Erin's POV
It had been two weeks since my little encounter with Nicole and up until a few days ago, all she did was glare at me whenever we met but now ,she sent me a smirk whenever our eyes met .Almost as if she knew something I didn't. Like now, we were having lunch at our usual table in the cafeteria when Nicole and her minions strutted by. She had a smirk on her face directed at me when she passed by
Well whatever .
I wasn't going to waste my time to figure out whatever was going on with queen dumb.
Lessons seemed to move fast today
May be it was because it was because it was getting closer to the sports tournament . A week and some days_ four to be exact_ and today , they were going to play a trial match.
The purpose of this was to ensure that each player was at his full capacity.
Since we had the same lesson, Alley and I walked to the field right after putting our stuff in our lockers.
Even though this wasn't the tournament, there were still more than half of the school's population out here.
The boys were already warming up for the upcoming game.
Alley and I walked over to them .
As usual, we were going to be their water girls.
It's seemed that Cole and Maddox were on the same team _and red team while Jake was on the black team . They had been divided into two teams since they were basically going to play against each other. Each team was wearing one of the school's colours.
"Hey guys " Alley and I fist bumped the guys .
"Looking extra cute today Rin", Jake teased
" Shut up" I retorted
Maddox just stayed silent, while Cole and Alley were whispering to each other .I wonder what that was about .
Khalin ,a player on the team called for Jake. He sent me a wink and a teasing smirk before he left. With the way Jake behaved , I used to think that he was a bully and liked to make fun of others ; especially me , but I realized he was the type of person that liked to teased and be loved like a sister .
I pulled Maddox to the side.
"Are you alright ?.You've been acting a little off", and that's was the truth. Maddox had starting acting off a few days ago . I originally thought it had to do with the upcoming tournament but that was just wrong because Maddox was never anxious or weird whenever there was an upcoming tournament .If anything ,he was always brimming with enthusiasm and excitement. Something was bothering my best friend and I was going to find out. What friend would I be if I didn't ?
"I'm fine Run "
"No you're not. Talk to me Mad. I'm your best friend " I pleaded softly ." You know I don't like it
when you're sad
He let out a sigh and run his hand through his thick hair .
"Seriously I'm fine. Just a little stressed and tired that's all".
I knew that wasn't it but I had to let it go.
A whistle was blown and all the players had to assemble .With a kiss to my check, Maddox walked away and joined the others.
"Soo ..... Did he day what was wrong with him ?" Alley asked.
" No, he didn't .He said he was fine but we know that's a lie " . I wasn't the only one who had noticed Maddox's off behaviour. Alley had too .The only ones who seemed oblivious or maybe they weren't were the boys.
" Don't worry babe ,if he says it's nothing then it's probably nothing"
'Okay ", I sighed
We stood by the side-lines, prepared to hand over water bottles to the players when they got thirsty.It was going to be a 90 minutes game with a half time.
Few minutes into the game ,I noticed Nicole and her friends on the other side of the court with a huge
cooler by their side . What were they up to ? I asked myself .
My question was answered when during a foul , one of the players headed over to them an was handed a bottle of energy drink. It looked like it was one of those energy and glucose juices that the players were familiar with .
Now why in the world would Nicole buy energy drinks for the team. Not that the team couldn't afford it but this wasn't a match day .It was just trials and not that she couldn't afford it she could but she never bothered with the team before . So why now ?
Whenever there was foul or a break and the players wanted to head over to our side for water ,Nicole practically forced the juice on them.
Why was she suddenly doing this ? I watched as all the players headed over to her side . It was half time now .
Maddox was heading over to our side when Nicole run in front of him. How she was able to do that in those killer heels were beyond me . She was dressed like a diva as always ;black flared mini skirt ,a tight hot pink crop top and those heels. Her golden blonde hair was down in large ringlets.
I watched was she offered Maddox a bottle .He accepted and while he was drinking Nicole chatted him up . She held his arm as she dragged him to her side where most of the boys were .For some reason, I felt a burn in my chest while I watched them . It was a really uncomfortable feeling and even when I averted my eyes, I could still feel it .
I tried so hard to put a name to what I was feeling but I couldn't or maybe I could but what I came up was just too absurd.
Immediately the game ended, I told Alley I wasn't feeling too well and headed home.
I needed space to understand why I was feeling jealous. This wasn't the first time I was seeing Nicole with Maddox so why was this time different ?
Why was I feeling like this ?
