Chapter 18 - Challenger, Unifier

The Company was riding towards Lion's Point when Sir Peter began a conversation with Aace.

"Do you think we will be able to beat Failer? He is considered one of the greatest swordsmen to have ever lived. He had been compared to the likes of King Washington, King Mao, King Bonaparte, King Cromwell, and even Titus the Resolver. What if we fail?"

"Have faith, Peter. We will be able to take on Failer. I know it. The people support me for king, even within his own court. We will win."

The Company arrived at Lion's Point at midday. They walked towards the keep's courtyard with applause and shouts from the people: "All hail Aace the Wolf!"

When the Company reached the courtyard, the army blocked the exits. King Failer stood on a balcony above them.

"Surrender the Kingdom, Failer. The people support me, even men in your very court. Surrender so we can have peace."

"I'll never give the kingdom to you. Men, kill them!"

Aace and the Company were then rushed by the soldiers. The Company was far better than the common soldiers and had no trouble cutting through them. King Failer then came out to the courtyard, sword drawn. He wielded the Lion's Sword, a particularly long saber with a lion's head on the pommel. Sir Peter and Aace began to fight Failer, trading blows as if they were fighting as one against an unbeatable enemy. Failer then dodged one of Aace's attacks, and took his opportunity and thrust his saber through Sir Peter's chest. Overwhelmed with grief, Aace attacked Failer with a furious passion, striking as if he was trying to take Failer's head clean off. But Failer was the better swordsman,  parrying Aace's attack downwards and stabbing him through the heart.

Aace dropped to the ground, and the people stopped cheering.

"I told you I would never give you the Kingdom. You are hereby accused of treason and will die where you kneel."

Aace then grabbed Failer's shoulder and pulled him down, causing Failer's sword to go all the way through him. As Aace brought Failer down, he thrust his blade through Failed chest and said, "I am the king now."

Aace then rose, pulling out the Lion's Sword and absorbing Failer's knowledge. His wound immediately healed, and in his anger, Aace decapitated Failer. He was then overtaken by the idea to forge Failer's sword into his own. He forced the swords together, releasing a bright wave of light. Once the people could see again, The Wolf sword and Lion Sword where as one, the pommel had both the Wolf and Lion heads. The people and knights knelt, giving their respects to Sir Peter the Compassionate, then an elder of the city proclaimed: "All hail King Aace the Unifer!"

The people and knights responded in kind and Aace took the throne. He decided that he would live among the people, with his wife and child in Rodnest.
