Chapter 1 - The Beginning

Ella laid on the flat hospital bed, alone. It was late at night and there was no sound. The only light was the moonlight creeping in from the window and shining near her room. Ella always had poor health, however, it had gotten to the point where her life expectancy was getting involved and she had to relocate to a hospital.

Funny enough, she got amnesia a few days ago when she lost her footing and hit her head, so she doesn't even remember why she was sent to the hospital. The only people familiar to her is her mother and the doctors and nurses. She stared at the ceiling in silence, unable to sleep.

The warm sheets made her drowsy but her mind was wide awake. Why wasn't she sleeping? It was 1 in the morning and she needed most of her energy yet she is using it all up in one night. Was it because she wanted to die sooner rather than later? Or was it because she was afraid that if she closed her eyes she would never open them again? It was hard for anyone to tell as her expression was always hard to read.

As you could hear the ticking of the clock and the minutes turned into seconds a faint light caught Ella's eyes. It glared at her from the corner of her eye. She peeked over and saw that it was coming from behind a curtain. She moved to the side of the bed so that she was sitting at the edge. Her legs trembling from the weight of her body, she slowly and carefully walked towards the light.

In a way, she wasn't scared. She felt like she had nothing to live for anyway so what was the point in fearing the unknown now. She crept up to the curtain and slowly moved it so that she could see what was emitting the mysterious ray. As soon as the curtains were out of the way she saw a pair of misty black eyes staring right back at her. It was a boy. He seemed like the age of 12, with scruffy brown hair and pale skin. For a few minutes, they didn't say anything, they just stared at each other in total silence.

As if to break time the boy broke contact and stood up from where he was sitting.

"For a second there I was convinced that you could see me." He muttered with a voice full of disappointment. Ella kept her gaze on him as if mesmerized by the intense light he emitted. He wore a white shirt and pale blue jeans, nothing more. He stepped forward as if he was floating and went closer to Ella.

Seeing how close the boy was approaching, his bright light in contrast to her pitch black room almost made her eyes water. She instinctively closed her eyes tight. The next moment she felt pressure being forced through the front of her body and moved to the back. Her heart accelerated from the shock and she immediately opened her eyes. She looked around but didn't see the boy anymore.

She restlessly turned around to find the boy behind her. He moved closer to the opened window, Ella immediately moved. Even though she didn't know who he was, even though she didn't know what he was doing there, she couldn't let someone commit suicide right in front of her. She dashed towards him, reached out to grab him before he left.

"Wait!" Ella exclaimed reaching for his arm to pull him back. However, to her surprise, her hand went straight through his. Her momentum didn't cease as she crashed straight into the wall.
