In the town of Rusko, there was a growing problem. Goblins were becoming more and more of a nuisance. Three years ago a group went to raid their village, only to find the entire village was armed with human weapons. Ever since then no one could attack the village and come back with enough goods to justify their losses. This sudden arrival of weapons in the goblin village was the fault of a single man, Kalen.
"Dammit" this yell was followed by a loud clang. It was a failed sword that the young man had tossed across the cave. He stood at an anvil next to a tempering box. Across the cave was a furnace and a grinder next to that. He sat down on a crate next to his anvil and waited. He knew that the goblin would be coming soon. Upon hearing the sound of a thrown sword a goblin scurried up a grabbed it. The goblin then dropped two pieces of iron ore. This exchange had been going on for three years. The goblins took any of his failed weapons and gave home iron.
"Why can't I make a sword that can hold Aura. I had the sword at perfect density and size, but nothing works. The iron is fine too. What I am supposed to do?"
After debating with himself he finally admitted after three years that he couldn't do it alone. He had to find a master. He had a natural disposition for blacksmithing. However, the Royal Blacksmiths Union controlled all blacksmithing techniques that passed the apprentice level of blacksmithing. Journeyman techniques were passed down by Master Blacksmiths who served the union. Master techniques were only given to those who took an oath to the Warrior King Rycus (who United the Scotts in the war against Camelot).
"So in the end I'll have to serve the rich to get stronger. Is it really worth being a dog to reach the next level?"
As he sat there contemplating his options, he saw a goblin that was being beaten by the others and wasn't fighting back. That reminded him of something. Humans are not Goblins. Goblins become complacent and unchanged if someone uses them, but some humans would fight to the death for freedom. He was one of them someone who wouldn't be complacent. So he knew that he would easily betray an oath if it meant achieving his goal.
