Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Erin's POV

I pulled on some skinny jeans and a baggy tee when I got out of the shower after brushing my teeth and doing my morning rituals. I slipped on my black baseball boots and made my way to the bathroom to fix my hair. My reflection stared at me from the small mirror that hung in my bathroom. My natural red hair _ that I surprisingly inherited from my grandmother ; my dad's mother _ was held up in a bun to prevent it from getting wet from my shower. My emerald green eyes ,the only feature I inherited from my father, looked bright except for the bags underneath which were a tell tale sign of how little sleep I had due to the fact that I stayed up late to finish my assignments. The skin on my face looked fresh and spotless and I always wondered why since I used no special products.

With as sigh ,I brushed the stray hairs and pulled on my brown wig which I had been wearing for years now. It still amazed my how far I had come without being caught. In the beginning, I had thought that I was going to forget one day and blow my cover but apparently ,I was more conscious than I thought. Up until I moved here seven years ago ,I never had any friends. I always felt that people naturally didn't like me and I didn't care, I had accepted it. I was only interested in getting my parents to like me .

I was ready to be a loner like I had been in my former school but by some stroke of luck, I met people who liked me and wanted to be friends with me and I wanted to do everything possible to keep my friends but I had already broken the friendship code by keeping this huge secret away from them. I didn't even want to think of how betrayed and hurt they'd feel if they ever found out. I hated the fact that I couldn't be who I really was and couldn't tell me friends either. But having as past like mine and a target on your back doesn't really give you a choice . Sometimes I feared that my aunt and I would be found . With her getting drunk on a daily basis ,I feared that she could one day spill everything . I was just thankful that even in her drunken stupors ,she still managed to keep that tacky blonde wig on her head.

After finishing up in the bathroom I hurried downstairs . Luckily , there were still some fruits in the fruits bowl . I picked up an Apple and munched on it as I walked to school .It was just a few blocks from my house to school so I preferred to walk though sometimes my friends picked me up or dropped my off. At first they had felt bad about me walking all by myself to school but I assured them that it was fine. I liked to walked. As soon as the school came into view I slipped on my fake glasses and fixed my wig . This was going to be a long day.

After a completely exhausting day with just the right amount of stupidity from Nicole and her minions, school ended and Maddox dropped me home. He was going to come by later. The annual sports tournament was coming up in a few weeks and they had started practice. I wasn't worried about him getting into trouble with his coach for being late to practice .Since he was captain, he had an advantage.

After saying goodbye, I headed up to the house . Judging from the fact that it was still locked _ aunt Delia a habit of keeping the doors unlocked whenever she was around_ I knew that aunt Delia wasn't back. To be honest ,I wasn't afraid. This wasn't the first time she has disappeared to wherever and this wasn't even the longest. She had been gone for a month and a half before and during that time ,I had thought that she had abandoned me or had been caught by who we were running from then I remembered that she was even more afraid of being caught than me because she had an issue with him. Though I only had vague details of what she did .

I dropped on my bed and let out an exhausted sigh

I pulled out my laptop from under my pillow , I had no idea why I kept it there and logged into my account to start work.

I worked for a Chinese novel app and had been working since I was dismissed from the coffee shop I worked previously when I was 15. The area in which the coffee shop was belonged to someone else and he had come to claim it.

I had seen an ad on the internet when I was in the library and had quickly applied. I was picked a few days after that .

My work basically entailed editing and reviewing the works of authors and upcoming writers.

The pay was just enough to pay the bills and put food in the table. I was lucky to be on a scholarship. I realized that aunt Delia was spending the money the lawyers gave to her after the death of my parents so I applied because I knew a time would come when there would be no money and true to my words , the money had disappeared.

I got ready for bed after having dinner. Maddox came over after practice with Jake and Cole even though he wanted to come alone . Alley's mom had caught the flu so she had to be home to take care of her brother .

They brought Chinese take out . Who didn't live Chinese ?

After eating and joking around, I basically had to chase them out since their lazy selves refused to move.

I drifted off to sleep the moment my head touched my pillow .
