Chapter 9 - Chapter 10: Appearances

"Who's coming to the city, Allon?", asked Juno, a member of the Farz council that presides over the affairs of the city of Tyron. He almost interrupted the messenger, who stood in their midst informing them about the arrival of Jane who happens to be the secret daughter of their late chief, and that she is currently residing at an Inn in the capital.

"Allon, you are now dismissed so you can go ahead and leave us now for further deliberation", the leader of the council ordered immediately after Allon had finished delivering the message he had earlier been sent to sent to deliver to the council by Karz.

"I don't think bringing her back here would solve the problem that threatens the whole of Asteria because I don't believe she's strong and capable enough to lead our tribe to war against the dark sect", he said again removing a long strand of white hair on his pale red face and brushing aside with his red fingers that were skinny and sharp. He stood facing six other members, each having a guard behind them as they sat down looking at him. All seven members wore the same red cloak with a Cape at the back, which had a white insignia on the front of each cloak.

"Me neither, but I suggest we test her capabilities to see if she strong enough to carry out this great mission", another member named Wanad answered him,

"Yes you may be right, but remember that it's been a long time since the late chief sent her away to the human realm as a way of keeping her safe from the dark forces who sought to kill those destined to become the elite red warriors and ever since then, her siblings have ruled this city very badly to the point that it sparked of a rebellion few years back, which almost crippled the whole city not to mention the precious lives that were lost ", Juno answered him,

"So what exactly is your point, Juno?", retorted Eamus, another member who sat opposite at the left side, facing Wanad.

"My point is that they didn't rule according to the interest of the commoners but only for their own selfish gains because I believe that they didn't care about our customs and beliefs of the commoners, which they weren't interested in learning but were blinded with power, fame and riches. What I'm saying is that she may be no different from the others besides, she doesn't know anything about our customs here including how to rule the city and who knows maybe living in the human realm has bad influences on her because from what I heard about the humans, they're very ambitious and greedy to the extent that, they would even kill their own people to achieve their selfish desires", Juno boldly answered not minding the sensitive reaction of the other members,

Then a member who had been listening quietly and whose name was Samon, stood up to address the council members,

"My fellow members, allow me to remind you of the reason why we decided to send Karz to bring back the late chief's daughter to Tyron. The sole purpose of that decision, apart from her predestination to become a red wolf warrior, is to ensure that we enlightened and teach her to understand our customs on how things are done in Tyron for I believe she will obey because Karz told me that the foster parents that took care of her were a good couple so Juno, don't mislead us to believe that she would turn out to be like her siblings that ruled badly in the past if we give her the mantle to rule Tyron. What we should be talking about is how we can teach her our ways and..... ", Samon's speech was interrupted by a voice behind him just as he was about to end his monologue.

"And to do what exactly?", a voice daringly asked fearlessly which compel the council members to turn at once towards its direction, for they all wanted to see who disrupted and disrespected the councils prestige.

They saw Akanon, a rude fellow from the Mao clan that lives in the remote areas of Tyron and who happens to be the distant cousin of the late Queen that got married to one of Jane's sibling who was the fourth chief, after their father, to rule Tyron. The cloak he wore was made of wolfskin that covered most part of his red skin together with his inner grey garment made of animal skin, and a necklace with four white canine that was tied to it, dangled round his neck while his long black hair rested on his shoulders with two strands dangling loosely across his red face, just above his blue eyes situated close to his long nose.

His beard was twisted and woven together which rested upon his wolf cloak while two swords was behind his back. He had been sent away by the council members to live in the remote region of Tarnash, among the most wretched commoners who dwell in misery mixed with insufficient food to support their livelihood, that's was also threatened by mountain eaters who were called the Tarnites.

The Council had sent him there in order to forestall the passage rite of the throne to him which was later given to the last chief who died from an unknown plague that took the innocent lives of many especially the destitutes few years back. Ever since then, Akanon had been carefully hatching a plot to claim the seat of the chief and as well, planning to evade the watchful eyes of the council members, who were busy finding out ways to prevent another outbreak that would drastically cripple and reduce the population of the city, and secretly enter the capital without their knowledge in order to reclaim his position as the chief.

The Council members were stunned unable to speak, and were shocked to see him standing before them for they never thought he would be able to survive that wretched place not to mention coming back into the city and entering into the most guarded part of the building without being stopped or killed by the guards.

"Surprise to see me, huh?", he said smiling and then moved forward from where he stood, "After all the suffering and pain I felt during those years in Tarnash, living among those poor and wretched commoners who find it difficult to survive especially during the winter season, and who were too weak to stand against the blood thirsty flesh-eaters called the Tarnites while you live comfortably in luxury with warmth and shelter over your heads without caring about the destitutes especially those who are currently starving in Tarnash",

"You have no right to judge or condemn us and don't think we don't care for the needs of the commoners. It seems you have forgotten about the plague which nearly reduced our resources and population few years back. Since then, we've been working on diplomatic strategies with the other sects especially with the Agekians in Ataxia, to slowly gather necessary supplies which would be sufficient enough to help revive our food storage which has hit rock bottom ever since the plague, as well as medical supplies and other relief materials to help boost the low standard of living here in Tyron ", Eamus boldly retorted,

" That's not true at all! You are trying to cover up your selfish plans under the pretext of getting supplies for them. And of course what would you know? You all are too busy in this room for you to notice what really happening outside this building", he scoffed and said , "but I won't argue with you any further because that's not the real reason why I am here. I heard that my lost relative is back from the human realm in order to rule Tyron",

"That's not your concern, Akanon", Samon responded quite certain of the reason behind his sudden appearance at the council meeting,

"Yes, it concerns me because I'm the only rightful male heir still left to rule the city. Ever since I was unjustly banished to Tyron, I've been waiting for the day to return back to reclaim what it's rightfully mine and the perfect opportunity presented itself when the previous chief died without an heir", Akanon answered and walked towards Samon, staring at him face-to-face, "And this time, you won't get to decide who sits on that chair for I have come prepared to take it for myself". Then he turned towards the other council members and said, "As I am currently speaking to you, my battalions have already surrounded the city and are waiting for my order to enter the city forcely, so I suggest you better listen to my demands right now",

"How did you get an army? Did you ask for assistance from the other sects?", Juno inquired,

"No, I didn't get any help from other sects. Thanks to you, the army standing outside your gates is here to take over the city, since almost all of the warriors all came from that terrible place call Tarnash where you all sent me and somehow, I managed to gain their support after killing and taming many enormous Tarnites, that's now currently under our control ",

" Apart from informing us about your attack, why are you inside the city instead of fighting your way through, huh? ", Caston, another member asked him.

" Good question, Instead of unnecessary bloodshed, I decided to come here to bargain on terms concerning my relative and the fate of the city. What I want is that we'll have a fair duel to decide the who will be appointed the next chief of this city and since I haven't been able to locate her, I suggest you inform her about it since you all know where she is", He replied and then turned around to leave but Eamus abruptly stopped him from taking another step further,

"I know what you are trying to achieve here, you only want to win the hearts of the commoners in your scheming demand for a duel but I know who you are, you are still the rude and arrogant fellow who thinks only of his selfish interest in all aspects of life and this is the sole reason why we voted against you when the seat was empty, which mades us to banish you away to Tarnash", He said courageously without any sign of fear,

"You may be right, but I'm not living in that kind of way anymore, but I think it's rather fair for me to use all means possible in order to attain my goal relentlessly. And one more thing, do well to tell her that if she isn't going to duel with me, then the whole city will bear the consequences of her actions", He answered and walked past two guards that were lying unconscious on the ground close to the open door which he had left wide open the moment he came inside the chambers of the council.
