Waking up with a start had become normal. The feel of sweat-soaked sheets and the sensation of running a marathon was like an old friend at this point. Flopping back with a groan, I spoke to the room. "Alexa, what time is it?"
"It is three am." Spoke to the little AI.
I flung my blanket off with a frustrated grumble. Once up, I can't get back to sleep. Soā¦ 'No point in becoming a sack ratā¦'
Standing up, I shuffled to the kitchen to start the coffee maker. These were the moments you could liken me to a living corpse. Once done I grabbed my cell to check for messages. I wasn't gone the night before last and left my work phone at home. I try to keep work and play as separate as possible. Otherwise, nothing gets really finished. Looking at the notification light blinking up at me merrily from my cellphone. With a foreboding feeling filling my stomach I pressed the button and listened to the message.
"Hey Tia, this is Minako, Higurashi-chan can't make the morning shift... I'll need you to run double today. Of course, I'll pay over time. I'll need you around seven to open up. Sorry again."
"This is the third timeā¦" I groaned as I rubbed my eyes in aggravation.
I continued about my early morning. I started up my Mr. Coffee and looked through my cupboard for an ideal breakfast. After rummaging in my fridge for a few minutes I had taken out the items needed to make a very tasty omelet but grabbed some sourdough bread and cut a hole in it.
'Haven't had 'toad-in-a-hole' in a while. Need to use the leftover veggies from the other night anyhow.' I thought with a hum.
The sounds of the coffee maker gurgling away and the sizzling of me cooking were the only sounds in the apartment. Eventually, I sat down at my little coffee table and ate my breakfast with a steaming cup of java. I sat for a few minutes after eating my breakfast and sipping my coffee.
I sighed after taking another sip of my brew and looked out the window in thought. I had been thinking about my future a lot as of late. Unsure if I was going down the right path or not. I had been going to college online and doing odd jobs to pay for it.
I glanced at the clock with a sigh, noticing that I now had to get dressed. "Life just loves to fuck with meā¦." I lamented. While draining the last of my cup and quickly went about on getting into uniform.
As soon as the clock reached five AM, I was locking my door and heading down to my scooter. It wasn't the greatest thing I had, but it beat biking up the hills that were in my area. If I needed to go to one of the slightly larger towns in my area I just had to take a back road. There were plenty near me.
Zipping my coat close to stave off the morning chill, I slipped on my helmet and shoved my house keys into my purse. Quickly turning on my ignition and the thrum of my scooter was heard in the early hours of the morning. Hoping that I didn't wake my neighbors, I sped out from my apartment parking and onto the street.
Thankful I was a little more than five minutes away by vehicle so I wouldn't be late. Not that my boss was an ass about being late, I myself was late more often than not thanks to having a newborn in the house.
I parked a little ways away from my job since time was no employee parking. Living in Tokyo was a bit of a double-edged blade. It had taken me forever to get a job, being a foreigner would do that to you.
My name is Tia Evans, and this is a story that could be likened to Fanfiction.
