"Good evening senior". I heard everyone say before i woke up from my sleep. It was too late to stand up because they were now seated.
"what is wrong with me" i thought. "I really have to stop this sleeping. It's getting too much" i muttered trying to straighten the book i had slept on.
I didn't even care to look at the senior we greeted because lately a lot and i mean a whole lot of seniors had been visiting our class searching for who or what i will never know. I just took it to be another random person.
"Who is Susan Ifeanacho?" I heard the senior ask.
"wait a minute, i know that voice" i said looking up. "Whoa! She actually came" i said smiling from where i was seated at the middle of the class.
" Here i am senior" Locker girl said as she stood up obviously suprised. She continued scanning the classroom and sensing that she was probably searching for me i signalled her to where i was seated. She nodded .
"Susan and Lexa i want you two to follow me as i leave your class"
"Yes senior" we both said simultaneously as we locked our lockers and followed her.
We went all the way to the new school building. We kept walking until we got to an empty classroom on the third floor . There was only a chair there and nothing else. I guess the management hadn't decided what to do with the empty space yet. She sat on the only available chair while we just stood in front of her like her subjects.
"Susan" she said solemnly "You and Lexa had an argument concerning a locker position in class right?"
"yes senior" she answered quietly. I could sense she was frightened.
"Now" she continued "I know fully well that you secured that spot last session and honestly you deserve to be in that spot, but did you ever consider the fact that Lexa is just a fresher who has an eye defect and had no idea that the spot was taken before putting her locker there?"
"Em... Er... No senior I didn't" she replied feeling a little bit guilty.
"Any reasonable person would have at least helped her to find another spot or better still you should have secured another spot for yourself which isn't so hard since you are a staylite, but you simply chose to move her locker all the way to the back. What if she had reported the case to a Sister? Do you think the Sister would be on your side? " she asked.
"No" she frowned "...but senior she didn't make it any easier for me. She was just shouting and claiming rights to the spot and in my defence i didn't know she had an eye defect. She never told me."
"Wasn't she wearing her glasses?. I could already sense the irritation in her voice.
"Erm.. Yes she was but i thought it wasn't medicated" she shrugged.
"I see... you thought it wasn't medicated." she said with a hint of sarcasm. "So let's cut to the chase shall we? Now you know she has an eye defect, you would have to move from that position to her position in the middle and let her stay there. Is that clear?
"...but senior i...." she protested but was cut short almost immediately.
"No buts... i will come again to check if she is in the front and if she isn't... you already know what i can do. You are dismissed." she waved at her.
"Yes senior" she muttered and walked out angrily.
Throughout the whole event i had been standing there looking like a lamb whose price was being bargained. I hadn't said a single word.
"Lexa!...Lexa!...Alexa!" she shouted.
"Ye...yes...se... senior" I said as i regained consciousness. I had zoned off without realising it.
"What have you been thinking about? You didn't even utter a single word throughout plus i had to call you thrice before you answered? "
"I'm sorry...i zoned off for a min there. Thank you for helping me Sylvia. I already thought you forgot".
"So you already lost faith in me right? " she asked pretending to be hurt by my words.
"No! How can?" I asked sarcastically.
"Your Locker friend is quite stubborn i must say...very persistent girl".
"When persistence collides with desperate the result would be catastrophic"
She burst out into laughter "Where did you get those whack lines? Your past school?
Now really thinking of what i had said i joined in the laughter too "Hey! it's not so bad."
"Yeah right." she rolled her eyes."You know, what gets me everytime is that serious look you put on when you say something funny, like you don't know it's funny...that's even more hilarious."
"Well...take it as my appreciation for helping me today, though i don't precisely know what look you are talking about"
"Oh you would have to do better than a joke to thank me". she came closer to me putting on a more serious look.
"What am i supposed to do" i asked nervously.
She thought for a while "Well..., presently i can't think of anything but let's just say you owe me one."
"Okay i just hope it isn't difficult ".
"Trust me dear... you won't have a problem doing it" she whispered into my ears.
"Oh...Okay" i gulped nervously and looked up at her. I could see the smirk forming on her lips like she knew exactly what she was doing.
I have to get going now...got a locker to move" I managed to say avoiding eye contact and headed to class when i stopped abruptly "That reminds me, you said you had something to discuss with me?".
"Oh...that's true... but i have a tutorial class now. We'll talk during the social night this Saturday.
"Okay then... till saturday" .
We walked together to the old school building and parted ways heading to our respective classes.
