Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A Warrior's Death

2057

The sun was slowly setting when the hunter approached his prey. Over the years he had fought this man countless times and finally he was about to finish him. As he walked closer, he slowly transformed back from his demonic form, his tail and horns growing back, his eyes slowly losing their red color. Even though he was about to kill his enemy, the victory left a bitter taste in his mouth, watching two of his brothers and his sister also walk towards the man. It took three of the calamities to defeat one mere human.

"Stay away from him, he's mine!"

The man heard him and laughed, his laughter slowly turning into coughing. Blood was flowing out of his mouth. He was leaning against a tree and despite his smashed body he still wore that smug grin he always wore when they fought.

"Hey Zartar.. do me a favor and step aside.. I'd like to watch the sunset.. one last time", he said as he took a cigarette out of his pocket with his right hand. His hand was shaking, not because he was afraid, Zartar knew that this man was not afraid of what was coming. The wounds he had suffered from Zartar and his brothers were the cause of his shaking.

"Do you really wish for your last moments to be like this? Petty remarks and insults, hm? You know, now's your last chance to say something grand and meaningful. Imagine it, the famous Havoc Demonsbane, the king of swords, delivering a final speech before dying by my hands. Not that there's many humans left who would ever be able to hear it, but I'll make sure that every member of our demon race hears it. Although we will probably all laugh about it, while we spit on your grave", Zartar mocked him, while lighting Havoc's cigarette.

"Well.. I'm sure most of your race will never forget me.. tell me.. how many of you have nightmares.. because of me?", Havoc said, coughing up more blood.

"You piece of sh-"

"Enough!", a deep voice stopped Zartar.

His brother Belial, pressing his hand on his destroyed left eye, slowly came closer to the dying man. The wound was a final gift from fighting Havoc. Zartar looked at his brothers, all of them had received wounds from their fight. The only one unscathed was his sister Lillith, who had not fought but stood aside and watched them. She was in her human form, a small woman with short blonde hair and green eyes, slowly kneeling next to Havoc. Her white dress soaking up Havoc's blood. The contrast between the man and his sister made him laugh.

Havoc was an old man, around the age of sixty, but still looking strong. Around 1.90m tall and muscular, with a grey beard and long grey hair. Now he was broken, broken like his legs, which were shattered by Belial. Like his left arm, which was smashed by Azmodeus.

"My poor Havoc. Please stop this madness and give in. This is the last chance I'm giving you, I want you by my side. Join me, I'm begging you!", Lillith spoke, slowly caressing Havoc's face.

Her concerned face worried Zartar. He knew his sister was fond of this mere human, if he agreed she would turn him into a demon, but he knew this man wouldn't give in. Lots of men would, but not Havoc.

"Get out of my face bitch.. I already told you.. where you can stick your offer.."

Havoc laughed again.

"I knew you'd say this. What a waste."

"Tell me one thing, who do you hate more? Me for killing you in a few moments, your celestials for not helping your race, or yourself, for not being able to keep your promise? Oh, are you surprised? I remember the promise you gave your orc friend. I swear I'll kill him, I will not stop until I have his head hahaha!Did you really think you could do it? Did you really think you and your bunch of clowns could defeat us? You should have picked the name Joker instead of Havoc, it suits you better because you are a joke."

Havoc's reaction made Zartar laugh. For a second his face lost the smug expression. Mentioning his friend Karghan, the orc he had killed seven years ago, was causing Havoc to react.

"Fuck the celestials and fuck you.. I'm tired of listening to the bastard that had to bring two more calamities to kill one old man..If you're not gonna do it..", Havoc said and spat a huge amount of blood in Zartar's face.

Zartar wiped the blood out of his eyes. He felt angry, his hands slowly shaking.

"You bastard, I was going to give you a quick and clean death but now.. No way, I'll have some fun with you as long as I can!"

Havoc looked into his eyes, smiling, more and more blood coming out of his mouth. His breathing slowed down and he closed his eyes.

"Feeling tired? Let me help you with that, I'll just-"

As Zartar reached for his throat, Lillith grabbed his arm.

"It's over, he's dead."

What are you talking about? His wounds aren't deadly, his body should have lasted a bit longer!"

Lillith carefully wiped some of the blood from the corner of Havoc's mouth and kissed his cheek. She turned to Zartar and looked at him, with tears in her eyes.

"He bled to death while you were talking. He bit his own tongue.."
