Chapter Start!
"Yeah, whatever, just wipe those tears off." Liam shows a bit of an uncomfortable face.
"Okay, I will master Liam." Jasper wipes his eyes with his arms.
The two walk into the doorway to Liam's wing of the mansion. Lady Shiver is waiting by the stairs.
"I saw everything." Lady Shiver crosses her arms.
"Then do you have a problem with my new servant?" Liam looks nervous.
I can't lose such a valuable asset so soon. But then again I can't completely trust anyone. If she's the killer then I would have believed the acting. Wait. I didn't consider the fact that the killer... could be a reader of the novel as well. If they are, I'm in big trouble.
"I don't have a problem. My dear son, you can have as many servant boys as you wish." Lady Shiver laughs.
"Huh, why are you laughing?" Liam takes a step back.
She really is creepy for a woman that only enjoys spoiling her son.
"I wouldn't stop you from doing something like this. I saw everything I said. I just found it laughable that you would think that." Lady Shiver walks to the courtyard door."Goodnight, my son." Lady Shiver opens the door and walks out.
"She didn't even let me say it back." Liam looks over to Jasper.
Jasper is still bruised and cut up. I better send him off to a doctor or someone who can bandage him up.
"Jasper, do you know where a doctor can be found. Or at least some bandages?" Liam asks Jasper.
"Oh, those would be near the main wing. I don't need those though. I swear I'm fine." Jasper hides his scraped elbows behind his back.
"Stop lying. We're going to the main wing right now." Liam grabs Jasper's hand and starts matching off.
"Um, master Liam the main wing is the opposite way..." Jasper mumbles.
"I knew that." Jasper turns around.
The two are walking through a long hallway. They're all alone. It's early afternoon now, and Liam realizes his palms are sweating.
"Why is my hand sweating?" Liam looks down. "Ahh!" Liam lets go of Jasper's hand and blushes.
"Master Liam, you were holding onto it for so long that I just thought it was fine. I'm sorry if that was foolish of me." Jasper apologizes.
"What's with you? Jeez, it's my fault for not noticing. Just because you're a servant doesn't mean you have to apologize all the time." Liam walks faster.
"Oh." Jasper's face becomes red.
"What are you two doing?" A familiar voice says from behind the two boys.
Liam turns around and so does Jasper.
"Butler View! Oh, I was just looking for some bandages." Liam explains.
"Why do you need bandages?" Butler View looks at Liam's appearance not seeing any injuries.
"They are not for me but Jasper here." Liam gestures to Jasper.
"Jasper? Well anyway, master Liam you are to come with me." Butler View puts on a stern face.
"May I ask why?" Liam looks defensive.
"Your father wants to see you." Butler View answers.
"Then I can't refuse. I'm sorry Jasper but could you get those bandages on yourself?" Liam looks to Jasper.
"Yes, I can, master Liam. I'll head off then." Jasper walks ahead.
"Then shall we go?" Liam looks to Butler View.
Butler View seemed to be staring at Jasper for a second. His eyes quickly return to Liam.
"Ah yes, master Liam, follow me." Butler View leads Liam down some more halls.
They reach the door after some time.
So this is it, Liam's father. The one who deals with curses and causes Liam to be heartless. How does such an evil man look, I wonder?
The door creaks open with Butler View's push.
"Master Liam has arrived." Butler View steps to the side of the door.
Lord Shiver is sitting at his desk. His hair is sleek and black, his eyes are green like Liam's. His face has a stressed look on it. He notices Liam's gaze is on him.
Lord Shiver gestures for butler View to leave. Butler View closes the door and walks off.
"Liam, you know why you are here, correct?" Lord Shiver crosses his arms and looks Liam straight in the eyes.
Am I in trouble!? Did I do something wrong? Maybe this is about Jasper? No, butler View said he "had" been looking for me. So what did I do wrong? Was there anything like this in the novel? Ahhh, I can't refer back to the novel for information on events anymore.
"You are not Liam, are you?" Lord Shiver's eyes become cold.
"What!? No, I am Liam. Who else could I be in this body?" Liam panics.
"Stop lying. Your acting is horrible. I noticed your movements were different from my sons the moment you appeared in this room." Lord Shiver's eyes seem like they're digging into Liam's soul now.
"Ah..." Liam can't take it anymore and moves his eyes to the floor.
How? How was I figured out? If this was a test I've already failed. So what now? All I've got to gamble with is my life and knowledge of this novel's major events. I've interfered with the smaller events of Liam's personal life too much already.
"You've figured me out. I was hoping to last a bit longer." Liam confesses.
"Who are you?" Lord Shiver moves his hands to the sheath of his sword on his waist.
"Leah Goldman, I'm the one who's taken charge in this body as Liam, your son. Unfortunately for you, I'm not planning on dying anytime soon, so could you rest your hands?" Liam sights Lord Shiver's hand placement.
"How did you get into my son's body? How do I know you're not a threat?" Lord Shiver asks, tightening his grip on the sheath of his sword.
"I was murdered, killed by somebody I don't know. I'm looking for them here. They seem to be in another's body as well. A God chose this body for me to remain in. It's a chance at revenge and another life. I have no reason to harm you." Liam explains.
"So then, you are here for another chance at life?" Lord Shiver releases his grip.
"Yes, I am," Liam says.
"How do you know I'm not the killer? What makes you think I won't kill you here and now?" Lord Shiver asks.
"Well, that's because... You can't be the killer. You would have killed me on the spot upon hearing my story." Liam answers.
The two sit in silence. Their eyes now focused on each other. Liam, nervously hoping that Lord Shiver doesn't kill him. Lord Shiver, deciding what to do with the situation he has been presented with.
