Chapter 31 - Gearing Up (Part 3)

"This scepter, like the rest of the weapons we have always made, has a different twist to it. As you can probably tell, or not, a scepter is used for casting spells that one knows by studying or channeling one's inner natural magic, either way that is the use for it I haven't ever heard anyone using this to pummel their enemies."

"This is why I decided to install a hidden needle point inside its handle. Ever since we thought of such idea, we have been installing blades or a weapon that can easily be accessible to otherwise helpless magic users. We all know that casting magic takes time and to do so a person must need to be as far away from their target as possible and whenever they face an enemy that is faster that their cast time, they almost always lose the close quarter combat. This has been a proposed solution to that disadvantage, and thus far we have received nothing but great praises from it."

Zeke held the smooth scepter with both his hands, the lightness of the thing betrays the heavy look it has.

"Since you already have a weapon that you can use in close quarter combat why not have a secondary one? No one said that you could only carry one weapon at a time, you can maybe carry three even although that will definitely hinder your movements so it's inadvisable unless your weapons are light."

Zeke tested out how to wield the thing, he posed a few times while pretending to cast magic from the scepter.

"Careful, you might break something with that weapon," Yggdra warned playfully, "have you practiced enough magic to swing that thing around?"

Zeke glanced at his newly owned scepter then looked at Yggdra meekly, "I'm afraid not, or not enough I guess. I have only ever done magic from this mark on my hand."

"I thought so, well just a warning, that scepter is detects magic latent from the user and it will connect itself to their core so, if you ever felt so emotionally strong about something it might produce fireballs and whatnot."

"I see, apologies," Zeke was surprised about the fact that he could've thrown fireballs around the whole shop if he weren't warned by Yggdra.

"No worries dear, however one final thing about magic and the arcane, I, myself have no connection to it whatsoever so things such as these scepter is handled at the Magic Shop with Aelessa. I could only do physical upgrades with weapons and even magical weapons but Aelessa can improve upon it through enchantment."

"Enchantment? Like Wulfric's magic?" Zeke asked.

"I believe that your farmhand's command over enchantment is much more superb than Aelessa. While his repertoire consists of not only support enchantments, but high enchantment, battle enchantment and the highest form of magic from it's school extreme enchantment as well. Those are highly sought skills, if one would ever want to pursue the way of an Enchanter and these cannot be learned through copious amounts of studying but only through natural, latent talent."

"Aelessa on the other hand, have known enchanting through learning, and this does not mean that theirs is inferior but rather they only focused solely on upgrade enchantment. I also think that Aelessa might be a student of all magic schools so it is no wonder they are quite knowledgeable about the topic. In conclusion, all the stuff that you might need help with concerning the arcane shall be brought to Aelessa for they are the resident wizard of the town."

"I shall keep that in mind," Zeke said while remembering the same thing that Aelessa said when he visited just a few days ago, "anyways, can I ask a question?"

"Go ahead dear."

"How come you know so much about Wulfric?" Zeke asked, curious how the proprietress seemed to know about his farmhand more than he does, "I've never known he could wield such advance magic."

"Oh is that so?" Yggdra said in confusion, "I've never been someone who keeps up with the news of the other realms but no one, in all the realms has never heard of him."

The boys had told him that they had to give up their past lives just to become his farmhands yet so far only Magnus has ever told him some of his personal story, he wondered who Wulfric were in the past, or if it's right to pry like this and ask some other people about it.

Seeing the worried expression from Zeke's face Yggdra spoke, "I can tell that you're curious however I shall not be the one to say these things. It might've been common knowledge here but you are from another world so it's understandable you don't know these things. I believe that you should ask the man himself about this."

Zeke's train of thought was broken as soon as Yggdra has finished what she said, "I suppose your right, and I'm sorry for interrogating you like this."

Yggdra softened at that, "don't you worry about it dear, if I was in your place I would've done the same thing but I wouldn't call that interrogation, you were just worried because he's one of your farmhand."

Zeke looked up from deep contemplation then stared at Yggdra, he smiled then nodded at her, "thank you Ms. Yggdra. It's just I—"

"No need to explain dear, I understand."

"Yes. Thank you again."

Zeke doesn't know why he's acting like this, he was just worried right? About the things that his farmhands did from the past, or how they would affect him if he ever knew. But, he knew he overreacted a bit because it is about Wulfric.

"Well, is there anything else I could help you with dear? The upgrade should take a whole day before you can take it back, it should be ready around this time tomorrow," Yggdra said taking Zeke out of his trance once again.

"Yes, I will come back by then," Zeke said and finally smiled at Yggdra, "thank you again for being such a good help to me."

"Don't mention it dear, now ta-ta so my husband and I could start on your weapon."

Zeke nodded at her one final time before heading out the door.

Holding his newly obtained scepter, Zeke decided to give the Magic Shop a visit once again. He remembered Aelessa telling him to look for spell scrolls or books that can help him learn some few basic spells, however, it has only been days but he hoped that they at least have something in their shop that could help Zeke and his farmhands when they venture inside the dungeon.

The shop looked as bizarre since the last time Zeke was here, he wondered what new things he might learn once he step foot inside again. Glancing at the sign, Zeke went inside the shop.

The layout of the store did not change since the last time he visited and he could still smell that aroma of crushed flowers and plants that he remembered when he visited last time, he immediately saw that there's now one at the counter so he walked his way there and rang the call bell that sits on top of the counter. The ring was so janky that Zeke thought he almost broke the bell.

Before he knew it, the owner of the place has suddenly popped out of nowhere directly in front of him.

"Yes?" Aelessa said, "what can I help you with today?"

Aelessa didn't question his intention of being here so he proceeded to explain, "Um, here."

He put the scepter that Yggdra has graciously gave him on top of the counter for Aelessa to see.

"The proprietress of the Weapon and Armor Shop has given this weapon for myself to use, and I was wondering if you could help me figure out how to use it," Zeke explained.

Aelessa looked at the weapon with discerning eyes then help it with both their hands checking the quality and rarity of it.

"Hm, well I can certainly help you for sure seeing that this is a scepter and I have to say this isn't bad for a ★★ weapon, Yggdra really must've taken a shine on you to give you a ★★ weapon that easily. But, do you have any payment for such help?"

Zeke realized that he hasn't brought any money for his gearing up trip and he has basically taken advantage of Yggdra's kindness, how could he not realize that being the farmer doesn't necessarily earn him a free ticket to everything.

Seeing Zeke's dilemma Aelessa grinned, "well, since Ms. Yggdra has been generous to you today might as well do the same, I wouldn't wanna be stingy one don't I? But, as an owner this would be a one time thing only and for our future transactions, please bring some money."

Zeke nodded, feeling indebted to them but he made sure to take a note to ask some money from his boys.

"Okay, now back to your scepter."
