Chapter 3 - Two

Beth hops out of the car as soon as I pull into the activity zone car park. Our school uses the sports centre for swimming and gymnastics and stuff, mainly for when they just need extra space for lessons. I remember when I was in year 7 and we had an introduction disco, there was a stage in the centre of the room that included a challenge.

If you got up and danced on that stage then you would win 10 points for your house. Though the teachers made it as a joke, they surely underestimated our competitiveness, once one of us was up, the rest weren't far behind.

There were fond memories of this school but I don't think I'll miss it too much. Besides, more than half my year has left for college or work, maybe we'll do some kind of reunion in 30 years. I had grown up with these people and no matter how much I loathed them they will always be a major piece of who I am. I had never fallen in love or dated for that matter but it would be hard to forget everyone.

I told Beth how to find her room then headed to the sixth form area. She had told me her teacher was miss Deans, she had taught me history in years 7,9 and 10. A short lady, 5'2 maybe but not the worst, Beth will be fine with her.

*buzz "Shit" I just got a message from Izzy. 'pick me up' I had only just got that . Still looking at my phone, someone called "KAI!". I looked up, it was Izzy.

"Where were you!?" She scream asked. Laughing "I only just got your text" Pulling her into a hug. "You must have sent it while I was in the car". "Well I'll send it the night before then". I threw my arm over her shoulder and we started walking over to the entrance of the sixth form area.

Izzy wasn't the easiest friend, no matter how much I loved her. Sometimes we would have ridiculous fights and not talk to each other for weeks until actually sorting the problem. The last one was because I sat with someone else in class, which seriously pissed her off.

It wasn't that I didn't want to sit next to her, there was just one of my other friends I wanted to talk to. Besides, she sits with other her other friends way more often than me, not that I did it to get back at her.

She was one of the popular girls. Never alone, wearing puffer jackets, perfect eyeliner and nike airforce ones. I've had my encounters with her friends, surprisingly not bad ones. I'm a popular loner, everyone knows who I am because of Izzy, but if I decided to walk up and start a conversation they would took at me like I was a maniac.

Izzy was my best friend, though she does come with her unique struggles, there was not much I wouldn't't do for her.

We get into the common room and we split off. I see Leah, my only other in school friend. We're not very close but i don't know what I would do without her, specifically who I would eat lunch with. There was six of us up to year 11, the rest of them all went to do their A levels somewhere else, now it's just us.

I think I prefer it with just two, there's no drama or anxiety like there used to be. I just found it too much even with the little things such as walking down the corridors, especially with 6 of us. Most time I would just give up and walk ahead.

"How was St Petersburg?" Leah asked. "Surprisingly boring actually". Dad dragged us to Russia for two weeks during the summer holidays, originally me and Beth were allowed to stay home alone, but he wanted all of us to come and learn the family business. And yes, that's illegal weapons trade, though Beth just went shopping with some friends.

"Boring?" She continued. I think everyone kinda knows what my family does but no one has ever directly asked me about it, not even Izzy. Sometimes I hear people talking if I'm sitting near them or in class, it doesn't bother me because I'm not ashamed of it. Then again it could be the reason on my lack of social bubble.

"Right everyone!" Begins our head of year Mr Loveday, we all turn. "Firstly, welcome back to another treasured year at Gilson school, I'm going to hand out your timetables then you can go back to talking until first period."

I turn back to Leah. "What about you? Holidays?" I ask

➰➰

It's my free period and the end of the day. There's still an hour until Beth's day is over so I decided to get my homework done in the library. There's almost no one in here. Looking around there is exactly three people including the librarian.

I'm scanning the room until.

I see him.
