Around 11pm, Luca went over to the table that was now surrounded by Alessandra's family. Alessandra sat close to the middle of the group holding Lottie on her lap. Around her sat her brothers, starting with Antonio and Dani on either side of her. Her two uncles were also there as well a few other men who were black suits and kept a serious expression on their face. The rest of the table was laughing loudly at a joke someone told but the men in black suits only broke into a small smile.
"What is it Dom, not gonna laugh, oh wait I forgot your face might break if you do." Antonio teased one of the men.
"Better watch it kid," the one who must have been Dom answered.
"Watcha gonna do, Dom." Antonio teased some more, before Alessandra cut in.
"Ton, stop, leave him alone." She placed a hand on her brother's arm.
"Dom why don't you go home, I'm sure Lacie is missing you." Alessandra turned her attention back to Dom. With that Dom looked at her uncles who gave a slight nod in approval before heading out.
Luca cleared his throat and stood awkwardly at the head of the table.
"What is it," Antonio asked, irritated that his good time was interrupted.
"I was just coming to tell Alessandra that we better get going if we want to make our plane." Antonio stood up and puffed out his chest a little. It was like be was challenging Luca to take Alessandra. However, Alessandra quickly grabbed Antonio's arm and yanked him back into his seat before standing up. Once she stood up all the other men at the table did as well, with the exception of Antonio who was pouting from getting his ego hurt by his little sister.
Leon walked with Alessandra and Luca to the front of the hotel where a car was waiting for them.
"I had Antonio pack a few extra bags for you so that you would have everything you would need. By the time you get back, your stuff should be at the Mazzanti mansion for you to go through, I'll make sure it gets there myself." He stopped and placed his hands on Alessandra's shoulders before pulling her into a hug, "Take care kid. Let me know when you get where you are going. I love you." He whispered so just the two of them could hear. When he released her he gave a deathly glare to Luca. Only Luca and Leon knew what that look meant. Leon was warning him that he would make good on his promise should something happen to his sister.
Luca opened the passenger side door for Alessandra before climbing into the driver's side. Alessandra relaxed as she felt the soft leather from the seats touch her skin. This car was as luxurious as it gets. The windows were tinted so that no one could see in them. The exterior was a sleek black that had just been washed and waxed for the big day. On the inside the seats were made of a dark brown, almost reddish leather that were soft to the touch. The dash was filled with all the latest technology and accessories. As Luca drove he kept one hand on the wheel and the other resting on the center console. He looked very comfortable behind the steering wheel and Alessandra couldn't help but wonder if this was his personal car. No one could be this comfortable in a car they didn't drive regularly, he knew all the controls like the back of his hand. Could it be that the infamous Luca Mazzanti didn't use a driver like everyone in their lifestyle?
Alessandra felt her eyes get heavy as Luca weaved in and out of the late night traffic towards the airport. She tried to keep her eyes open but with every passing headlight it became more apparent that she had gotten up at 5am to get ready for the wedding. Her protests didn't work and by the time they reached the airport she was soundly sleeping.
Luca quietly got out of the car, not wanting to wake up the girl in the front seat. He whispered orders to the guys who were waiting there, telling him where to put the bags and warning them to not wake her up. After they left silently to get their things, Luca started going over the flight schedule with the pilot that was standing near by. Once everything was sorted, he went back to the car and opened the passenger side door expecting to find Alessandra asleep before. But when he opened the door she was not in the car.
He closed the door in a fit of rage. It has been less than 24 hours and she had already run away. He has tried everything to be nice to her because of the way her brothers treated her there was no way she could be a bad person. He started yelling at the men coming off the plane to find the runaway. However, the men didn't have to do much work, once they move aside Alessandra was quietly standing behind them with tiredness still in her eyes.
"Could you please not yell, I have a headache." Alessandra complained pinching the bridge of her nose. Luca subconsciously breathed a sigh relief before lowering his voice.
"I'm sorry, I thought you were sleeping so when I opened the car door and you weren't there-"
"You assumed I ran off." Alessandra cut in. "Mr. Mazzanti, you can call me many things, but I am not a coward. Besides why would I wait until after we are legally married to run away? That makes absolutely no sense. These guys woke me up when they opened the truck to get the bags. One of my bags has something special in there and I wanted to make sure I knew where it was, not that I need to explain myself to you."
Luca was shocked by her irritated voice and the words, "not that I need to explain myself to you." No one has ever spoken to him like that, and his anger returned once again. He was ready to yell at her when he realized that she was probably only acting this way because of her head. She was still rubbing the spot between her eyes. He tried to swallow his anger before walking towards the plane. With every step he could see that she was clearly in a lot a pain.
"Are you okay" he asked cautiously as he saw her begin to waiver in her position.
"Yes, I'm fine, I just need to lie down." Alessandra turned to go up the plane, but lost her balance and slipped. Luca caught her just before her head hit the metal stairs.
"I'm sorry, I lost my balance, I'm okay now." Alessandra tried to pull from his grasp, but he wouldn't let her go. He could clearly see that she was disoriented. He order the men to go get the pilot, as he picked her up bridal style and carried her up the stairs.
He sat her in one of the comfy chairs closest to the window, just as the pilot came over with a small medical bag.
"Mrs. Mazzanti, are you alright?" He asked opening the bag and pulling out a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and a pen light.
"Are you a doctor?" was all Alessandra was able to get out looking confused at the pilot.
"No ma'am, but I am a former medic of the air force. Can you tell me what's wrong." The pilot put the blood pressure cuff on her arm and it began to retract.
"I'm fine, it's just a headache. The bag I wanted to make sure I knew where it was, can I have it? It has my medicine in it."
"What medicine, Mrs. Mazzanti" the pilot asked while unzipping the carryon.
"There's two. One is an iron vitamin and the other is an aspirin."
"Did you have anything to drink?" the pilot asked before giving her the pills. When she shook her head no, he gave her the pills along with a little cup of water.
"I'll be fine, I promise, sometimes I just get a little dizzy, especially if I don't eat a whole lot. I just need to sleep it off, don't worry, I'm okay to fly." She tried to reassure the pilot. After seeing her blood pressure was a little low, he determined her story was accurate and asked the stewardess to bring a high carb meal for her to eat before going to sleep.
"Thank you," Alessandra's said to both the pilot and the stewardess before they left her with Luca. Alessandra was too disoriented to realize that Luca was pacing back and forth behind her chair worried about what happened to her. One minute she was fine and then the next she was almost unconscious on the runway. That's when he remembered she didn't eat the reception. She was too busy with her siblings to eat the food placed before her and when she got back to her seat it was already gone and it was time to cut the cake.
A little bit later, the stewardess brought out food for Alessandra to eat before the plane took off. There was some rice and a slice of a roast as well as a green beans and a biscuit. The stewardess also brought her a Coke to help her headache.
Alessandra devoured her food in record time. It was like she didn't even notice that Luca was sitting on the couch watching her intently. She only took a few sips from her coke before opening her carryon and pulling out a sleeping mask and a blanket. It was then that she noticed someone was staring at her.
"I hope you don't mind. I usually get pretty tired after an episode like that. I should be fine once I wake up, I promise." Alessandra reassured him. Once he nodded for her to continue she slipped the eye mask on and curled up in the blanket. They didn't even get to take off before she was sound asleep.
