Yggdra could see the confusion from Zeke's face, so she proceeded to explain how the system works.
"The list you see in front of you is incomplete, those are the ones accessible to the farmer as of the moment. It is up to you to gather materials in order for us to discover more upgrades. I put them all neatly in categories so as to classify which is going to be which, of course the higher the rarity the more expensive and meticulous it is, so if you guys ever need to have an upgrade done you need to visit us at once because you never know how long an upgrade could take."
"You see, my predecessor once fashioned a farmer with a weapon that took a whole month to upgrade or forge, so always keep this in mind whenever you're going on an expedition."
"Noted. So, I can see five upgrades here but the prerequisite items are only shown in three of them how is this so?" Zeke inquired.
"That means you can only choose from those three, the other two might be available but currently we and yourself do not know the necessary materials," Yggdra explained, "in other words those are the upgrades I mentioned that needs a monster items or loot that can be found inside the dungeon, meaning you will have to work for it."
"Now, which one of these three captures your attention, be decisive as this is a one time thing only, and absolutely no do overs. After this, if you wanted to upgrade further, make sure to bring the materials and the currency that is needed to do an upgrade."
Looking at the three available upgrades Zeke contemplated on which one suited him the most, his first expedition didn't really help him figure out what battle form he has. He could use magic as well but he hasn't any spells to wield, he might have to visit Aelessa after this.
"Um, I am not well informed about things such as these, could you enlighten me, Ms. Yggdra, as to how these upgrades could potentially help me in battle," Zeke asked politely, he should know what these stats are and what they represent but his gaming skills back home are kind of lackluster, work preoccupied most of his time and even still his free time.
"Sure dear," Yggdra smiled.
"The first one is an enhancement upgrade which evenly increases every stat that your morphing weapon has, in your case: 'Speed' for its speed form, 'Attack' for its attack form and 'Defense' for its defense form. These stats represent the strength of each of your sword's form, the higher the stat, the efficient and destructive its form should be. Seeing as this is a minor upgrade the miniscule amount of stat increase shall be split among the three. Overall, a jack-of-all-trades kind of upgrade."
"The second one works just like the first one but with a few twist. Whenever you're in a form that you are inclined to use, you can use this or to be exact will it, to enhance itself at the heat of the moment. Just like the name implies, it can multiply the base stat of the weapon to a maximum of five, making it stronger in a flurry of actions, the only major downfall of this upgrade is its limit. The maximum time of usage is only for about thirty-seconds flat, and it will have a cooldown of two whole minutes. Admittedly, the loss is higher than the gain but with a multiplier of five for novice upgrade is highly valuable."
"The third and final upgrade is a straightforward upgrade. It increases the weapon's damage output by five percent. This might be a huge downgrade from upgrade number two but this is permanent, and focuses the upgrade on the attack stat which enhances the attack form of the polymorph sword. In short, the five percent stat increase is engraved upon your weapon without the downsides of a cooldown, however unlike the first upgrade this is focused on offense."
"Whew, I think that's about it about these minor upgrades, I might have to put a description whenever we discover a new upgrade so it'll be easier for you, and me, to understand," she breathed heavily after that long explanation, "as a side note, I know you're farmhands has their own combat styles and weapon, however it would also benefit them to strengthen these natural talents by coming in here. I advice that you should bring all of them here to prepare for your expedition."
"That would be great! I remember that they have also been wanting to refine their equipment," Zeke was confused, "have they not visit this shop even once?"
"I'm afraid not, and I'm assuming that it's got something to do about them being such busy workers for the farm," Yggdra replied.
"How do you know that?" Zeke answered in surprise.
"Oh dear, you really need to work on keeping those lips sealed," Yggdra chuckled, "'tis but a common knowledge in this realm, farmhands are required to shoulder some burden of their farmer, isn't that what Mr. Mayor has told you?"
Zeke has almost nodded but managed to keep his head from moving, he just stared at Yggdra preventing her from seeing through him.
"Good. That is better my dear," she smiled, "alrighty! now back to your weapon upgrade, what shall it be?"
Zeke smiled at Yggdra's playful but otherwise motherly protectiveness, it seemed that she was only testing and looking out for him.
"Ahem. I know it should've been better to bring at least my first-in-command to help me sort and figure this out but nothing can be learned by simply always depending on them so I shall choose this time, and carefully of course," Zeke started, "the second upgrade would be the easiest choice as it gives me a lot of time to actually dish out damage but knowing myself, I'm not the type of person to attack recklessly so I would not fully utilize this upgrade, the two minute cooldown also won't be any help if our battles are needed to be handled with haste. Like I've said, I am not the type of person who likes to throw myself into battle, I think first before doing something so the third upgrade would be a waste on me as I won't be always on attack form."
"This leads me to the first one, an all-in-all balanced upgrade with minimal stat increase but evenly spread out among the three. To be frank, I am still inexperienced when it comes to combat so this upgrade shall be most beneficial to me as it increases all three forms effectiveness, even if the increase itself is low."
"Hm. A fair assessment dear, If it wasn't for the fact that you had said you were inexperienced in these things I would have thought I was talking with an experienced traveler. It is commendable of you to think through these subjects with precise analyzation. A calm and thorough demeanor is crucial for a leader," Yggdra said in a calm, contemplative voice, "if that is what you wish, shall we proceed then farmer?"
The improvement of Zeke's initiative surprised even himself, never in a million years would he imagine himself projecting like a true leader, and the praises of the proprietress is comforting to hear.
"Yes, my thanks in advance."
Zeke handed his morphing weapon to Yggdra as the latter proceeded to wrap the weapon in white cloth, "Dearie, one more thing you are capable of magic, yes?"
Zeke did not know whether to respond or not.
Yggdra grinned, "such rigidness already I'm proud. But, you can tell it to me this one time, this would only be between us."
Zeke took a moment and studied Yggdra's face, when he didn't see any malicious intent from her he sighed, "I do not know if this was also confidential but yes I can."
"Splendid, just like all of you predecessors," she spun around and took something underneath the counter, "here you go, since you specifically said that you are more of a tactical fighter I think you would really need this weapon, and yes it's free, no need to pay me, a simply thanks would suffice."
When Zeke glanced at the weapon that she was giving to him, "what is this?"
"It's a Scepter dear."
