It was already past six in the evening, and I had done nothing much throughout the whole day. I called Miles to see if he's still at school or whether he went home. Once I knew that he was already heading home, I also thought of heading home for the day. I headed over to the parking lot, when I was again reminded of the person that stole my spot. I went to the place the car was parked at when I heard someone call my name.
"Miss Zara, Good evening" I turned around to see who it was, and it was the new designer, Adrian.
"Good evening." I said when he continued with his next question.
"Are you heading home?" He asked. Where else would I be going I said inside my head and just nodded and smiled at him. That's when I noticed that he was the person who had stolen my parking spot. He was right there standing in front of the place.
"Is that your car?" I asked as I looked at a white Yaris.
"Oh, yeah." he replied and waited for me to say something back.
"Just that, I've been parking there always and today I realized somebody had already parked there. That's why." I said.
"Oh, here?. I'm so sorry. I didn't know."
"It's fine. It's not like it's even my own spot. Just that I'm used to parking there. That's all." I said and turned around to get into my car.
"Still. I'm sorry."
"Oh, no no. It's totally fine. You don't need to worry." I smiled. "Well then, see you later." I said as I got in my car.
"See you tomorrow. Have a nice day." I heard him say.
I just drove pass him. I didn't know if he was trying to act friendly or whether he was just trying to make ties just so he could enjoy a beneficial work life here at work. However, I wasn't the person to be really fond of this new intern. I wonder how long he will stay here.
...
"I'm home." I said as I enter. Marta comes running over to grab my bag and coat.
"Good evening, ma'am." She says.
"Good evening Marta, Is Miles home?" I asked her.
"Yes, ma'am. He's upstairs."
"Did he already have dinner?"
"No, he said he's gonna wait for you." I just smiled when I heard this. I went over to the staircase and called Miles.
"Hey, mom." He said as he came down.
"Hey, you didn't have dinner?."
"No, not yet."
"Waited for me?"
"Yeah, Is dad coming?"
"He said he will join us for dinner, but I'm not sure."
"Are we going to wait for him?"
"Well, It's fine. You can just go ahead and have dinner. I'll wait for him." I told him as I took my phone to see if Dave is going to be late.
"I'll also just wait." Miles say. "I actually have some homework I need some help with, mom.". Miles had the habit of asking for help with his school work from me since he was little. He was close with me and would even talk with me when he had any sort of trouble. I loved how he continued to be close with me. It was so rare for a kid of his age, specially being a boy that is through his adolescent.
"Sure, what do you need help with?" I ask as I keep away my phone to listen to him.
"It's for my writing class, I need to complete some essays."
"Okay. Give me some time, I need to take a shower. I'll be right back." I say as I head over to the master bedroom.
...
Even in the shower I wonder of what my next work should be. It keeps bothering me that I haven't been working properly for some time. I can't force myself either but waiting for something to pop up in my head is not working either.
Once I'm done showering I head over to the living room. Miles is already at the dining table with some books.
"Mom, dad's on his way." He says as he sees me.
"Oh, really. That's great then."
"Mr. Dave told me to prepare some broccoli salad for dinner." Marta says as she overhears our conversation.
"Oh, yeah. He told me he wanted some. It's great now that he's going to join dinner." I say in reply. "Marta, is the food ready?"
"Yes, ma'am. I will just warm it when Mr. Dave is here."
"Okay then." I say as I go sit down to help Miles.
I help him with his work for more than a half an hour, when we hear a car pulling in through the gate.
"Marta, can you go see if it's Dave and help him." I ask her when Marta hurries off to.
Miles sit back on his chair and stretches, "Now, I'm hungry." he says which makes me smile.
"I'm back." Dave shouts as he came in.
"Hi, dad." Miles say.
"Hey buddy." Dave shouts back. "You guys had dinner?" He asks.
"Not yet, we waited for you." as I stand up I say.
"Let me wash quick I'll be right back." He says as he rushes off to the room. I follow him.
"How was the meeting?"
"He's actually very talented. I saw his work and loved it. No wonder he's been a hot topic these days." he said all excited.
"So, are you going to sign him up?"
"I'm still in the process of thinking."
"But, if he's talented what's the problem?"
"The problem is its business than talent. Fame can fade and so does talent if he can't continue with it. I need to see if he's really worth it. Otherwise, I'm just letting him into a subsection under us." He said.
"Okay, just take a relaxing bath and hurry up. Miles is waiting, and he said he's hungry."
He just nodded and went into to take a wash.
His words were true. Talent even fades sometimes and there's nothing an artist can do at those times. And without talent fame fades anyways bringing nothing but an end to the whole career. But for those who live from their passion it's more than that. It's more like losing the colours of their souls, leaving the empty shell with nothing but useless empty years to live until they die. Why did his words remind me of myself. Was my passion coming to an end too.
