We were dancing for what seems like forever when I went to refill our glasses. We were making turns filling the glasses. I walked over to the table that they stacked up with alcohol. Damn, don't these people have anything better to spend there money on, then to sponsor alcohol to a bonfire party in the woods ?
I'm surprised to see that they even got whiskey, which is expensive but also happens to be my poison. I poured tequila in Rebecca's glass and vodka in Pamela's. We all clearly have different taste.
I was about to take a sip when someone spoke to me.
"Hi." It's the same dark haired, golden eye, freakishly tall and surprisingly handsome stranger form the diner.
I held my glass to my lips as I looked around to see the four musketeers are all here, awesome.
"It's Alice, right ? It said so on your nametag earlier."
"Yes... You new in town or something ? Because I know this party is strictly seniors."
"Yeah, we just moved back here," he motioned to the other three guys as well, "Abi must have found our info at school and she invited us."
Of course she did. She just so happens to also be the principals daughter, so she gets away with murder. I wouldn't put invading private documents of students past her.
I only nodded and smiled at them.
"Moved back ?" I asked
"Yeah, we have relatives here." A smoking blonde guy next to him said.
"Great." I said and tried to finish pouring the three drinks in an attempt to make a run for it.
"My name's Aiden, by the way." The dark haired guy said.
I was finishing up the drinks by adding soda and the grabbed them all in my hand to try and escape from this conversation with the guy I had the most frightening vision yet.
"My name's Aiden, by the way." The dark haired guy said.
I was already on my way when he spoke again, so I only turned slightly as I said, "Nice to meet you." Not even stopping. I know I'm being rude to the new kid on the block, but I always trust the Vision. What I see is never wrong.
I handed the girls each a glass as I chugged mine down.
"I need some air !" I yelled over the loud music.
They were still dancing and only winked and nodded at me.
I walked over to the lake, which was just a few meters away form where we were having the bonfire. It started getting colder next to the water and I was too lazy to walk all the way back to my car to get my jacket.
I crouched down next to the water, balancing my weight on my toes.
"You know, I could have sworn you had green eyes when you brought me my burger." Aiden said.
"Shit ! Don't you knock ?"
"You do realize we are outside ?"
"Can I help you ?" Again, I know I'm being rude. But this guy just mentioned my eyes. I don't trust him, so I don't want his company.
"Your eyes were green."
"They still are."
"Yes, they were also grey."
I tried standing up, but my blood sugar levels failed me and I fell down on my butt. Aiden helped me up and obviously touched me again. I don't know what it is but whenever he touches me, I can't keep my powers in check. I got on my feet and turned my face away as I hugged my body and shut my eyes tight. This is frustrating the hell out of me. Trust me, I had to learn control from the age of 6 when your gifts and powers started to surface and I never had an accident like revealing my true eyes.
"What are you ?!" I yelled out in frustration.
He only looked at me in curiosity, not like I basically just insulted him. His silence was almost enduring.
I was about to call him out again when I heard a scream coming form the bonfire. I ran over, not even hesitating to leave Aiden behind me. I got to the fire and looked around to see panicked people standing around a tree. I pushed through to see if I could find Rebecca and Pamela. But I couldn't find them anywhere. I even yelled out for them and had no luck.
When my attention swung to a tree people were huddled around, I saw what all the commotion was about. There hung a body form the tree. Not like a suicide attempt, but like someone or something tried to send a message. That person went through a horrible death. The entire body was beaten to a pulp. You could see purple bruises all over, like the poor person was trampled by a heard of wild bulls.
I ran back to where my car was parked but it was no longer where I had left it. I started to panic and it felt like my lungs were on fire. I struggled with asthma since I was a baby and I didn't have my inhaler with me. It was in my bag which I had left in my now gone car.
"Do you need a ride ?" Aiden yelled from the silver Range Rover where he was about to get into the car with the other three guys.
My words were caught in my throat as I struggled to breath. I stood with my hands above my head trying to revive myself.
I was hesitant of weather I was going to get into the car or not, but then I saw the flashing lights of police vehicles and I made a choice of running to the car.
The one guy, who's name I am yet to learn, jumped in the back and gave me the pass of sitting in the front passenger seat.
"Damn it, it's Rory." I said to myself.
"Who ?" Aiden asked me.
"Drive now !" I yelled in between breaths.
We had one rule in our coven. Never get caught in the aftermath of a magical tragedy. It attracts unwanted attention form the council. This was clearly pissed off fae folk. We even broke the covens curfew of going into the woods after dark and our parents had no idea that we were even out here. Rebecca and I both belong to the coven as our mothers do. We used the excuse that we were staying at Pamela's house. She knows about us, but she doesn't have powers like we do.
I tried calling Rebecca, who didn't answer after three calls. I tried Pamela who finally answered. Luckily I didn't leave my phone in my bag like I wanted to.
"Pamela, where the hell are you guys ? Where is my car ?"
"Relax, we couldn't find you so I drove Becca back to my place because she kept on vomiting. I'm leaving to come get you now. Are you having an asthma attack ?"
"Don't leave your house, I'm on my way."
I hung up the phone to focus my attention on what was going on around me. I was still catching my breath so I only listened to the panicked conversation going on in the car. I didn't understand all that they were saying. They must have been speaking in another language.
I ignored the babbling of unintelligible words and noticed a black SUV trailing us.
"Turn here." I instructed Aiden.
"What, why ?"
"Just listen to me."
We made the turn and the car was still following us.
"Pull over and turn off your lights, we're being followed."
He sped up until we were in a clearing where Aiden pulled the car in between some bushes. They were still murmuring on about something which completely pushed away my concentration.
"Just shut up for a second." I said.
I leaned forward and put both my hands on the dashboard.
"What are you doing ?" Someone from the back asked.
I ignored them as I started chanting a cloaking spell that would hide us from the on coming SUV.
In the darkness without light, take away their seeing sight...
The car stopped a few meters away from where we were and people got out with flashlights.
"Stay completely still and silent." I whispered.
The spell I casted also drove them away form our exact location. They were searching in the complete opposite direction from where we were standing and waiting for them to run along.
They finally gave up and left in the car. There was still only the deafening silence around us for a few more seconds after the SUV had left.
"That was not the police." The blonde guy said.
"Hunters ?" Aiden asked.
"They were definitely tracking something." A guy from the back seat said.
Did I mention that we also have to keep an open eye for hunters ? No ? Well they kill any supernatural creature they can find that causes distress in the human world. Us being caught at the murder scene by the police would have led the hunters straight to us.
"We should head back. Where should I take you ?" Aiden asked.
"Um... Hills...5th."
The entire car ride back was silent. The only noise in the car was the typing on a phone. I stared out of the window most of the ride back to Pamela's house. I wanted to avoid eye contact just for incase my eyes were still a bit greyish.
Well, the cats out of the bag now. They know what I can do. I just still have to figure out what they exactly are. They definitely are not human, that's for sure. I always trust my gut instinct and it's telling me that they are dangerous and not friendly to Fell Grove, but its clear that they also got a bit spooked by whatever killed that kid. Another problem I have to figure out.
The car came to a stop and Pamela was already waiting outside for me. I was still mad at her for just taking my car and leaving me.
"What happened ?!" Pamela asked.
"You left me, that's what happened ! You took my car and you left me there, alone !"
"Aiden went looking for you so I thought you wouldn't notice that we were gone. I couldn't find you, Alice. I was about to come back to you, I swear."
"Screw you, you left me !"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. I only tried to help Rebecca. What happened ?"
"Just give me my key's, please." I took my keys form Pamela and got into my car.
"Alice, please wait..." Pamela called after me.
I saw the Range Rover still standing in the street. I started my Impala 1967 and reversed out of her drive way and drove off home. The wind was blowing through my hair from the roof top still being open.
I reached my house without even noticing the town going past me. The only thing I knew is that I had an extremely long night and that I just wanted to go to sleep and start a new day.
