Chapter 18 - Chapter 8: Escape

At home, the two walked in and were immediately greeted by their mother, "Hi, you two, we have something to tell you." Surprised, the two brothers walked in and closed the door behind themselves. "We're home and okay." Said Satoshi as he took a seat next to his mother, and Akito stood still. "What is it, mom?" Said Akito nervously, scared that his parents might've found out about his powers. He slowly gulped his saliva. Akito, sweating, watched as his mother opened her mouth to speak. "Well, on a late notice from someone," she said as she glared at her husband. "We have an invitation from a major U.S. tech company to attend their annual tech show in Las Vegas, and we are leaving in the middle of the night." She smiled happily.

Unable to react to the news, Akito felt at ease and scared as it was the first time their parents had left the country. "Oh," he tried speaking until his brother cut him off. "Wow, awesome, how long are you guys planning to stay there?" Satoshi carried the conversation. Sharing all the information with their children, they seemed happy, smiling. They were indeed a complete family.

With his blanket wrapped around him and half-asleep, Akito said farewell to his parents and immediately headed to his bed. In the morning, wary as always, he inspected the surrounding areas for any wavelengths of negative emotions. "Nothing unusual." He said as he stretched and swept away the morning tears with his forearm. Then, he carried on with his morning routine.

Heading downstairs, he remembered that his parents had left off, which was the reason for the silence in the house. Akito headed up to his brother's room. He crept the door open only to hear. "Hey pig, I'm naked." Shouted Satoshi with a red face. Embarrassed, Akito stood there, staring at his junk. "Oi, you sure were brothers?" He said with a shocked look. "What do you mean? And quit staring!" screamed Satoshi as he warped the towel around himself. "I mean, you sure do have a long face, but you're really not packing down there." He said as he slowly closed the door. "Huh, it's just in its resting mode. Hey, I said quit staring." He shouted at his brother, who stood behind the door, speaking.

Walking in the park, Satoshi shared some of his ideas about Akito's abilities. Yet, Satoshi did not know much about Akito. For instance, Akito rarely speaks about his full powers and their effects. Furthermore, he never shares his thoughts and reasoning behind many of his actions and words. The things that he is particular about are the powers displayed by his brother in fights. "Oi, before we start running. What are your powers?" He asked.

Akito conflicted with his philosophies, prompting him to speak his mind. "I have these visions of me. Using them in fights that have never occurred. To me, it almost feels like I'm watching myself in a third-person view take on multiple opponents, and every spell and magical attack used, defined into sections, detailed, gives me strategies and unique ways to use them." Spouted Akito as he did his stretches. Touching his toes, he said, "I have a cool weapon. I saw something levitating with foreign embedded text in it and the blade listed under a mid-tier level artifact. I can summon it anytime with a hand seal that I watched myself create in one of those visions. The text revealed that these weapons remain in this dimensional room where time doesn't flow, bounded by a magical seal. It sits almost like a weapon prison." Intrigued, Satoshi stopped stretching and shouted, "show it to me!" Embarrassed, Akito stepped away from his brother. "S-show you what exactly?" He asked. He was conflicted about showing off and being secretive. Akito gave in to his brother's request and allowed a portion of his mana to flow and harness energy. Akito, performing a hand seal, activated a small portal to stretch. Reaching in, he grabbed the massive long-blade, The Blade of Dawn. Satoshi grew curious of his brother's blade, wanting to hold and wield the blade so severely, he negged at his younger brother until he gave in. "Fine, here," Said Akito as he handed the sword over to his brother.

"Oh, shi-" said Satoshi as the unexpected weight of the blade forced him to the ground. The Blade of Dawn came in a total weight of 7 kg. "It's heavy," he exclaimed in disappointment. "How do you carry it? What the hell?" Jealous, he asked his brother. "Do you have super strength too?" he questioned his brother as his brows drew in closer, frowning. Finally, Akito decided that he had enough of messing around. Thus he performed a reverse hand seal that summoned The Blade of Dawn back into its seal. "Not fair," shouted Satoshi as he got up. "Let's go, hurry." Said Akito as he started jogging.

On their run, Akito started sensing a sinister mana force. "NorthEast, about half-mile, huh?" Running, he looked over to his side. Staring at his brother, he said to himself. "Should I tell him, should I risk him getting injured for me?" Conflicted, he looked down to the ground and kept on running, not uttering a single word. "Ah, it's getting more intense." He said as his senses were overwhelmed by the malicious aura in the atmosphere. "Shit, this is not good, not good!" He screamed inside of his head.

Then, suddenly, the aura and the overwhelming, intense sinister mana started to vanish along slowly. "Huh? What happened?" He said to himself as he stopped in his tracks. "That dark aura just suddenly disappeared like that?" Akito asked himself as sweat dripped down his face. Scared, his brother finally caught his attention. Waving his hand in front of his face, Satoshi shouted into his brother's ear, "oi, what's wrong?" Shaken, he looked back to his brother and slowly whispered, "nothing, don't worry."

Finally, reaching the middle of the park, Akito decided to head to the bathhouse with his brother. "Hey, Satoshi, I have already seen enough." He said while trying to laugh. "Want to go to the bathhouse with me?" He said nervously to his brother. Then, anticipating that he would have his request rejected, he went over to the vending machine. He was craving soy milk. Satoshi finally answered his question and sighed before he spoke. "Yeah, why not."

When walking towards the bathhouse, every once in a while, Akito activated his magic abilities to allow mana to flow through his body, allowing him to sense them even further. Unfortunately, this also made him vulnerable which he forcibly deactivated his magic when he felt his aura leak out. "Let's hurry." He informed his brother in worry.

A figure stood on a tree branch near where the two walked by, unable to be detected by Akito. Finally, he raised his eyebrow and said to himself, "Why are you even trying?"

While walking, Akito became agitated by his current state and affairs, going as far as complaining inside of his head. "Why? Why do I have to lead a different life? I just want to be normal." He said to himself, slowly placing his hands into his pockets. As he scoffed, he heard a voice inside of his head, faint but unmistakable. It spoke. "Because you are Destruction." Akito became depressed from hearing that. Tilting his head down, the brothers walked into the bathhouse.

Satoshi came out of the dressing room to an already showering Akito in an empty bathhouse. With his towel wrapped around him, he said. "I'm ready!" In which the upset Akito stared at him and replied, "huh? I'm already done." Satoshi smiled, asserted. "Well, if you're done, you might as well wait for me in the dressing room." But his demand was met by his challenging little brother, "Nah, I'm going to soak up for a bit." He said with a sneaky peek. "Hey, quit staring!" shouted Satoshi as his towel fell off. "Oh," said Akito as his expression quickly changed while screaming, "Bro, how'd you get this?" While picking the towel from the ground, Satoshi roared at his brother to turn around, "never mind that, just face the other way!" Finally, seeing enough from each other, the brothers took a long soak together before heading home.

"Oi, what do you want to eat?" Yelled Satoshi as he unpacked a bag of groceries. "I don't want to eat at night." Screeched Akito from his room, reading a book. He seemed to be mesmerized. "Mmm, so according to this journal, Merlin was a weak chick?" Smiling, he said to himself, "I wonder if I can still summon her? Will she fight me?" He said as he thought about ways to fight her. However, unable to hear Akito's response from the kitchen, Satoshi made his way up to his brother's room, wearing his mother's apron. He asked him again. "Oi, I said, why don't you want to eat?" Looking up at his brother Akito burst into laughter. "What are you wearing?" He said as he started making fun of him, "you look like a housewife, bro. You should wear that in front of your girlfriend." Akito said as he stopped, looking at his sad brother he said. "What's wrong, dude?" Satoshi quietly whispered, "if you don't want to eat, then that's cool." He then closed the door and headed downstairs to eat by himself.

Akito was sinking into the darkness of his head from the overuse of his powers lately. The subconscious realm grew bigger and bigger, engulfing all of the physical worlds. He made an impact with solid ground. Questioning where he was and how he ended up there, he grew more confused about his own identity. "Where am I? Who am I?" He said while tears shimmered in his eyes. "Where is myself? Why do I feel so empty?" He shouted into the darkness, hoping to find an answer. He cried. "Please, answer me! Who is Akito?" He screamed into the distance again. Finally, a distant voice spoke. "You are Destruction."

Then another whispered, "You will grow wary of yourself when you lose everything." Then again, another voice spoke. "The man who once reunites with his former selves will destroy the world in the name of revenge." Then, the mighty voice roared, "my precious divine vessel. Surrender to my authority, and I will fix everything. You will no longer need to suffer." As the mighty God's eyes grew in size, he glared directly into Akito's empty self. Then, announcing his true intentions, "I will overtake the throne of God, and shelter all power in this world. For I am the true Blue Flame Master, the Symbol of Love." Expressionless Akito stood up and reached out his arm to the huge eyes and said, "your eyes," as a vision came to him, held by an arm, the same eyes stood looking at him, in front of him stood a man, full of love and happiness. "Who is he?" he said to himself as the subconscious world grew to an infinite size, then his body started falling again. "Akito, I'm s…" roared the mighty voice, until he watched Akito disappear from the realm and wake up in his natural body. "When you lose it all again, will you again embrace your true self?" Said the mighty voice in exhaustion.

Akito finally woke up in the real world, exhausted both physically and mentally, wondering about himself. Speaking to himself, he said, "what is this feeling?" He kept on wondering until his brother swung his door open. "Oi, we're late. Get up!" He said while holding a packed lunch in his hand. Akito was confused, but at the same time seeing his brother made him feel comfortable, almost reconnecting with his own personality. "Huh? Late for what?" He asked his brother as he stood up in bed. "For school, bro, dress already." Screamed Satoshi as they sped past one another. Satoshi ran over to his brother's closet, taking out his clothes. He set them on his bed and waited outside for his brother to finish up with his daily routines.
