Chapter 18 - Memory of a Cruel World - PT 1

I stretched lightly, thinking for a moment. It had been a few hours since Samuel visited and left… he did take the kid with him, but, he left me with something odd.

A weird feeling in my gut.

Perhaps this is some sort of prank he's pulling, but I can never be sure. Something is wrong… gah, perhaps I should heed his advice and ignore it.

After he left, I informed the other Automata about what had just transpired. Everyone found it so very odd Samuel had returned, as supposedly he hadn't been spotted in such a long while that he looked so much different.

After receiving some bandages and disinfectant for my wounds, I was assigned a choice of weapon from the Armory. Arriving in the brightly and warmly lit room, the smell of gunpowder was the first thing to hit my nose.

A larger, older looking Automata wheeled itself over towards me in an office chair as I entered the workshop. Rather than light greys and whites, she had dark colorings all over her clothing and body. She had a ponytail, much like the one I fashioned with my own hair, minus the small tuft I leave out.

"Welcome to the Armory! Lord Hall, we know how much you prefer making your own weapons and gear… but, us manufacturing automata just couldn't help ourselves in designing something for our lord!"

I smiled softly and looked around without much of a word. There certainly was some good equipment, but nothing extraordinary. I then turned to her and asked- "Thank you, thank you. May I see?"

"Of course!" The Automata smiled back happily. She placed her hand against some sort of pad, opening up and sending out a large black case from a hidden panel installed in a wall. "I'll let you do the honors, I'm sure you'll enjoy it my Lord."

I motioned forward, waving my hand and opening it remotely. Out from the box spilled a great light as sparkles and glowing lights bubbled from the container, slowly hovering upwards was a white spear with gold inlays.

It was beautiful and crafted with utmost care, such an item would be a certified beauty in my time. A rough and firm Ivory handle with spires and patterns of flames and swirling whirlwinds marked in gold. The type was a brilliantly shining golden edge in the shape of an arrow head.

"Elegant… simple marvelous…" I whispered in great appreciation and awe. "What are its specs, my friend?"

"It's an A grade spear with a focus on exposing and punishing weaknesses, it's made from some harvested Karmic Energy as well as some Empyrean Gold. It was originally an old crown of yours, but, with your new body… that wouldn't have fit anyway, so, you get this instead. Would you like to name it, my lord?"

I pondered for a moment as I held the spear in my hand, it smoothly fit and held firm in my grasp. Spinning it around above me and to the side of me, it made a soft ringing noise like a wooden whistle… ahh, simply remarkable.

"Ah, my… the perfect name. I'll refer to it as Pan, named after the Pan Flute for the humming it makes." I softly smiled as I flicked it into storage.

"An amazing name, my Lord!"

I held my hand out and shook her hand briefly, before slowly beginning to head out. "With this, I won't need to worry about anything… Thank you for your hard work, I shall see us victory with this spear."

"Glory!" The Automata saluted, and I saluted back as I headed out.

One last destination for today, the old base with that Dragon… my, I'm excited. I began doing my humble ritual, summoning Void Energy to delete the distance between me and my target destination.

It was a cold, empty space. Metal scrap and empty stars glittered in the no gravity environment of the abandoned space station. From my back, large wings spread out and kept me balanced in the void. Before me was a door, still sealed, leading into the abandoned building. Multiple other entrances revealed the dark interior of the base, but a slow hum worried me as I lifted my hand to the entrance.

Danger. A strong foe layed beyond this door, perhaps that Dragon laid just beyond the corridor that this led to. The interior was just large enough for an Ancient Dragon, perhaps even a Greatwyrm… fuck-! So exciting.

I can barely contain a grin asI clutched the frozen handle, pulling the door aside and looking deep in. Darkness, like an empty void, and yet… it was pulling me in. Strands of my hair floated in towards it, and I couldn't see anything with my eyes inwards.

A huge magical signature roared out from within, and with a flick of my finger… light sprang to illuminate the creature's great eye that stared directly at me.

"Hello." I smiled softly.

"...you." It growled. "How…"

I stood and waited for a minute. It seemed hesitant, as if waiting for me to answer its promptless question.

I sighed and pressed forward into the building, shuffling away to avoid me. "Typically, kneeling is the appropriate action to witnessing one's God in the flesh."

"What… unholy abomination are you-?!" It roared, backing away with fear and facing it's head towards me.

It was a Dragon alright, a massive one. It's type was neither Chromatic, Gemstone, or Metallic… no, this was… a Dragon born out of pure Stardust. It was colored gold and bright blue with a transparent, almost snow-globe like effect with bright stars bustling inside itself.

"I… am Avery Hall. What's your name-?" I continued walking forwards, threatening it's personal space with a smile. "I've never seen a dragon like you before… you certainly must be a new species-!"
