshua and the others. It was standing a few meters across them and it was baring its fangs angrily. It seemed like it realized that its pack was left with only one Wind Wolf.
Yeshua could feel the menacing aura of the alpha Wind Wolf. It was not only bigger than the other Wind Wolves but it was also stronger. Yeshua could feel that the Wind Wolf was around Level 1 Stage 4 strength.
No wonder the three Alterers were in this dire situation. With the other five wolves, the strength of this alpha wolf was enough to put the bovine hunters in despair.
Then, suddenly, the alpha Wind Wolf spitted out the dangling thing on its maw. The thing drew a parabola as it reached Yeshua and the others. When it hit the ground, it rolled slowly until it revealed what it was.
Blood red eyes stared at them as the thing revealed itself. It was a severed head of a bison!
One of its horns was also broken as blood covered it. The bison's head was also gradually turning into its human form and was revealing a familiar face.
Sheila crumbled on the ground as an uncontrollable scream escaped her mouth.
"Noooooo!"
A mournful cry resounded in the quiet cold forest.
