Chapter 11 - Chapter Eleven

Playing this song always soothes me, Evan says "mom plays this tune all time she was alive," that she said, "this piece should always be played from the heart not just producing sounds."

This is the only way I knew to get close to her. He thought relinquishing himself to the symphony played, pitching the first few phrases in the bass to the subsequent answering melody in the treble.

Someone gasped behind him, he stopped to see who it was. "Don't just stand there, come in," he said. She seemed to be in shock.

She was garbed in a simple flared gown that stopped to her knees, revealing her long shapely legs.

He felt drawn to her. This feeling was foreign to him, his pulse leaped when their eyes met the day she arrived. He caught her staring at him before she quickly looked away and he couldn't help but be intrigued ever since. That day on the beach, he noticed her eyes, they were filled with pain propelling him to comfort her. He ________

Xavier drew up short, appalled at the abnormal sensation. He wanted nothing to do with her, absolutely nothing.

"You play the piano?" she exclaimed. What song?

He arched an eyebrow in acknowledgment. "A theme from Beethoven moonlight sonata."

"I don't know what that is, but can you teach me basic notes. I've always wanted to learn." She explained. "Oh, I almost forgot, Marie, asked me to bring this to you." She continued, flashing the goodies at me

"Keep it on that table." He gestured towards a small table in the corner.

Turning towards me, she pleaded. "So, will you teach me?" blinking those big brown eyes at him, and for a moment he felt frighteningly off balance.

Aren't you going off with Xander?

"He's disposed of so we are not going too early." She replied.

"Ok, get that seat over here, he pointed at the room corner."

'Now seat,' He instructed, she did as he said.

"Our alphabet is A-G starting from the lowest tone." He said, positioning her hands on the piano. His hands-on hers. It was agony, but he wouldn't let go.

"Your thumbs on the middle c-major, the rest. Our left hand should be on F-G-A-B-C and our hand on C-D-E-F-G."

They were too close, her scent drifted to him. She smelled like coconut and something else he couldn't name.

"Ok," she nodded.

'Uh,' he said preoccupied, Her scents were driving him mad.

"Ok, let's play a tune, she repeated

Fine let's play '''Ode to Joy'''," he said guiding her hands to the right keys.

"Looks I'm getting it," she laughed out.

He was captivated by her, he couldn't look away. She halted to stare back at him.

She leaned closer to him, her pupil dilated. Tension drenched the air.

Not good, he thought. His breathing became ragged, you want nothing to do with her remember?

"you are a bad pianist," he said breaking off eye contact.

"It means you are a bad teacher," she replied.

"No, you are just unteachable," he laughed out.

Getting away from her, he stepped towards the small table at the corner, took one muffin from the plate then turned to look at her. "Xander is here, so you may as well leave."

"Oh, thanks for the lesson." She said

"You are welcome," he muttered as she strode out.

Here, I won the first bet.

They didn't kiss, so you didn't. Xander argued. Just outside the room, I heard Marie and Xander's voices.

What is going on? I asked, scrutinizing them.

What—— nothing going on, silly girl. Marie jumped.

Why were you taking so long, lets go. Xander dragged me along with him.

So, who won the bet? I eyed Xander as he drove.

No one. Yet. He smirked.

You all are shameless. I said, folding my arm on my chest and rolled my eyeball for effects.

I saw a bookstore nearby, just take me there when we are done. I said, staring out the window.

His bellowing laughter rang past my ear, the sound grating on my nerves.
