H-how? How did he do that, how? I am amazed by what I saw. Vander just pierced a kuishinbo, not just pierced, but he blew them into pieces. The moment he swung his sword, it released a powerful shockwave causing the kuishinbo to explode up to its core. The surrounding was damaged as well.
What's more shocking is that he did that unconsciously. Amazingly, how is it possible, a necroless guy swung a lightborn that caused a massive shockwave. He didn't even flinch or experienced a recoil as well.
"Leon, did you see that?"
Leon didn't even bother to answer my question. He just ignored me as he concentrated on the situation.
"I think I have an idea what just happened, though it's just a theory, it's reasonable," Leon said out of nowhere.
"What is it?"
"Hmm, the lightborn that Vander picked is from Regetta, one of the strongest charlander we put in the training."
"So?"
"Lightborn are swords that are designed to detect the necros of its owner. Is there any reborn before who has no necro like Vander?"
I'm trying to remember but, "No."
"Which means, lightborns are designed to respond only to those who have necros but not to those who have none. This means that maybe, the lightborn just recalled the necro of its past owner; that's why it glowed, and the power that was released when Vander swung his sword came from the stored necro power inside the lightborn. The numbers rolled but went crazy as well because it detected another person but it wasn't able to detect any necro."
"That could be right. After all, we weren't able to take into account in creating things in this world those who lack necro since initially, we thought it's impossible."
"Yep, that's right."
"Amazing deductions Leon, that was quite on the spot."
"Well, we're still not sure, so let's keep on observing."
I just smiled and continued watching on the screen.
*Vander's POV*
I thought I died, but no, the instant I opened my eyes, I noticed my hands piercing a dark thing. I felt a weight was being carried by my right shoulder.
'A kuishinbo? How?'
"H-how is that possible?" I was appalled by what happened. That's just amazing.
"Nice hit, young man!" Kisona seems to be surprised as well.
"I thought you're weak. Perhaps you're not," Lucia said as she smiled and grabbed my shoulder to settle me up.
I was worried and surprised too, but I was just lucky. That shockwave was not from me but from the sword.
Wait, sword?
"You're pretty much amazing. Your strategy is on the spot. How did you do that? You're not a charlander, but you seem pretty calm in front of such adversity." Kisona said as he ambles due to some injuries.
"I also wondered about that and that lightborn you're holding. Can I take a look?" Lucia gestured her hand to grab the sword from me.
"Here." I gave her my sword as I follow Kisona and Lucia who was walking.
"Where did you get this?" Lucia asked.
"Oh, I just picked that thing up along the way when I was following you."
"But why are the numbers in a weird arrangement? Who could be the past owner of this sword?" Lucia said as she leaned on Kisona, asking for his opinion.
"Let me see," Kisona replied. He grabbed the sword and narrowed his eyes as if he was observing the blade.
"There's a fist mark on it, same as ours Lucia, I think the previous owner of this word is on the same faction as us."
"Faction?"
"Yes, faction, you see there are three factions in charlanders squad. The battle faction, strategy faction, and defense faction. Their names are pretty much explicit already, so I guess I don't have to explain their roles, right?"
"Right."
"Well, the sword you picked came from a member of the battle squad, just like us."
"Was the previous owner already dead?"
"Yes, since a lightborn will never acknowledge a new owner if the real owner is still alive," He said as he continued walking, following the trails from where we came before. "Vander, perhaps are you a third type reborn?" He spouted out of nowhere.
"Yes?"
"Oh, as much as I figured. The shockwave your sword released earlier is not normal. You must have massive amounts of necro in you." Kisona exclaimed.
"Actually, it's the opposite. Many say that I don't have any necro in me." I said as I drooped in shame.
"Then how are you able to release such a tremendous force from the sword that you really didn't have to slice the kuishinbo, you made it explode along with its core, that's not an easy feat, and besides, you need to have lots of necros to be able to do that."
"I don't know either, but they said that I am necroless so, maybe I just got lucky?" I exclaimed because I am too is surprised by what happened.
"No, no, don't say that. Someone can't be reborn without that." Kisona said as he was trying to ease me and reassure me.
"Well, it's quite confusing too, since the necro count here in this sword is showing weird numbers with series of zeroes and dots," Lucia said as we kept on walking while both of them are helping me evade debris that is flying from anywhere. "Let's talk about that later. We're about to reach the camp."
***
"So this guy, this weak-looking guy helped the two of you?" An old man scoffed as he shakes his head in disbelief that a guy like me saved the two of them.
"Yep, that's true. He may not be as strong as us, but he is smart, and that alone is a huge help." Kisona claimed.
Right now, we are in a small camp inside of a slightly damaged building. The tents seem to be made up of ashes that guard them against kuishinbos. Some guards remain on standby. They voluntarily offered to guard the surroundings as we conduct our little gathering.
"That is quite true, then maybe we can actually ask him for help when things go rough, eh?" The old man said as he smiled at me. I smiled back at him just to be friendly. He seems to be jolly and kind. "By the way, my name is Marx, you are?"
"Rik Van Der Werf, you can just call me Vander."
"Nice to meet you, Vander."
Kisona raised his hand, "Kisona"
"Lucia."
The others introduced themselves as well, and I just smiled back at them. After a few introductions, we had fun for a bit, and they said that we will be leaving this camp tomorrow. If we leave the camp tomorrow, wouldn't this mean that I wouldn't have anything to do? Since I'm pretty sure the base is a safe place.
After we celebrate our survival against the first wave of kuishinbo, we've been informed that the next wave is expected to be on next week and that we have to prepare. Of course, I won't be there since my training is just for three days, but I listened very carefully to learn.
Hugo is speaking in front, in my guess, I think he is the captain of this team.
Hugo raised his champagne, "I would like to congratulate you for surviving the first wave." We did the same thing and shouted to raise up our spirits even more.
"We, the soldiers of Clild Yard District, have proven our strength. Despite the higher government not supporting us, we remain strong and courageous! We should be proud of ourselves!"
Ah, it must be the issue that Sylve mention earlier.
"What does he mean?" I asked Kisona.
"Oh, you don't know? The higher government is no longer paying attention to the Lumiere city, since out of the seven cities, Lumiere has suffered the most among all. Most of the districts are now already ghost districts."
What? It's different from what Sylve told me, wait, it was fifty years ago so maybe they don't know the real reason behind.
Well, I should pretend to not know a thing to learn more. "Why is that?"
"Well, Lumiere City is no longer of use to them. The government only cares about profit. They abandoned us and everything. The resources, weapons, foods, and all that we are using are what we have left. Sooner or later, we are gonna run out of them."
"Then, basically, you guys are just fighting for your survival. You don't want to die without putting up a fight, right?"
"Right"
"I'm curious, what does the higher government look like?"
Kisona started to explain.
"I don't know much, but the King of the earth or the Vasilia, Reeve Giraudus, is the supreme ruler. He is the one who gave the earth, the humans, in particular, a chance to live." He claimed. "He is believed to be the strongest reborn to ever exist. He's been living for thousands of years already."
"Under the Vasilia is the ministers, they are the official decision-makers for the whole world, they make laws, orders, they are also the advisers of the Vasilia. Next to them are the councils. Different councils manage a specific department such as military, finance, hunters, defence, and research."
"So basically, it is the council that left you guys out?"
"Yep, that would be true."
"Those things I've mentioned made up the higher government, next to them is the lower government which follows the same hierarchy, but the head of each city are referred to as 'Mayor' instead of vasilia or king."
I didn't notice it but, Hugo's speech took a while and after that, he informed us about our leave tomorrow and that we should prepare early.
After my conversation with Kisona, I realized that if necros and skills are not enough to reach the top, what can I do? I don't have necro I don't have the power to do anything at all. Should I quit on my goal? Should I stop aiming at being powerful?
The people here are different, without power you can't do anything, no, in fact even if you do have power, if it isn't enough, you're just trash.
In this case, what can I do?
What should I do?
