"Frist I would like to apologize to you, because in a way we are responsible for your terrible life." The old man AKA God said with a slight bow. John was initialy too shocked to respond but the sudden apology bought him back to reality.
'Isn't it obvious. It is gods who set our lives, so my messed up life was all gods fault.' He thought. He had a lot of practice in cussing at God and was pretty much ready to shot off but the apology was the last thing he was expecting from a god.
"No. You are wrong. " Off course gods can read mind and even mess with them. John didn't bother asking how the old man knew what he was thinking. "Lives aren't set by us. It is people's choices that set their destiny. Well at least in most cases. Unfortunately you were not one of them."
'So they did mess with my life after all. ' John wanted put grab hold of the old man godly head and break it but wasn't able to move as if all his body had gone numb.
"Hear me out completely first before you start breaking my godly head. hehehe....." The old man tried to joke but John just wasn't until in the mood. The old man cleared his throat and continued "Ahem... I am a god of a different world then one you were in and we had once needed some help from your world's gods but instead of using their own power they as we had wised for and also given the price for, they chose a simpler method, to steal it from an already existing source and gave it to us. Which was you. More importantly your overpowered luck. "
Since John couldn't break the old man's head (or move, thanks to the old man) he calmed down slightly and heard what he said and asked
"So you didn't mess with my life? And what do you mean by overpwered luck? Explain. " John demanded in a rude manner but the old man didn't seem to mind.
"No we didn't mess with your life directly but our intervention did cause more mess in your life than would have been. To answer your second question let me explain you what luck is. It is the ratio of the probability of the things to go in your favor against the total no of possible choices. Every world has one fixed average amount and to exceed that one must pay equivalent price."
"During peaceful period our world has the average of 35% and your world has 25%. But your world's God had kept a loop hole while fixing this amount using which he could create more luck and give it to someone or take some people's luck and give it to someone else if he wishes to do so. Our world doesn't have such a rule and due to some reason we needed this luck thus asked your world god to make us some and also gave him an appropriate price but instead of making it, he stole your luck, which was 95% and gave it to us causing you life to go in terrible way. Thus as an apology we are willing to give you a chance to live a new life in our world with two privileges of your choice."
The old man/god spoke non stop as John tried wrap his head around what he said. "But I don't want to live in this world I want to live with my dad. " He immediately rejects the offer.
"You cannot, if you wish for your father to live a peaceful life. Just think back to it do you think everything would have gone right if we hadn't interviened. We took your luck when you were 12, when things started to go side ways in your life, but don't you fell that some of these things were preplanned and not because your luck was bad."
He did feel so. What happened with with his mother and step-mother was definitely fixed that way before he was even born. "So you are saying that the god of that world had already decided to take my luck and give it away to someone else and what happened to my father was all because he was my father. "
"No. What I am trying to say is that it is best for you to not be in that world least the gods there decide to mess with you again. And in that world the dead people souls go through process of being born again immediately after death. So you won't be meeting your father anyway."
John was quite. He didn't know what to say. His father's suffering were because of him. 'Why me? '
He thought the same thing he had thought before his death.
"I think I might be able to give you an answer for that but it may not be something you wish know. " Looking at John the god said slowly.
"Tell me, please why did I deserve all that. " John asked with his heart feeling heavier and eyes dripping. He cried as he looked at the god.
Rach's eyes softened as he looked at John. He crouched down and hugged him. He held John for a long time till stopped crying.
"Tell me, why? " John asked pushing him back.
"You might have guessed the answer. "
"Was it just for his enjoyment, cause I don't think I ever did anything to deserve all that. "
"Yes." The god nodded his head. "When you live a life which is so long and boring it's easy to lose yourself so for entertainment some time god put worthy mortals to test by placing hurdles in their paths and watch them overcome them, then reward them with the prize they deserve. But unfortunately some gods tend to ignore the rewarding parts and keep placing hurdles after hurdles to break the mortals and enjoy seeing them in pain like some sort of sick torcher show and even if they do give them reward, they give them something they have no use of, to rub salt on wounds."
John didn't speak but now he started to feel realeved. Realeved that everything that happened wasn't his fault, cause a part of him always kept thinking that it was his choices that had messed up his and his father's life after all people always said that the life you live is decided by your choices.
