Chapter Start!
After waiting a few minutes Jasper returns with books and a bag full of medical items. Jasper sets down the books next to Liam who is sitting on the bed. He begins applying water to cotton balls. Liam picks up a book and scrolls through it. Liam has a surprised face as he is looking through the books.
"Master, what is that look for?" Jasper notices Liam's face.
"Can you read?" Liam looks up from the book to Jasper.
I need to know this, just suppose maybe for a second he could read? Then what? Did he run away from his original family and end up here somehow? As a slave? That doesn't add up correctly. He would have tried to escape this place. If not that then… is he, my killer!?
"No of course I can't read!" Jasper laughs.
"But then how did you know which books to get?" Liam stares.
"In the library, I asked a maid who is sometimes there for help, she can read and helps slaves when they can't read something," Jasper explains. "She happened to be there and I got the books easily." Jasper leans to Liam's neck and taps the cotton ball on it.
"That all makes sense. But there's one thing that's off." Liam gets up and backs away from Jasper. "How do you know how to bandage things? Where did you receive such training if you were a slave?"
"Ah… that. That was dumb of me, wasn't it?" Jasper smiles then he sets down the cotton ball and sits on the bed.
"What do you mean?" Liam is confused.
I don't want Jasper to be the killer. I mean, if he is then what should I do, kill him? I don't think I could do that. I guess I'll just hear what he has to say first.
"I secretly studied medicine, I wanted to be a doctor." Jasper laughs. "You must be disappointed in me, I sneak to watch as the doctor would treat injured maids and butlers. I practiced in secret so nobody would know. But I guess my actions here exposed me." Jasper's eyes start to water.
"Hey, don't start to cry! I'm not gonna kill you for that or anything!" Liam feels bad.
"But I-, I did something a slave should have never done, I studied medicine!" Jasper has tears running down his face.
"There's nothing wrong with wanting to be something Jasper, I want you to know that. There's also no wrong in wanting to do good. I see that as a very great trait of yours." Liam walks over to Jasper and hugs him.
I kind of feel bad for suspecting him now, he just wanted to be a doctor! Then again, why would a slave want to be a doctor? Nevermind, I can think of dozens of reasons.
"I want to thank you, master Liam. You seem to have a kind heart. I've lived in this place for a while now, I used to think you were scary from afar, but I know now that you are a kind person being near you." Jasper wipes his tears as Liam sits next to him.
"Jasper, I have a question for you." Liam leans back into the bed's soft cushion.
"Ask away master Liam." Jasper looks back at Liam who is now making snow angels in the sheets.
"Would you like to be friends?" Liam asks as he leans back up.
"Friends?… Master Liam and I? Of course!" Jasper smiles and tears flow again.
"You're crying again, are you a leaky faucet or something?" Liam laughs.
"Leaky faucet?" Jasper suddenly is confused.
"Ah, just ignore that comment." Liam moves over to the books.
"Master I haven't finished cleaning that cut." Jasper realizes, rubbing his eyes.
"Oh, that's right! A little side note, can you stop calling me master? I know it's formal and all but it makes me a bit uncomfortable." Liam sees that Jasper looks sad. "Erm… You can call me a master around others, is that fine?" Jasper smiles.
"Then Liam, let me clean that cut now." Jasper leans to Liam.
Well, I didn't expect that. He sounds so direct when he removes the master, I kind of like that.
Liam and Jasper spend the rest of the day together, Liam studying manners and Jasper observing him. Eventually, night falls and Jasper leaves the room. Liam stood by the courtyard window. The night sky was sparkling with stars, and the moon illuminated the courtyard lightly.
"I have one more day, don't I?" Liam says to himself.
"Is that so?" A male-sounding voice says.
"Who's there?" Liam looks frantically around the room.
I don't recognize the voice of this person at all. Who would show up to Liam's room and hide like this? The security here should be enough for bandits. Do they have extremely good stealth skills? Then this person may be an issue. I can't let my guard down around here, can I? Sigh~
"You'll know who I am soon. Meet me in your study tomorrow morning, alone." The voice orders.
"I- I will be there." Liam stutters feeling attacked by the tone of voice.
"Good." The voice disappears.
Now I've got to meet this guy? Talking to me and not showing your face! This is starting to remind me of when I met that god who brought me here… Trial? Would that guy even come to this world? I would've recognized his voice though… You know what I'm going to sleep. I'm tired.
The sunshine leaks through the window and onto Liam's eyes. The light makes his eyes open slightly. Liam is sleeping sideways on the bed and falls to the floor.
"Ouch! The heck!?" Liam says angrily.
"Are you okay master Liam?" Jasper says as he walks through the door. Butler View is behind him.
I'm starting to hate mornings here.
"I'm fine." Liam gets off the floor with a grumpy face.
"Pardon me, master Liam but you are to go to the family room with us, Lord Shiver has asked that you be there." Butler View informs Liam with a gloomy look.
What's that look for? I have a bad feeling about this, I wonder how long this is going to take. I have to see who that person from last night wants too.
"I shall get dressed and be on my way there," Liam replies.
"Then, I will go tell Lord Shiver." Butler View exits the room.
"I'll be outside Liam." Jasper walks to the door slowly then stops, "You should be careful, I heard the Lord and Lady arguing." Jasper steps out and closes the door.
They were arguing? That would be normal if it were about Liam. Could it be? That's absurd he wouldn't have. The contract told me that I wasn't to meet anyone. Then why? What happened?
Liam has an upset look as he finishes his outfit and meets Jasper outside the door. Jasper sees this look and decides to comment.
"Liam, I understand your parents arguing may have upset you but this could be about something else, maybe even a good thing!" Jasper says that trying to get Liam's mind off of a negative track.
"I can only hope," Liam starts to walk off.
