Chapter 17 - The City of the Dead

When King Failer's courier delivered the message to Aace, he was shocked. He gathered the knights and told them, taking each Knight's advice and concern into account. Lord Knight Aace was an honorable man and thus he decided the Company would journey to The City of the Dead.

Aace had the knights gather as much information from the local people as they could. They were informed that the City of the Dead was much further north, high in the mountains. They gathered the supplies they would need, then they would be off to The City of the Dead.

Once they reached the City, the gates opened and hordes of undead rushed out to kill them.

"I expected the undead, but I did not expect them to attack before we did," Sir Steven shouted.

"Just kill them," Aace responded.

The knights battled through the city taking on the hordes of undead with courage and grace. Once they had defeated the undead, they explored the city. They found numerous amounts of gold, jewels and pottery, and then found an entrance into the dungeon. They entered the dungeon, fighting more unded, until they came to a room with a glowing red stone in the wall. Aace went over to the stone and read an inscription next to it: "Do not dare remove the Firestone unless the unifer be named."

Aace then took the Firestone from the wall. It shone with a fire-like brilliance and bonded with Aace. Then, a chamber opened up on the wall next to them. The Company entered, where they found the Feathered Dagger. It called to Aace, and when Aaced grabbed it, it bound itself to him, Aace not being able to rid himself of it.

The Company was weary of what Aace had taken, but they had talked amongst themselves and decided that Aace should challenge King Failer.

Sir Peter then proclaimed, "Lord Knight, I believe that it is you who should rule the kingdom. The nature of Failer's letter suggests that this was a suicide mission to take you out. Only a coward would do that, and you're no coward. You are the Lord Knight of the Knight's Company, and I pledge my sword to you, my King."

The rest of the Company did the same, and Aace agreed. They left The City of the Dead with their sights set on Lion's Point where Aace would challenge King Failer for the Kingdom.
