Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

He sat on the other side of the church in a different little room with a different stain glass window. His tie was loosened as he leaned back on the leather couch. He stared at the man on the other side of the room. He really hated this guy, he thought. He decided that, if the man wasn't his father he would have knocked his teeth in for ruining his life. He didn't want to get married, he enjoyed his bachelor lifestyle. He was used to having a different girl every day of the week and even though being married probably wouldn't stop him from playing, it would make it harder.

"Son, would you sit up and fix your tie." The old man scolded his son.

"Why, it's not like I want to be here, why should I act like I do?"

"To make a good first impression," his father growled back, "this wedding is very important to our family and I am not going to have you fuck it up, you hear me?!"

It was his favorite game to see how quick he could make his dad angry. His father had a nasty temper and was generally regarded as someone that you wouldn't cross. But that's what you get when you are a ruthless mafia boss, everyone is scared of you.

"Luca, look at me," his father asked, but he decided he would look anywhere else than at his father.

"Luca, must you be so disobedient! You are 31 get a grip!" His father's outburst made Luca laugh. He may be 31, but he had about as much freedom as a 10 year old. Between his father and his father's men, he couldn't make a move without it being scrutinized. Now he had one more person to add to it, a nagging wife.

Luca ran his hands through his dark brown hair. It was styled nice for the wedding but he just messed that up, oh well, he thought, just another thing for him to yell at.

There was a knock on the door, but it wasn't time to start, who could possibly want to talk to him right now. His father opened the door, to be faced with an angry man who looked like he could kill them both. Luca smirked thinking about how the man would cowar when he realized who he was dealing with, but to his surprise he didn't. The man even looked his father in the eye, this was going to be a good show for Luca to watch.

Then cleared his throat, "Excuse me, Mr. Mazzanti, I'm Leon, Alessandra's eldest brother." Luca looked the guy up and down. So his bride's brother was challenging his father, did he have a death wish? Luca scoffed, causing Leon's gaze to turn to him. If Luca's father would have been normal, he would have been terrified of the guy. Unlike Leon, His father wasn't very tall or imposing, he used his temper to scare people.

"What do you want," His father seemed to be getting irritated with the audacity this guy had.

"Since my father is not here, my brother Marco and I will be walking Alessandra down the aisle and giving her away. I was wondering if I would be able to speak with your son before we continue." Leon looked back at his father.

This guy sure has a lot of balls, Luca thought. He wanted to see just how far this guy would take it before his father had his men beat him to an inch of his life so before his father could say anything, Luca said, "Sure come on in, after all, we are about to be family." A smile spread across his face when he saw Leon tense up at the word family. It was obvious he didn't want his sister to go through with this. Even though his father had a temper, Luca was more dangerous, being brought up in this life you start to enjoy the little things, like causing people pain. It made you feel powerful. Luca learned all he knew from his father, but Luca was more approachable making it easier to trap people in his wrath.

Leon slid past his father so that he could face Luca. Luca noticed that he was married and he wondered if this family had a habit of marrying each other off to forgive debts. Leon seemed to completely ignore the fact that one of the most powerful crime bosses was standing in the room as he tried to talk to Luca.

"Listen, I get this whole thing is over a debt and we have already tried to get Alessandra out of it. But she should not be punished for another person's mistake and if you force her to do this, you will be destroying the future she has. She is a smart girl, she graduated high school early at the top of her class. She busted her ass to get herself to college, and with one semester to graduate, you are keeping her from the thing she wants most. I am more happy to pay off the debt with however much interest you want, if it means my sister can go free."

Luca was taken back by Leon. His family would kill for each other if their name had been insulted, but never would they put themselves in danger just to stand up for them for no reason. It almost made him feel bad that his father was going to have men beat him up.

"Young man, your sister agreed to the terms when we had this discussion with the lawyer," Luca could hear his father choking back his anger, this wedding must have been more important than he thought.

"My sister agreed to nothing. You threatened her family what was she supposed to do, let you kill them! They did nothing wrong and neither did she." So his sister is the same way, Luca thought.

"To bad, son," Luca's father placed his hand on Leon's shoulder but Leon shoved it off. "The contract was signed, there is no getting out of it, and this marriage is going to happen." His father said through gritted teeth.

Leon sighed in defeat before speaking again, "In that case," Leon moved closer so that Luca could have counted the freckles on his face, "If so much as a hair on my sister's head is out of place, if she ever cries, is neglected or abused I will kill everyone you have ever loved even if it kills me." Leon stood back up and started to walk out of the room. Before he left, he said without turning around, "you should get up there. There is one thing you're going to learn, and that is my sister is never late and anything she is ever apart of will be on time." With that he slammed the door shut after him.

Luca and his father looked at each other. No one has ever spoken to them with such disregard for their own life before, it was almost admirable.
