Chapter 4 - Blacksmithing Is Hard

"I want to be a blacksmith"

This was probably not the best start to a conversation one could have. However, he had been living in the woods for years, so manners were not his strong suit.

"Then go ask down the street"

"I already know how to be a basic blacksmith, I want to know how to make aura weapons."

"Then go apply to be a royal blacksmith"

"Is that the only way, I don't want to serve the King"

After this Adair pondered for a second. He thought about his restrictions and then answered.

"I can't let you become my apprentice without consent from the king. Also, can you even use aura?"

"I thought that you could teach me?"

"Well you thought wrong. Aura is something that has to be unlocked through near-death experiences."

"Then I'll just go fight some monsters"

So Kale left the blacksmiths shop in a rush and ran out of town. Kale was a bit reckless, but blacksmithing was his life. If facing death was a requirement then he was ready to take that step. He went to the forest. He had been walking in the forest for half an hour before he spotted a large boar.

The boar was red with black spots. It had two ten inch tusk as sharp as iron. It was three feet tall and two feet wide. Kale had just noticed it when it let out a low growl. It charged forward at full speed and Kale barely had time to pull out his sword. Kale's sword met the tusk head-on and a loud bang echoed through the forest.

"Why did you tell that kid that" A cloaked figure in the rafters of the Adair's shop asked him.

Adair smiled as he looked up. "Lucian, it's been awhile."

"Yes it has, and I see you still won't take an apprentice"

"I'm not signing another kid up for the slave labor you call blacksmithing."

"Fair enough" the cloaked man said "still why would you send that kid to his death."

"Reckless Determination" Adair said with a smile. "Aura is in everyone, but few people have the mental strength to handle it. Those who gain aura without a proper mind are doomed to die."

"Aura seems like too much of a hassle"

"All magicians say that, until an aura blade kills them."

"Well fine then. If you want to keep up your innocent village blacksmith act then fine. The past catches up to everyone, even you."

The voice stoped and the room became quiet. If Lucian had stayed just a bit longer he would have heard a devilish laughter.

"That boy is my key to breaking this binding. Damn the king. He'll rot in Hell when I'm done."
