Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen

I hated first days. On my first day of junior high, I saw my first period, I didn't know what to do, didn't have someone to talk to. It hadn't help that I was timid then, Luckily there weren't classes on the first days and no one noticed the shy new girl and her state.

Today my first day in Bridgerton high would be different though. I have Kayla and Kay.

Saturday evening with the girls was fun. We agreed on a sappy romance for our first movie night. It is unique how different persons can have so many similarities; we laughed during a sob scene, stole each other popcorn, have a penchant for sleeping in and a sweet tooth.

As Xander pulled into the school's driveway, I got out of the car only to be pulled into a hug by Kayla.

"Stop it, Kayla, you will smother her," Kay said, keeping Kayla's tentacles from my neck.

"Nice to meet you too." I smiled, a bit breathless.

"Hi Xander, Xavier," Kay greeted. So we are taking Glory here, see you later. Without waiting for a reply, we strolled away.

Within the first five minutes of stepping into the hallway, I had received many stares. Some were whispering and pointing. I am used to being ignored, but not this.

"What are the odds of this school getting new students?" I said, opening my locker.

"In the middle of the semester? None." Kay answered.

"Oh," I said

"Don't bother yourself alright," Kayla said. "Now, what classes do you have?" She continued.

"Art first period," I replied. You?

"Art too, Kay have English first period."

"Right, got to go. See you guys later," Kay said, dashing off.

At that moment the bell rang, Leaving me and Kayla hurrying for class.

"You are late ms Walters," a voice admonished, scowling at Kayla from her prim glasses. "And who is your friend?" she said, her eyes digging into me.

"Sorry, Mrs. Varner," Kayla said. "And this is Glory, she is new."

"Very well, please sit." Mrs. Varner sighed.

I found a vacant seat near the wall. The seat next to me was filled, so Kayla had to sit at the back.

"Class," she started. "Last week we talked about how colors intrepid, portray the human dimension."

I was half-listening to what she was saying. Aunt basil texted me an hour ago, wishing me good luck. I smiled and replied with a smiley emoji. I texted Kay to get lunch for me if she gets to the cafeteria first.

"___So, attempt to portray human dimensions, you can practice on anyone staying still ok? Class dismissed." She droned as the bell rang.

The rest of the morning passed in the same fashion. I was asked to introduce myself in algebra class, I stated my name quickly, grateful to slink away to the back away from curious eyes.

Xander was in my AP world history and government class and he walked with me to the cafeteria.

Kay, Leo, Kayla, Xavier, and Tony sat in the middle of the cafeteria. Some girls sat down next to Tony, they seem to burst into fits of giggles every time he looks at them.

"Sup." Xander dropped into the seat between Kay and Tony. The only seat left was next to Xavier, leaving no way to evade him.

I crunched down on the seat, careful not to touch him, peering everywhere but at him.

"I got you lunch," Kay said as she glided the tray across the table.

"Thanks," I replied, diving into the lasagna, it is an acquired taste, though not as tasty as Marie's.

"Nice?" Tony leaned towards me.

I bobbed my head, chewing slowly before I could choke.

"Some parents sponsored so their kids don't eat crap." He continued.

Kayla tossed a chip at his head. "Like your mom, wasn't among the sponsors."

"Thanks, darling," he grinned, clasping it with his teeth. The girls beside him giggling at the show.

Silence drifted across the room as people's gaze flickered to the entrance. At the door stood Amanda, she pranced into the room, her head held high, her friends from the beach behind her.

She approached our table, a scowl visible on her face when our eyes met.

Hi guys. Xavier, Xander how are you? She gushed out, her scowl vanishes.

No one responded, they all ignored her as if she wasn't there.

"Oh you are here," She exclaimed, turning towards me. "I didn't see you there. First day right? What's your impression of the school?"

I glanced at her, my lips curled up in a smile. What a show.

I apologize for the beach episode Xavier, I didn't know she was your cousin. She said, lowering her tears framed lashes.

She is not my cousin. Xavier replied, not looking up from the book he placed on the table.

He didn't care that his words implied something else.

Oh, she muttered, she sucked in a breath, her bottom lip wobbled.

Amanda, you didn't come to lunch just to stand here right? Kayla said, waving her hand like she was chasing away a buzzing fly. She may as well as said, "you are annoying Amanda so buzz off.

See you later, She said, her eyes flickered to Xavier. I halfway expected to see her tuck a tail between her legs and whine.

The cafeteria resumed its low-hum conversation as no amusement was offered.

What a deceptive bitch. Xander said.

Yeah so scary, Tony said, faking a shudder.

I thought you love girls like that tony?

Leo teased.

Not psychos dude, Tony said. Our laughter rang throughout the cafeteria even Xavier crackled a smile.
