Chapter 6 - Chapter 5: First sign of danger

Peter parked his car on the end of the forest and I had to figure this thing out. I've never used a portal key like this before.

"Alright, now hold your hand out like this," he directed my hand in front of me. "Now just imagine where you want to go and you create the portal."

He steered my hand from the left side of the ground, around and to the right. Like I was forming an oval shaped door.

The blue flash appeared in front of me.

"Well, then I guess I'll see you tomorrow." I said, giving him a hug which lasted far too long comparing to other days.

Rebecca followed me through the portal to the other side. She didn't even give Peter a hug goodbye. When we got through, we were standing next to my car where I had left it earlier.

"Hey, wat's going on with you and Peter ?" I asked her. Her aura was all shades of anger and disappointment.

"Nothing important."

"Of course it's important if you were part of it, you can tell me."

"Yeah, listen can you just take me home please ?"

"Oh, sure."

We got into my car and drove off. The entire drive to her house she didn't say a word. For a few seconds I thought I was alone in the car.

We got to her house and I parked in the driveway.

"Thanks" Rebecca said.

"Wait Becca. Are you mad at me or something ?"

"Nope."

"Come on, I know you are upset about not being called out at the meeting. Don't you even want to know what it's about ?"

"No, I'm good. It has nothing to do with me in any case."

She got out of the car and walked to her house and through the door. I only sighed and started my car to get back home.

I walked in and could smell the dinner my mom had prepared. I walked in and sat down on a stool at the counter.

"Hi sweetheart. I saw you at the meeting today and I'm very proud of you."

"For what mom ?"

"Being such a strong person."

"Right, Bearn's army."

"Mhm."

I ate my dinner and went up to my room to get ready for bed. I've had a tiring day and now I really need a hot shower. I'd rather wash my hair in the morning though.

I got out and put on an over sized black shirt and pajama shorts. I took out my contact lenses and put on the glasses. They were of those nerdy looking ones.

I walked into my room and checked my calendar, well this is not the way I wanted to start my senior year. And could we really be facing a serious threat that could put the realms in danger ? Well it had to be serious if they had to put a bunch of kids together to form extra troops to protect them.

I humming sound came form behind me and I turned to see a portal opening up.

"Alice ?"

"Aiden ? What the hell are you doing ?"

"Sorry to interrupt you, but I had to give you the location of the academy."

He handed me a piece of paper.

"Thank you, but call me next time or something. I could have still been getting dressed."

"Yeah, sorry about that, I just didn't have your number."

"Right. How do you know where I live any how ?"

"My father knows your mother."

I only shook my head. There was an awkward silence in the air.

"I'll see you tomorrow morning." he said and closed the portal before I could even reply.

Well then, I guess I really have to go tomorrow. I was kind of hoping they would forget to give me the location to the academy. Who even has an academy specially for Vampires ? This is legit like some fantasy novel kind of thing. I will kill myself if I have to walk into a sparkly guy called Edward, even if I was a huge Twilight fan when I was 12.

I got into my bed and almost immediately felt the comfort of sleep falling over me.

It was exactly quarter past four when I was able to drag my body from underneath the covers. I hate getting up this early in the morning, but I have to be at the academy before five. I don't want to be the last person who decides to pitch up.

I braided my hair on two separate rows down my head. I must have pinned every single loose strand of hair to my head to keep it from dangling in my face.

I carefully looked at the piece of paper in my hands with the location and then switched back to the portal key on my arm before actually making a portal.

The flashing blue formed in front of me. I concentrated in the exact location I wanted to go. It's pretty dangerous just jumping through without knowing where you're going. You never know where you might end up... maybe even in pieces.

Getting to the other side, I was shocked. Not by the ride I just had, but by the place I just appeared at. This has to be the most beautiful meadow I have ever seen. I looked around and saw a million tree's, rose bushes and all different kinds of flora. I walked over to the bush with white roses. It stood tall and majestic as ever. White roses are my favorite.

I bent over and smelled the flower in front of me when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I jumped nearly into a new blood type from the fright I got.

I tall woman stood there. She reminded me of the Amazon woman with her figure and long blonde hair. She must be in her early 200's I'm guessing. She was wearing a matching track suit set of plain black, even the shoes.

"This way." She spoke and started walking.

I quickly followed behind her. She took really long steps. One after the other like she was gliding. This only made me feel awkward as she was basically out walking me. She really is tall though.

"If you're done staring, you are needed over there." She said pointing at a small group of people and training mats all around them.

"Thanks, your highness." I said as sarcastic as possible since she was being rude. I also added a little bow to it which put the cherry on top.

The sun was just starting to rise as it was so freaking early. I walked over to see Peter and walked straight over to him.

"Hey there." Peter said.

"Hey yourself." I said smiling at him as I gave him a hug, "So any sight of G.I. Joe ?"

"He was here a few seconds ago. It's ten to five so I guess we'll be starting soon."

We just stood waiting and checking out the competition around us. I can not believe how big this place is.

"You know, this place reminds me of the X-men where they have a school for all the mutants. The Xavier Institute." I said to Peter.

"Wow, you are such a nerd." Peter answered.

I hit his shoulder as my response. I looked around a little bit more. On my left was a group a people standing and pointing our way. I'm guessing they're vampires and they don't exactly like us being here.

Well, not guess actually. I could see the auras coming off of them and they were not expressions of joy. The complete opposite.

I could see that it was irritating a lot of people around me. We were a big group of all sorts of supernatural creatures by this time.

I was about to make a comment on the bunch of eagles, but G.I. Joe finally showed up.

"Good morning everyone." Bearn said.

Everyone outside and about the property was standing around and listening, even the tall blonde. She was standing next to Bearn with a clipboard and pen in her hands.

"This morning, you will be teamed up with a partner. This partner will remain so until it is seen otherwise." Bearn said, "This morning you will be put in categories of warriors, portal watch or plainly unnecessary. We will put in a place we see you fit. You will be put through tests like hand to hand combat, which is the first. Cancel the rest of your days plans. We will be busy for a while."

"Wait" I protested, "I can't just skip a day of school."

People were shocked from what I could tell by their faces. Bearn was now only staring at me like a just ate his mother.

"Look, the witch has somewhere else to be." A girl said that from behind me and I could here a few people snicker and murmur.

"I have responsibilities." I said aloud to whomever made the first snarky comment.

Bearn was now walking right up to me. I only saw people moving out of his way as he stood in front of me, tall and proud.

"You have a responsibility to your coven." Bearn stated.

"Yes, I do." I said.

"Then act like it." Bearn said and walked away.

I guess they really do bite.

"As I call your names in pairs, please proceed to the first mat." The tall blonde woman said, "Alicia you're first and let's go with Selene."

"You didn't even read her name from the list." I protested.

"I know. On the first mat." She said and pointed at the huge black square of material.

What are these people playing at ? I mean, I know I just insulted Dracula, but do they really have to target me on the first day ?

I ignored the giggles coming from behind and walked onto the mat facing the woman head on. She was a great deal taller then me. What is it with tall vampires ?

"Alright, let's start sparring." The blonde said, "The only rules are to play nice. All supernatural powers are allowed."

Play nice, sure. I can do that.

We started circling each other. I held my hands up protecting my face. I at least know how to defend myself seeing as my older brother, John, taught me a few tricks.

I was focused on the girl, but then all of a sudden she flashed around me and knocked my feet out form under me.

"This is playing nice ?" I said. I huffed and got back on my feet.

"Those words don't exist in my vocabulary." Selene said.

"Clearly !" I shouted.

We were circling each other again and an entire crowd of people were watching our every move.

I was a bit more careful of my foot work and dodged a punch from her.

This were still going pretty slow.

"I was told that you were one of the strongest in the coven and Selene is also one of the top students. I want to see pain and bruises !" The blonde woman yelled.

I lost my focus for a few seconds as I looked over to the woman who was talking and not at Selene. She threw another punch and hit me right on my check bone and a kick at me knee.

I fell to the mat again and I could feel blood pooling on my check.

"This is ridiculous Annabeth !" Aidan protested.

She visibly ignored him," I want to see power !" She shouted.

"You want to see power ?!" I answered her back, "Fine !"

I drew all the power I could manage from the elements around me. Lucky for my a guy was lighting a cigarette just a few meters away from me.

I stood to me feet and pulled the fire towards me. It looked like a dragon was coming right at me as I managed to make the flames into a ball of fire.

I held it still, playing with it before I threw it. I aimed for the Selene and I struck her in her face.

No need to worry, vampires have supernatural healing abilities, remember ?

I heard yelling and screeching coming from Selene as she fell to the ground. You could see the fire destroying her hair and facial figure.

A hand pulled me back form the whole of anger I was ingulfed in.

"Alice, that's enough." Aidan said.

I pulled my arm out of his grip and said," She'll heal."

Three people were standing around her and comforting her. I wanted to feel bad, but I didn't. I looked at the damage I just caused one last time. Smoke was raising of off the skin and you could smell burning flesh.

She yelped out in pain a few more times before you could see her start healing. It looked like her skin was bubbling as new cells formed over the burned ones.

She was shaking with a clear anger in her appearance. She jumped to her feet and in a blink of an eye she was right in front of me, but so was Aidan, holding her off.

"That's enough, Selene." Annabeth said, "Good work." She said and looked over at me.

"What the hell is wrong with you, this is what you want ?!" I yelled at her.

"Yes." Annabeth said walking up to me," I want strong warriors, not weak. You just showed strength."

"Screw you !"

"I don't care for your tone."

"I don't care for your barbaric ways of..."

"That is enough !" Bearn cut me off.

Bearn looked at Aidan and signalled to the left with his head. Aidan then practically dragged me away from the storm of people formed around the first mat.

I shrugged off Aidan's grip form my shoulder. I was now standing in the same meadow I was standing in a few minutes ago.

The sun was shining through trees and made strands of light beams.

"How did we even get here ?" I asked Aidan.

He shrugged his shoulders and put his hands in his track suite pockets.

I'm really starting the day off by growing more and more irritated by the abilities of speeds that the immortals held.
