"Grin! Grin!! Grin!!!...Leave the dorms now!"
I woke up and looking at my watch it was exactly 5:30am. I wondered how i was actually going to survive in the school since i hadn't really been sleeping lately. I took my bucket, inner wear and uniform and ran to the nearest bathroom and as usual it was filled up, quickly searching the entire junior hostels, i managed to find a tiny spot in one of the bathrooms. I took a quick bath, dressed up and ran to the school chapel with everyone else.
Rev. Fr. Jovitus, the school chaplain was a very lively, intelligent and jovial priest. He won the hearts of most of the students and even the Rev. Sisters
"I want you all especially the new students to read hard and always remember to pray because that simple act of prayer goes a long way in helping your life".
I listened carefully to all the priest had to say taking notes of important verses and quotes knowing that this was one way i could start afresh. After the mass i went with the rest of my classmates to have my breakfast. I decided to have a stroll and become familiar with the school surroundings, it was the least i could do since we hadn't been allocated chores yet.
Getting towards the senior dorm i saw her, the pretty girl i had seen yesterday. She was talking and laughing with some students. I wanted to speak to her but i wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. After what seemed like an endless standing and staring session i decided to make my move since i noticed she was now alone.
"Good morning Senior...em... i'm sorry I didn't get your name yesterday during the orientation".
"Just call me senior Sylvia, what is your name? were you at the programme yesterday? why didn't i see you there?"
"Wow! so many questions! Well.... i.. uh... I actually.... ummm... I dozed off and didn't really know when you started speaking but I know you are the sanitation prefect though" i said embarrassment threatening to destroy the little courage i had left."
"You are really funny you know, you haven't even spent more than two days here yet you are already dozing off..." she laughed (at least someone could find my struggles funny because i definitely didn't) "i wonder what your fate will be when school actually begins in earnest...anyways you haven't told me your name yet".
"Oh so you remembered" i thought.
"Alexandra Sparks" i replied nervously
" Sparks! that's a pretty name for a very pretty girl".
I tried hopelessly to hide the shade of red that was growing on my cheeks
"You should come and see me in my dorm sometime" she continued "then we would be able to talk more. Just ask for St.Theresa's dorm, the last corner is mine...so should i be expecting you?" she asked.
just then the bell rang and all the students started running towards the hall for the second orientation programme.
"I'll definitely come but i have to get going now...bye senior Sylvia" i answered as i hurried into the hall.
Throughout the orientation, i kept replaying my short conversation with Sylvia, she was really beautiful, funny, and friendly i presumed due to the number of people that were with her before i spoke to her and i liked her. I knew i said i was going to take a break from any ships due to my messy breakup with my friend Lucy but as insane as it sounds i had faith in Sylvia and i felt that this would really be a great year for me after all.
